I think the theme that runs through this whole drama is, "What is a true adult?" "What is it that people behave like people?" "In what only sense does it mean to love, or does it have a wide variety of meanings? The care of family, the friendship between coworkers, help someone, are these not love? or Only love between the opposite sex?" After watching this drama, I realized that these days people forgot do something what they deserve as a person. "Forgetting how to be happy, forgetting how to admit others, forgetting to help each other and live." When this drama aired, it was a deep dark time that was like death to me. So I started going back to volunteering that I had quit, and tried to learn how to love me. I still don't know how to love myself, still this is hard to me. But this drama taught me that there are so many different kind of meanings and love in life. Whether the love of the main characters was love as an adult man and woman, or a different meaning, is what each of we felt. I don't think we need to argue about this. That's not the theme of this drama. The theme of this drama is "value as a person". So like everyone else, this drama is the one of best dramas of my life. And of course, of course, I enjoyed your review very much and sometimes seriously and in tears. ))))
My Mister is such a special drama that can make you reflect on and appreciate your own life. Jian's growth is another aspect I enjoy tremendously - going from a survivor who has shut her heart, to a fully functional individual, both emotionally and as a member of the society. In that aspect, there is another drama that gave me the similar thrill - Good Doctor.
Funny enough, Before My Mister existed, Misaeng was actually one of IU's personal favorite dramas. She recommended it publicly on a couple of occasions.
Very funny, because Misaeng was good....Only good, not great, for quite a long list of reasons. Just my honest opinion. Still one that should be watched, especially for young folks, Middle School and High School.
Reply 1988 is very very much like my mister in core concepts. Its about life, growing up, family, and romance. It gave me the same feelings that i got when watching My mister, but actually even more feeling than my mister, which is an amazing show. I highly recommend you watch reply 1988!
I gave up on Reply after ~ 4 episodes. Bored me to tears. While My Mister was riveting from the first second. Just a comment on how people can be so different in their tastes, yet sometimes still find common ground.
i think reply 1988 is pretty similar to my mister!!!! like the other reply series, they put an effort to emphasize little details or simple gestures that actually leave big impacts when we do stop to notice them. the sibling dynamics, community solidarity, all those filial themes. the only thing different is that there isn't a central conflict, but a lot of the dialogue in my mister is reminiscent to that of reply 1988's. they're not grand displays of anything, just stories of real-life experiences that anyone can relate to.
I literally stumbled into watching My Mister after reading the summary in Netflix. And I literally binged it and was obsessed 😅! It was so interesting b/c of all many plot lines and the MORALITY aspect!! So many gut wrenching human emotions captured in this series! I cried SOOOOoo much 😆!! I mean it was such a combo of great actors AND STORY!! ♥️♥️♥️
I'd recommend watching "in the mood for love" by Wong Kar wai, or a German film called "The lives of others"..I feel they were influences for my mister! Alternatively watch my mister again...it gets better every time! 👍😉

I have watched My Mister, Something in the Rain and Mother. They are all wonderful shows that still sit heavily in my mind and heart, especially My Mister and Mother. Mother was such an intense and genuine show; I really cried over it and would recommend it to everyone who would also enjoy the complexity and emotion behind the show. Also, it’s nice to hear someone talk about it; I haven’t heard or met anyone whose watched it so this is makes me very happy!

I haven't watched My Mister but by the way you portrayed it, it reminded me of a south korean movie from 2012 which is called 'Eungyo' (A Muse) with the actress from Goblin. Please watch it. It is mesmerizing piece of art. As far as the k-dramas, I was last blown away by Itaewon Class.

No..both deals with different themes..My Mister focuses on the platonic love between the leads..Eungyo portrays passionate feelings of the male lead well.
@@hamishirin to me it wasn't clear if the male lead had romantic interest in the young girl. His feelings were genuine but I think this also was a platonic love from his side.

Its impossible to put a label on feelings..what i tried to say was the protagonist of Eungyo loved the girl..after all what he tried to recover might be his own long lost youthfulness..his imagining being intimate with her and writing about her were all might be manifestations of his own passion..I won't say that was lust or something bad..but when I watched My Mister I got a different vibe..of two aching souls healing themselves in each other's friendship..For me that was more of a platonic love.. but now that i think abt there are similarities too..sorry for the long reply and feel free to correct me if I am wrong somewhere😊

"Something In The Rain" is great...another great relationship drama is "Encounter". I also loved "Mr. Sunshine" as a great drama.

사실 '미생'이나 '비밀의 숲', '응답하라 시리즈', '슬기로운 시리즈', '멜로가 체질', 'SKY 캐슬', '품위있는 그녀' 같은 드라마는 각국의 현실에서는 그 드라마 속 세계관이나 유머에 대해 깊은 이해가 힘들 수 있고, '미스터 션샤인'이나 '킹덤' 등은 완전한 한국 드라마 방식이라고 보기 힘든 부분이 분명 있습니다.
그렇지만, 그 속에서도 한국 드라마에서만 찾을 수 있는 무언가들은 있기에, 조금의 공부를 곁들인다면 더욱 괜찮을 것입니다.
조금 지난 작품들을 찾으신다면,
한국 가족 사회에 대한 이해를 높일 수 있는 '넝쿨째 굴러온 당신', '디어 마이 프렌드' 등이나 한국 퓨전 사극들인 '뿌리 깊은 나무', '추노' 등을 추천 드립니다.
어렵고 문학적인 작품으로는 '붉은 달 푸른 해'를 추천드리지만, 주변 한국분 혹은 블로그 설명이나 해석같은 것의 도움을 받으시길 바랍니다.

I haven't watched My Mister but by the way you portrayed it, it reminded me of a south korean movie from 2012 which is called 'Eungyo' (A Muse) with the actress from Goblin. Please watch it. It is mesmerizing piece of art. As far as the k-dramas, I was last blown away by Itaewon Class.

@@이시진-s2s I don't think it is. It's a very poetic and touching movie in my opinion. Just because it has one sex scene, doesn't make it a porn or anything negative.
No..both deals with different themes..My Mister focuses on the platonic love between the leads..Eungyo portrays passionate feelings of the male lead well.
@@hamishirin to me it wasn't clear if the male lead had romantic interest in the young girl. His feelings were genuine but I think this also was a platonic love from his side.

Its impossible to put a label on feelings..what i tried to say was the protagonist of Eungyo loved the girl..after all what he tried to recover might be his own long lost youthfulness..his imagining being intimate with her and writing about her were all might be manifestations of his own passion..I won't say that was lust or something bad..but when I watched My Mister I got a different vibe..of two aching souls healing themselves in each other's friendship..For me that was more of a platonic love.. but now that i think abt there are similarities too..sorry for the long reply and feel free to correct me if I am wrong somewhere😊
