Not true, he could have been added as a Mii costume before the Ballot even started. If he and his team see the high requests for him (which are all over the world, btw), I'm sure he would add him.

It pretty much is one already, just not in the traditional sense. It has a nice story and likable characters, that's all you really need in a Role-playing game. It's like Legend of Zelda but with platforming. I think adding way more items, characters, choices, story, and dialogue to make the game feel deeper with a richer storyline would make a great sequel. Remove the platforming gameplay and it just wouldn't be Shovel Knight anymore, though. That has to stay.
thegreatestpepe ... shovel knight is an action platformer. In no way is the story in depth enough to call it an RPG, nor does it really have any of the traditional RPG elements at all. That's like calling the new Call of Duty an RPG because it has a decent story. there's no correlation, man.
Nedoxu . Is there any difference between Shovel Knight and LoZ other than the viewing angle? LoZ is an RPG, right? They both have items, progression, memorable characters with personality, dialogue, towns, optional side quests, and so on. CoD doesn't really have any of that other than a story and characters, and CoD characters are HARDLY memorable. I've played most of them and I don't recall a SINGLE character's name other than the dude named "Mason".

RPG items are like "a better sword" or etc... and no I wouldn't count the master sword. Don't get me wrong, I love both Zelda and Shovel Knight. I just wouldn't ever qualify them as RPGs. without referring to JRPGs, you have games like Dead Island. That's an RPG, because of all the items and the leveling up and the skill system
Nedoxu . You don't need the depth of story to call anything an RPG. Vast majority of JRPGs are a proof of that, with story much more function than form. However, the thing that makes a notable difference between RPGs and cames that use RPG elements is the amount of dialogue as compared to other game genres. You cannot make an RPG that's light on dialogue, however RPGs that are, are usually called ActionRPGs. Secret of Mana is a very good example of this. The gameplay could be anything from platformer (Legend of Zelda 2), to first person shooter (Fallout 3 & New Vegas), and it wouldn't disqualify it from being an RPG.

I came to a *ridiculous* realization about Shovel Knight when I was thinking about how the game canon fit together (as I tend to do with games). Not only was Shovel Knight the best without half of the team he'd based his entire fighting style around, he was the best when he hadn't even practiced during the entire rise of civilization. In the opening of the game it mentions that the lands were untamed when last he went adventuring, which means *all of civilization* emerged between when he quit adventuring and the games opening. Imagine trying to enter a partners competition without the person you'd spent all of your time working with. Now imagine trying to do it from memory when you hadn't done the routine in 80 years at least. Now imagine that it's life or death fighting, under conditions that you don't know about coming in. Under those conditions, Shovel Knight was *still* the best. I think he might be one of the most badass heroes to ever come out of gaming. Like, seriously.
***** Actually, Shovels are quire effective weapons. Look up the 'Monk's Crescent Spade', or just look at the design. With a sharpened edge, they can bludgeon pierce and slash. They're entirely effective.

There are many indie games with those old-school graphics that are simply lazy, they use 8-bit graphics as a excuse to not work hard on the presentation and make cheap assets, and the rest of the game, like the gameplay and level design, is not good either, and also, these retro games don't actually look retro, it's a mix of stuff uglier than the actual 80s and 90s games, and stuff that older consoles don't have the power to run, the game doesn't feel nostalgic at all, overall, these games don't have the same care and effort that classic games had, these games are not a homage to the classics, they are a disgrace to the classics. But Shovel Knight, is not one of these, this is a NES-style game that is worthy of the NES classics, if they released that game in 1989, Shovel Knight would stand as one of the greatest videogames of that era.
Like seriously guys, the epicness level of this has gone far higher than Skyrims soundtrack, and it can beat any soundtrack of today. The entire game is a piece of art, gameplay, mechanics, replay ability, I never in my life played such a beautiful game, this ranks top in my "best games" list followed by The last of us and BioShock 1.

that INTRO
it's like when you're eating a good dinner, at first you taste what will come, and afterwards you get all the good stuff.
This game single-handedly DUG a grave for crappy AAA games.
Especially The Witcher games 😏😏😏
Thank you, Jake Kaufman, for your excellent composure. I love this soundtrack...

It would be possible to run Shovel Knight on a NES either way?
No, it could not run on an NES, but perhaps an SNES
It definitely looks like a NES game but I doubt it could be playable in one
@@daridon2483 It might be with the right MMC.

I have no words.
I still have no words
I like how this music can be considered as official theme song of Shovel Knight and Black Knight
good old days. now i remember to my old famicom gaming times :)
Distruct10 Well said :)
October I just stated that this game is my favorite alongside my other 2 favorite games, dude, it's called an opinion, ever heardof one? I love those BioSHock and TLOU because they are both very import milestones in the gaming industry.
October They're completely different games, it's stupid to compare them.
Might as well compare Duck Hunt to Burnout.
+HillelTaco Or like comparing Super Mario Bros to Rayman
+October Well aren't you a special snowflake?
The remix gets me hyped more aswell
