    Great to see the additional content in recent weeks, in particular with consequential IEMs and OE headphones like like the Meze 109, the Dunu Talos and the Symphonium Meteor so far. Looking forward to more.

    This is a bit complicated to know outside of China and I'm not living their either.
    But a friend of mine lives in China and he confirmed to me, that Moondrop and Softears are the exact same company.
    In China it is common that almost all Companies have their premium brands so people with a big budget don't have to buy the same brand as normal people buy. You want something that shows you have more money then the average.
    Softears was designed with the intention to be the Chinese Vision Ears offering custom IEM and so on
    But it didn't seem to work out. The Pre Order bonus for the first few RS10 are still available, so they sell really bad and even though the homepage still says so, they do not offer Custom IEM nor review samples/test devices.
    There is also a third company called CHIKYU-SEKAI that targets on the Japanese market.
    If you want to sell products in Japan, you have to do that using an Japanese company that imports these into Japan and then sells these.
    So all Moondrop products sold in Japan are actually sold by CHIKYU-SEKAI which also seems to be Moondrop
    But one more bonus info: Moondrop and Tanchjim are related to each other and CHIKYU-SEKAI acts as an importer for both brands in Japan.
    Also there is an relationship between Questyle and Moondrop.
    So basically Moondrop, Softears, Tanchjim, Questyle and CHIKYU-SEKAI are more or less the same company

    • @SuperReview
      @SuperReview  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for that. I've understood Moondrop and SoftEars relationship as "sister companies," some Moondrop IEMs have SoftEars-customized balanced armatures. I suspected there was some relationship with Tanchjim, and now maybe Truthears, but it seems not as close. Questyle I didn't know was related, and I never heard of Chikyu-Sekai before. Interesting looking at their website though, confirms the things you're saying: www.chikyu-sekai.com/?page_id=7544
      Found a graph of a Chikyu, looks vaguely Andromeda. melatonin.squig.link/?share=CHIKYU-SEKAI_2COSMOS

      @@SuperReview I've recently bought the 5/COSMOS e-earphone Edition and it's an awesome In-Ear. Not cheap for roughly 550 but it's worth every single cent.
      It's a very fun but not fatiguing Tuning. No pushed upper mids. Very natural and harmonic with very surprising Bass, especially for an all BA. Fans of monitoring tuning won't like it, but it's an very good "I just want to enjoy" In-Ear with insane isolation (especially with the MIS Tips that it comes with)
      It's a shame it's not offered outside Japan, it seems they assume that the tuning is not liked outside Japan. But it can be bought using any proxy shipping service from the e-earphone homepage.
      If you get the chance to grab one of these, highly recommended

    i was betting you'd love the cable too 😅 it does feel like a mismatch but the choice is understandable since the iem design is already quite busy. personally, a thicker cable would've been better fit for a thicc baby like this.

    My favourite Moondrop, is the SSR. I actually preferred it over the Blessing 2, the SSR is somehow more open and lively but still smooth on the top, never fatiguing, like a vivid HD650. Sadly lost both and surprisingly ended up with the Shoeur S12, which is incredibly perfoming IEM, with decent build, and incredible cable. Very vivid, sound, can be a bit too hot for some, but can also become a quickly acquired taste. Glad to have found such a gem.

    Honestly, the Stellaris tuning looks unfinished.
    It's like Moondrop didn't spend anytime tuning this and rush it out to meet planar demand.
    That new favorite planar Mark was hinting during the stream probably starts with DUNU and ends with Talos.

    • @yiravarga

      I personally prefer these untuned "driver in a shell" IEMs. I find a lot of success just adding some acoustic resistance to my liking at the nozzle. Very easy DIY project, and I can get a much more personalized tonality.

      People treat this company as if they are infallible. For every god tier set they make like an SSR, Starfield, etc., they also make a stinker like the Stellaris or the Variations.
      It’s a chifi company throwing stuff at the wall and seeing what sticks. They all do that.

  • @yiravarga
    @yiravarga ปีที่แล้ว +1

    These might be perfect for adding more acoustic resistance at the nozzle's output! These might be intentionally tuned to compensate for the nozzle getting dirty with general use. Or, they might have not been tuned in general to lower cost? I encourage anyone to experiment with any in ear headphone they have, by adding some resistance to bright, thin sounding headphones. You'd be surprised what you discover!

    Okay this is really suprising to me, i get that everyone has their preferences and all but this is the exact oposite of what Zeos said they sound like. I believe the qoute was "I could sell a million of these on the bass alone". He did have the exact same complaints, but about the Diokos instead. Its like you heard the same two IEMs but swapped around :S
    But oh well ig i find out when they arrive!

    • @kvernesdotten
      @kvernesdotten ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SuperReview Okay that makes even less sense to me now considering the statements about the bass region, there has to be something else going on here. Idk if theres alot of variation in the products, low QA or difference in burn-in or whatever but i guess i will find out as i ordered both of these (i just live somewhere they take aaages to arrive).
      Also I know this is frowned upon by many but do you know how either of these take to EQ? Personally i really value flexibility, especially in buidget options

    • @SuperReview
      @SuperReview  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kvernesdotten Anyone frowning on EQ probably doesn't know how music is made. I don't use it much myself, but can't think of any reason you couldn't EQ these. Personally I don't really understand what people mean by "takes to EQ" or descriptions like that. EQ is just adjusting the audio that's fed to the headphone. It's like if I edit a photo in Photoshop, can your monitor take it?

    • @kvernesdotten
      @kvernesdotten ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SuperReview Fair point, what i personally mean if i say "takes well to EQ" is that A: they actually do what you ask of them correctly and B: they can 'take' a reasonable amount of tweaking before they start to distort.
      For instance, both my AKG K712's and HE1000's take amazingly well to EQ /DSP. Almost no matter what you ask of them they just go "okay sure" with very little effort. My closed beyerdynamics absolutely dont, they will distort very fast to the point where you cant change anything in a meaningful way before it sounds weird or off. Same with some RHA buds i have, if you try to tweak a frequency it seems to 'drag' other frequencies with it, making it almost impossible to get what you want from an EQ (which in this case is just to subdue a very annoying 4,5khz).
      Also I really appreciate you taking the time, props to you! and thank you! Also really like the conversation!

    • @kvernesdotten
      @kvernesdotten ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SuperReview Oh and just for the sake of conversation, color accuracy and such is a huge deal to alot of people in the same way sound is to audio people. So I guess there is monitors who "take" better than others in that sense, but i will absolutely get on board with it being a fairly nondescriptive and loose expression. Open for suggestions! :D

    • @blorg8206

      I would put the S12 above both, well above. I think Mark particularly liked the Dioko though, he put both at 4 stars but I think he ranks the Dioko above the S12. I think it's going to come down to the mid-bass, both Dioko and Stellaris are very thin through the mid-bass, for me, too thin. S12 has more.

    How is the Moondrop’s “Mid-Bass”? Is it warm, but punchy & responsive with a lot of clarity w/o bleeding into the Mids? How’s the “Sub-Bass”? I like/love Sub-Bass that hits with authority without overwhelming everything else. I love BASS, but where it’s nicely blended. Well, you just answered my question, I’ll be passing on these since they lack the Bass and are “Bright”, tuned, meaning too much treble!

      Have you heard it?

    • @TheWorld-hp9xe
      @TheWorld-hp9xe ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes and I think the ultra thin diaphragm structure causing the problem, not the tuning. They have used 1um highly stretched diaphragm, ultra thin etched circuit and magnetic field. This can deliver ultra bright sound with crazy clear details. But its just too bright for me and most people. Planar technology is good but needs time in my opinion...And also I believe Moondrop will be bigger in the future...
      You look like Ewan McGregor btw :)

    • @classicalthrasher
      @classicalthrasher ปีที่แล้ว

      Disagree, TheWorld. The emphasis is on the upper treble, where the piercing highs are not.
      I did not find it weird, just very extended both ways. Some people are sensitive to even upper treble. I do agree with the reviewer that this upper treble emphasis can come across as tizzy to some, but it depends on the recording and music. I find it a steal for the detail given, and the bass extension is amazing, adding "slam" to even the worst recorded, "non-slammy", treble-y albums.
      Each to their own of course. I bought them because I was supposed to hate them due to the treble, and I love treble extension. For the price, aesthetics, and total package, it's a win.
      I do use Spiral Dot++ with the Stellaris, as everything sounds more refined and hifi then, for lack of a better term, and without killing the highs extension. (The stock Softears I like-first time I used them-but can prove a bit too energetic with this already highly detailed pair of IEMs. Good results with other IEMs I own. But they do change the sound of whatever you use them on.)
      Thanks for the review. 👍 One thing that is understandable but a possible con is that it requires more power than usual, but at least it's usable from most portable devices that still use a headphone jack.
      Fit was quite fine by me as well.
