Peter, the way you were pulling on that wheel you looked like you were a contestant in, The World's Strongest Man, 'pull the vehicle off the lift' competition event.
Great diagnostic educational video here Peter. What I would like and I sure I speak with others is to have you filming instructions on reassembly and repair as well thank you
I just did this entire brake maintenance and handbrake job in my garage so I could get my Rav4 safety passed. It's all straight forward until rusted bold heads sheer off. Thanks 1A Auto for your tutorials on the Rav4!
Peter you are the best! Pitty that you moved to US and left Czech Republic so I cant bring my corolla 06' and Rav4 14' to your shop only if I use the boat:D
Then you wouldn't know if there was a problem with the system. And since the fluid is hydroscopic, there is a very good chance the caliper is bad anyway, as the moisture migrates to the lowest point(caliper)
@@GoofieNewfie69 If the piston pushed in easy with the bleeder screw open you would know the piston is good and the problem is the hose or further up in the brake lines.
I have had that problem and it was the rubber hose collapsed.. that's why I will release the bleeder and if the puck moves in freely then it's probably the hose for a plug somewhere
Very methodical. Lack of maintenance destroyed that setup. Might have been able to reuse caliper with some emery cloth on rusty piston. Rotor is toast. The more time test driving that rotor was cooking and giving you the clown car parade ride. While it's up on the lift maybe check, clean and relube the front caliper guide pins. You make great videos.
you didn't,t mention that the stiff calliper can also be caused by bad flexible hose acting like a non return valve...seen that a few times......keep up the good videos you explain things very well
Yea, brake fluid is hydroscopic, It's cheap to replace, you can easily do it yourself. Although it can last many year, you can save lots of money by changing it every 4 or 5 years. In Canada, a dealer can usually do it for less than $150cdn It's a good idea to have it done with your break job, you can often get a lower price since they already have stuff taken apart
I wish I could bring my Toyota to you for repair and maintenance. My 2nd gen Rav4 has a good engine, 2.0 petrol with 97k miles, has been given regular oil and filter changes but needs new prop shaft and centre bearing. I don't think my local garage wants the job.
@@efil4kizum Good question. If I can tackle it myself I will, I have tools and skills but lack the specialist equipment and shelter of a proper garage.
Hi Petr, usually when I find that either the caliber itself or the caliber bracket is messed up, I need to buy a complete new unit ie. a caliber and bracket. I have not found that the caliber or the caliber bracket are available separately. That is especially annoying when the only problem is one frozen slide pin and yet I have to replace the whole shebang and open up the hydraulics. I am usually going aftermarket so maybe these parts are available separately from Toyota. cheers
i have a Gen7 Corolla that the bracket is available from the Yota dealer separately but!! it cost some good coin compared to a re-manD full assembly from the mcParts store
You COULD have used some steel wool on the piston in the caliper, then cleaned the surface and used some high temp grease prior to pushing in. I think that would have fixed it! New pads and clean up!
You are an honest mechanic. They are hard to come by these days.
Honest and skilled
Great video, Peter. Very informative. Thank you my friend.🇨🇦🇺🇸👍
Excellent work Peter, enjoyed your diagnostic skills. Thanks for sharing.👍

You can always learn from Peter even if you are a mechanic, which I am. He explains everything so well.
Definitely worth videotaping, thank you

Man I love your shop. Just a nice one bay cozy work area. Peace and quiet
Much better than the last shop. That one would bang around the roll-up door when it got this stormy

Great Work Peter 👏🏾

How about opening the bleeder to see if the hose is restricted when pushing the piston in?

Please show the e-brake replacement. My rav4 needs it done this Spring.
Mahalo Petr for another great video!
I enjoy all of your videos. I have for some time now. My wife says your voice is soothing. Uh oh 😂

Aaaa that takes me back to my first 1970 Corolla Sprinter ...
Good times indeed.

it is best idea to have it done with brake job... i had it done once BETWEEN brake jobs,,, which turned out to NOT be a good idea later on

is that a fairly straightforward DIY task or is it very complicated to do?

Very good 👍
Your friend will have nicely functioning brakes when you get all done, and that is the important thing!

Petr, That is one lean, mean, green Sienna machine but I can smell the burning brake pads through my computer screen. 😉
Good video. Thank you !!!
Tppwhen you don’t flush brake fluid then the caliper pistons usually seize faster
How do u know when the caliper piston needs to be rotated clockwise or anticlockwise and pushing it in doesn't work ??
There will be notches for a tool to hook into but I don't recall that ever on a Toyota.
Install the stereo system taken out of your truck as a goodwill gesture.
One loud Sienna.
What grease do you use on the slide pins? I tried the purple Permatex grease and it seized them up. Thanks!

10 different things it could be 😮
Man, that would really be loading the Transmission
No, it was the brake.
I call that part the caliper hanger.
I call it the caliper bracket.
Hello. Are you in southern Californi?. Looking far a good toyota mechanic. How can I find your shop?
No. Northern California. Eureka area. About ten hours away. Check Yelp. Better to do local.
