Really interesting to hear about the differences of the fins. Wouldn't mind if you go into more detail. You don't have to judge "this bad" and "this is good", but describe the characteristics. For someone just getting into these fins it would be really valuable information, since any "normal" surfer isn't going to buy one of each to see which one fits the best.
hey Nico, love your video's, after more then 20 years i picked up windsurfing again and i learned a lot of your video's. Its great to feel the board planing again in the footstraps, clear my head from the problems when im on the water.. this feeling is great again..thank you for the video's and keep them posting❤
Super fun video! Very entertaining :-) I could see a bit of a difference in your sailing between your last two fins. Good on Lar's for trying to trick you! :-)
Hey Nico ....yes straight away I could see how the freeride fin killed the speed of the board and nose dive almost,,,haha nice trick from a friend , ,great video I love my carbon fins tools much faster and nicer to use in overpowered conditions and rough water ,I have a new 77 Isonic ,I'm really enjoying testing fins and sails on it ,keep the videos coming ,you had me smiling all the way with this one ..
Nice video Nico! Would be super interesting to hear about the impact of a high end custom fin compared to a mass tier carbon fin for below 200 euro (like Select Vmax). Also since a few years the performance freerace boards like Fanatic Jag or Rocket plus Team come with a carbon fin - how much is the difference to a 400 euro fin for lets say the average performance weekend surfer chasing the 35knots speed limit
Nice video Nico, yes can definitely see the ride difference with the glass/free ride fin! Which of the three high performance fins do you like best and why? Is there really not much difference?
I do agree with Nico, you can really tell the difference in the fins. Even if you using three different sizes of the same fin brand you can tell. Like 36,37 & 38. I have spent more money on fins than boards. And CHOPPER fins are my favourite they give you so much confidence!!
Super nice!! The fin is the most common topic in our surf group. Would be nice to have a bigger focus on the fins, brand and types. Offcourse it's all personal preference, but for a amateur would the difference be big to get a budget carbon compared to a finish or zfins? Hope to see some more!!🤙🤙
Great idea for a video and I'm impressed you managed to identify them 'blindly'. I did not think you (or anyone else) would be able to do so, except maybe when certain fins are really very different in behavior. When you come back to the beach, you seem to step from the board quite late, aren't you afraid the fin will hit the sand? I always use and old glass fin when I sail at sea because I don't trust myself always stopping in time, especially when I'm tired and not really in control anymore. Damaged my first brand new carbon fin on the first session like that :(
With this specific glass fin you see the boards sits very different in the water. The back of the boards sits too deep, no lift. Every piece of chop was eaten. :P
Would be cool if you could review a variety of freeride fins beyond high end slalom ones. Like the ones that come with Starboards retail, those green ones, K4 fins, cheaper carbon fins, etc. Should be possible with your shop.
Nice video - well done Nico. Amazing that you could identify the fin even with the damage to the tip! Bearing in mind your slalom fins are super expensive and probably out of reach for most sailors, it would've been interesting to have a more affordable, carbon slalom fin too.
Very, very good video. Fun, funny, and very interesting. What a well conceived idea, and very good on Lars to throw in a good curve ball on you too. Well done to both of you, and thanks!!!! Continued Happy windsurfing ~ (edit: finally just subscribed too)
Awesome timing with this video!! I am about to buy some new Fins for my 2021 Futura, after seeing this, I now know I need carbon Fins for more speed and control!! I could totally see the difference in trim between the carbon Fins and that Glass fin, the carbon generates so much more lift, the windward rail and the front of the board sits high, the board has a very small contact area with the water around the tail......It is not possible to sail a board with a glass fin like that, I know this because I have been trying it.......but for sure, I thought it was quite easy to see the difference, although pretty much impossible to tell the difference between the carbon fins though.
Hi , Nice vid and great editing 👍👍👍, what is your opinion about the standard Drake Fin which is delivered standard by starboard in for example the Futura...
where to place and stick the centre fin for a diy sup windsurf inf.board? right under the mast bottom connection is good or not? i ve ordered 2x same size 21cm height freeride flex fins for the same sup board... will that just work fine for starter,/intermediate level surfer?
Would love a tutorial on how to jump slalom kit. Of course i can get air but controlling the board from the footstraps on the rail makes landing and riding away very difficult.
Funny video, in particular using the Freeride fin. It would be interesting to blind test against a race glas fin as well. So a broken Z-Fin equals a Carpenter or a Chopper? 🤨
Oh god, when you pulled the z fin out of the case, your WTF was exactly like when I first saw it broken :( RIP "Z SLM 36" ????-2022 You were a great fin for choppy conditions
hey nico, i have watched quite a few of your videos. Your advice on harness lines has always been to have short lines, but in this video you've got longer lines then usual. Is there a reason behind that and could you maybe explain the difference between long and short lines?
..sonntag. .slx ou slpro ...?
It‘s Sunday, and you know what that means: It‘s time for Send it… Ahhh, that was the little other channel 😉 Cool content but what a shame for the expensive fin. How would it perform in good shape without damage on the tip?
Thank you for the video from Odessa, Ukraine! Due to the war, that Russia started in our country, we are unable to surf at the sea, mines are all the way. So that summer I will try a little lake near the city. Can You feel the difference between surfing in fresh or saltwater?
Hi Sergey, no day passes without my thoughts being with you and your country. It's a tragedy for human kind and I'm praying for piece and compassion. I know this doesn't help, but know that you're not forgotten. I hope you can windsurf in peace soon. And yes, I can tell a small difference between salt and lake water. Sometimes you may need 0,5cm more fin in the lake.
Hello Niko. A pleasure to know, that someone far away thinks about us. Your videos and tutorials are awesome and a picture and locations are amazing, so it helps us (Our little surf club, of five friends) to think about the future and gives a hope for better times. Currently, in Odessa, there is a lack of fuel and the only lake that I can get to, riding a bicycle, trailing my board, is 150 meters wide and 400 meters long. Not enough for a glide, but better, than nothing) Thank you very much for your advice. Wish the best for You and your Surf center!
@@sergeyepifanov1232 Wow! This really makes you realize how small your own problems are. Thanks for the insight. I wish you guys the best and a lot of strength!!!

ok.. so if you said the last fin felt like a 'Z' and you said the first one feels like a 'chopper or a carpenter' how did you end up with guessing the first one was a 'Z' haha!! plus.. how the hell are you not interested in how a €400+ fin got the end totally smashed off it!!!!!! I would have been crying!!! ...interesting (and confusing) that it made no difference though... crazy!

Surtout sur certains modèles spécialement orientsé Down wind..
@@Nico_GER7 hi Nico, not to be mean to you, the exercise is very good and the video also. it is a question I have, being a decent weekend sailor, even though I will not invest 400€ in a fin, I threw 250x2 (Gasoil fins & Select Hydrofoils) for weed and straight, and that will be enough for me. basically, what we get from this video is carbon (nose up, foil, etc) vs free-ride (less speed, less lift, less control). I would have loved at the end, when you guess which is which between the carbons, to tell us, the second is X because it does this and that compare to the first one and the third one....the third one is Y because it feels like this and like that compare to the first and second one. I listened carefully, and I will do it again, but at first I did not catch this details in between the high end carbon fins.

That was impressive! Also like the new music style in the vids, somehow the 80-90s techno stuff goes well with you German windsurfers 🤙
