It does seem like a full-time job reading and replying to them all! It's nice to see that people are saying such positive things though as the internet can often be a negative place.
Hi, I had a quick look through the comments to see if anyone else mentioned your hot water but can't see any, so, in case anyone is a little confused... the hot water coming from the tap/shower isn't actually the same water used to cool the engine, it's pumped through a heat exchanger that's mounted to the engine and back to the hot water storage tank. I'm not a boater myself but I do work on a few boats as a mechanic, so I've been to most of the marina's in your area, including Shardlow. Thanks for continuing to post videos.
The same water that cools the engine (and has antifreeze in it) goes through a coil inside the hot water cylinder (calorifier), so the two never mix. This is similar to the hot water cylinders in a domestic house but, because the heat source (the engine) is uncontrolled, it can get very hot. To overcome this, there is a blending valve that mixes hot and cold water to a safe temperature when it is delivered to the taps.
Hi Betty, I 'm a retired Chief Marine Engineer. I hope you don't think I'm being "holier than thou", I'm just passing on information! This is exactly what TH-cam should be! Please consider keeping doing these videos they are fantastic! I love living vicariously through others who have a life on the canals! Maybe one day....
I was re-watching this one and noticed something. When you are filling the tank, you said insert the hose in the tank and turn on the tap. You really should turn on the tap and flush your hose then stick the end in the fill. You don't need the grunge in your system, or in you. Bacteria, possible mold, and general debris, as well as insects can get started easily in damp dark spaces. Just a thought. And thats in potable water hoses. General garden hoses are even worse as they contain certain toxins to help prevent the bacteria growth. Thats why even at your house, it's not safe to drink from the hose on a hot day unless you flush it first.

Bonjour Betty.
Betty

You’re doing a great job. Informative and interesting at all times. Thank you and keep up the good work, it is much appreciated.
Thank you, I appreciate you giving me such kind feedback. 🙂
You seem to be amazing, your blogs are fantastic!

Thank you, I did feel more comfortable this time!
in this world we live in its so truly lovely there are people making such nice channels i wish you all the best young lady
Thank you very much!
Another superb video Betty, thank you for sharing! I like the way you speed-up the cruising so we see more in less time. You're becoming so confident in your vlogging now and you didn't come across as miserable at all, please keep on with the great content 🙏
I have to speed it up or the video would be an hour long! I'm glad I didn't come across as miserable anyway!
@@bettyonaboat I have never found you miserable yet Betty and could watch you for an hour or more if you ever decided to make a video that long as your such a pleasure to watch 😊
Thank you for sharing with us.
Thanks for watching!
Still watching you from the Greek island of Rhodes. I love you and I love your narrowboat. A dream come true.
Thanks for watching!
love your fashion choices x
Thank you! 😎
Lovely, I’m enjoying watching your vlogs. Take care. xxx
Thank you, I'm glad you're enjoying them! xx
Love your videos and boat. Had a sail boat and RV in the past. Will be in England again this spring with my wife who after many years now has her British Citizenship. May be we will cross paths. WE live in America and like the UK . Her mother was a Land army girl in WW 2 and a war bride to a GI.
That’s some really interesting family history! I hope you get to see some canals while you’re in England.
Great to see another video from you Betty. Thanks for sharing!
I have boats in my blood (dad was a deep sea fisherman), so love seeing these sort of vids, and yours just seem so natural and unforced. Keep them coming!
Thank you, I was worried I come across as boring!
nice bright boat, lovely light inside, nice camera work and sound look forward to more YTube canal travels
Thank you, I'm glad you liked it!
Love the channel and for once I’m here at the start in real time seeing the progress. Desperate to get my own boat but in the mean time I have folk like you keeping my dream at the forefront of my mind. 👍
Thank you, I hope you get to live your dream one day!
So glad I stumbled across your channel and now fully subscribed. You are very calming to watch and listen to. Thank you 🎥🙏 Looking forward to your videos and watching the channel grow. Daz
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
My love for the narrowboat start for year’s ago on TH-cam. Last year we had our first narrowboat holiday day for a week and I can say, it was one of the best holidays ever. This year we will go again, can’t wait. , until then I really enjoy your video’s.
It's great that people are being introduced with narrowboats and canals through TH-cam. Narrowboat holidays are so fun, I hired a couple of boats with friends before I got mine. I hope you enjoy your holiday and the weather is good for you!
Fantastic Betty

Hi Betty ,great explanation of how your water gets hot and the pump looking forward to the next one stay safe Nick🏴x
Thanks Nick, I'm glad you liked the explanation!
Hi Betty ! great set of video,s fairplay to you for taking the plunge ! Im Ireland and grew up on the Grand canal our summers were spent fishing and swimming and helping (or hindering 😀) boaters through our local lock ! We used to love seen the narrow boats and the barges then a treat would come along in a cruiser ( the were Yachts to us !!) Il look forward to your next video. Best regards Pat.
Thanks Pat, I'm glad you're enjoying the videos so far. 🙂
Bonjour Betty.
Betty
Interesting tour of the boat and how the water system works. I was curious about the hot water system and if the motor generated this or if there was a separate heater of some kind. Very practical indeed. 😊😊
Yes it’s a clever idea and a good use of energy that would have been wasted!
Thanks for the vid, it looks like you’re getting more comfortable in front of the camera 👍 Thank you for the ‘water works’ explanation 😊 Safe travels 👍
Thank you, I did feel more comfortable doing this one!
Just found you. I couldn't agree more with the great comments on here. Love your work. So relaxing and entertaining.
Lovely stuff to wind down after a long day in the office.
I'm glad it helped you unwind!
just come across your video channel, awesome, so calm and relaxing, as another comment said you take your time instead of rabbiting on at a million words a minute, definitely a channel to follow👍
I think it's because I'm not really sure what to say! I'm glad you find the videos calming and relaxing. 🙂
Hi Betty, another great video, don't worry if people might think your videos are boring as they aren't, I have found every one of them interesting and really enjoy watching you. What you cooked for your lunch looked lovely. Would love to see you do a tour of your boat if possible ❤
It was risotto! I do plan to do a boat tour in future. I'm glad you've found the videos interesting. 🙂
@@bettyonaboat mmm I wish I could of tried it as your risotto looked far better than my last attempt
I grew up near Teddington Lock, worked with a chap who lived on his narrowboat in the week and now live just half a mile from the Grand Union. And I've never been boating on a canal! So to be living your story is just great. When you get around to it, can you let us in on the tools of the trade? Windlasses, bargepoles, etc!
And, to add to what everyone else is saying, yow bin bostin'.
Yes I hope to show more tools of the trade in future. You can see my windlass if you check out my video about doing locks!
❤❤You are so amazing 🤩 Betty,
Hi Betty,
Got recommended your Video afew days ago, maybe because i watch a sailing boat Vlog.
I know that bit of canal quite well as ive cycled along it to the Clock Warehouse afew times- very beautiful.
Really enjoyed watching your videos and look forward to following your journey🙂.
Thank you, I hope you enjoy my future videos! 🙂
Loving the videos and your becoming a natural in front of the camera. Keep up the great work. Really enjoyable to watch!
Thank you, I felt more comfortable in this one!
Very informative Betty. Not a kettle heated via a bottled gas appliance. Thanks for posting. Good work with the Video. Short but to the point. 100%.
Thank you, I'm glad you found it informative! I heat my kettle on the gas stove so it's boiling and I can make tea/coffee.
Yay! Another video! Loving these so much! Thanks for taking the time to share your world 🙂
Thank you for taking the time to watch them!
I’m Dutch and quite fascinated by narrowboats and the canal network. Nice to get an inside view.
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
your so lucky to have the freedom. love the videos and always looking forward to your next instalment
Thank you, I hope you like the next one!
Thank you Betty for your very informative talks about life on a narrowboat, most enjoyable, happy boating.
Thank you, happy boating to you too!
3 videos and over 7k subscribers, must be doing something right !! I think it’s the no faffing ,natural way these are put together that people are liking. Too many over the top , long winded channels now . Keep up the great work !
babe on the internet gets heaps of views and subscribers *shocker*
@@AminorMorning Nah mate. Look at who the biggest boat tubers are.
Thank you, I'm glad you appreciate the shorter and simpler videos. I wasn't sure how these were going to turn out!
@@wonderingworld119 "boat tuber" really? 😏 I dunno, when I type in narrowboat I just get mostly thumbnails of women. When I just want fat dave on a boat....where is that channel 😋
@@AminorMorning I am sure you know how google ( who owns youtube ) works. Basically it knows a lot of stuff about you, the sort of things you personally search for, the sort of things you are personally likely to click on. It is just a mirror really. Country house gent, cruising the cut, foxes afloat and even way back Myk askin ( probably the original one ) and shortly after that sort of interesting. Hope this helps.
Betty just started watching your vlog's, Thank you for all the information about how do things, very interesting. The sections where you are just cruising, i think would be more interesting if you included, where you are (no exact details) any interesting items along the way. Thank you for what you already produce.
I'd love to hear how you decided to live on a narrowboat, how long you've been at it, and a full tour of your boat interior.
I do plan to do a boat tour in future and talk more about my boating background!
Well done Betty. Lovely to see your channel going well and another nice video too. 😃😃😎😎
Thanks very much!
Hi betty . Just love the relaxed feel to your videos keep up the good work hope to see more great content 😊
Thank you!
Your life looks pretty awesome I must admit
It's not always but thank you!
Hi, Just caught up with your latest video, I must say you are making a great job documenting your adventures, keep them coming, canal journeys are like a breath of fresh air. thanks Rio
Thank you, I'm glad you like the videos so far!
Another great video, Betty! The ducks jumping out of the water for your 3 point turn, and then diving back in again when you were done made me chuckle... I don't know why, haha
I didn't even notice that! 😄 Bless them, I love ducks. 🦆🦆🦆
Nice concise explanations about how stuff works. I know nothing about boats and found it interesting.
Thanks, I'm glad you found it interesting!
Turning a barge is no easy task! You did great. Some nice canal side pubs in Shardlow 🦆
Thank you, I've only done it a few times and always worry about it a bit! Yes there are some nice pubs. I had a meal at the Clock Warehouse and it's really nice inside and outside.
I’m so enjoying your videos!
Thank you!
Hello!🎉
Aye, aye yersel
Avast ye landlubbers
Hello to all of you!
I got stuck at Shardlow when the Trent was in flood so was “forced” to take refuge in the Clock Warehouse for the day. Lovely food on the menu and great beer!
Oh no, at least you had somewhere nice to take refuge though!
Thanks Betty. Enjoyed the background music that was so appropriate to the content. It would be good to know how you learnt all the do's amd don'ts and the tricks of the trade of running a narrowboat. 🙂
Thank you, I hope to share more in future videos!
What a lovely, charming, no nonsense video. I am loving your videos, you don't waffle on trying to fill gaps and make content, you have a lovely, direct, open and honest delivery, and it really is a refreshing change. Long may your adventures and videos continue.
I try to avoid talking as much as possible, hence the lack of waffle! 😂
@@bettyonaboat it really works well for you, although don't be afraid of speaking. But don't over talk either. A beautiful view of the canal is enough, without a voice over of what canal you are on, how deep it is, when it was opened, etc etc
People are watching you, because of you. They are invested in your story, your experience. You really do have a brilliant gift, and an amazing delivery. Keep them coming, and here's hoping you don't get many lift/swing bridges as a solo boater.
Looks like a lovely well kept boat you have there Betty, a boat tour would be great to see please 🙏 🤙
Hi Betty, second this! Would love to see a smaller boat tour and how you fit everything in! Love your videos so far. Thank you!
I do plan to do a boat tour in future! I'm glad you like the videos!
Loving Betty on a boat. The most natural Utuber on the canals. Always looking out for new videos to have a moment of escaping the real world to Betty charming lifestyle
Aww thank you, that's really kind of you to say.
