I tend to go for Shrink to fit. I found a pair of Levi’s skinny shrink to fit selvage and a regular pair of stf selvage in my wardrobe. They were tight at the time and they were in the wardrobe for 6 years or so. Was a delightful find. I bought a pair of really faded stretch 501s and they look and feel like a pair from a vintage store. I love them. Pale blue look great with so many outfits. The dark blue shrink to fit look great with a nice smart jacket white cotton shirt and a pair of brown brogues

A 501 is a must if you like jeans. Have them cotton, basic original, no shrink to fit stuff, not tgo loose cause they'll mold to your body, and wear the hell out of them, and see where it bring you. Might end up you favorite jeans of all time and then you could look at the Premium or Vintage line.

For me shrink to fit is the bear option for the 501. The shape improves with wear as when new they ate flat pressed which gives that balloon look on the legs. After wear they hand right with a better silhouette. One can size up for a loose fit size down for a tailored fit and one size either way makes a big difference. I’m a 30 but can wear a belted on pair sized up which was very popular in the 80s. The loose straight leg was really comfortable and versatile.

You should check out the 150 year anniversary Levi 501 and also the 505 vintage 1967 is a great pair of Levi’s as well👍

Must to buy 2 sizes up
To shrink in the right way
I know pretty well because it took me many pairs to get to the right pair

I’ve followed you for a few years now. You tend to like the “nicer” things in life. You should look into Japanese selvedge denim. Levi’s doesn’t even come close anymore and I’m a fan of Levi’s.

If anyone is going for LVC STF 501 in the 1947 version please size one up from your regular 501 size they run small. u may even need to size up by 2

I made the mistake of going true to size on the 47. They fit, but the top block is tighter than I'd prefer.

I used to wear these in the nineties. Yet nothing looks as good on me as a nice pair of slim fit jeans. The best jeans ever invented if you are actually fit and well-built.

The straight pants look much better on you, I think. I think us millenials are kinda indoctrinated with slim/skinny fit pants, and it kind of doesn't mesh well with all the other "timeless" garments we try to pair them with. I'm a fan of Orslow's 105s.

501's popularity is absolutely a market ploy in my opinion. I've switched to different cuts like 550's, and I think it's even more of a "perfect medium" as you called it for a nice silhouette that isn't slim or baggy. I swear people are sleeping on the 550's

The whole point of having different styles is to find the one you like

Levi's 501s are the best jeans ever made. But only the vintage ones made before around 2000 are great. Later 501s are made from lightweight inferior cotton and the fit was messed up so fatter guys can wear them. I have been wearing 501s since the late 1960s and am 67, but I am still not old enough to wear 550s which are the man's version of "mom jeans".

@sf2explus184 I have a lifetime supply of brand new authentic vintage US made shrink-to-fit 501s and dozens in various states of wear, so I don't need any high priced LVC replicas.

    LVC 501 = YES
    standard 501= NO
On a side note the standard 501 use cheaper quality cotton even if they are 100 percent cotton. i have a rinsed 501 100 percent cotton from their standard line and the stuff is ruff. compared to my LVC 1947 or 1966 which are very smooth on the skin. I do think LVC line are over priced but i can forgive them for the way the denim is cut, it truly looks like the jeans in the old marlon brando movies.
Sadly LVC line are being scrapped by Levies what a shitty move

501 pairs well with almost everything but u need to get the size right. every denim brand has a classic straight fit that is based on the 501 that is a good indication that levis as far as the 501 fit is concerned is timeless. I also like my relax tapered fit denims when i wear blazers and want to look casual smart. And when i want to wear a work wear chore coats or a leather jacket i can pull out one of my 501.

HATE Levi’s, the company!!! Love my 501 buttonfly! Shrink to fit only. I buy on sale or not at all.

These aren’t even wide. Your skinny jeans are out of touch
