    Ayup Woodlanders.
    Here's my honest review and upgrade suggestions for Remet CNC on their Branch logger range.
    I bought this with some part funding from the National Forest Company in Leicestershire the heart of the National Forest.
    If you love woodland then it'd be great if you subscribe.

    Had a few shear pins go but maybe that’s a good thing, better than the pto gears self destructing!

    Nice review. I've just bought one, not used it yet. Have you managed to wire in the safety cut off switch to the pro ? Cheers

      Thanks.
      I’ve not wired in the cut off yet. As I understand it, it cuts the tractor off

    The reason it keeps blocking is probably realted to not running at the right speed.
    It's a bit like running a topper at slow speed... It will cut grass but it will wrap up and not throw it out the back very well.

    • @AbellTo
      @AbellTo  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I run it at lower speeds I’ll do some tests at the proper 540 pto speed and see what difference it makes. Thanks for getting in touch

    I wonder if you could move the hoist bracket around so it is where you want it

    • @AbellTo
      @AbellTo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s an option. I might move the safety chain to the other side out the way of the handle.
      Thanks for watching!

    Is there any way of varying the log length? I’m looking at getting one of these to utilise the branch material (that I often waste) for the fire?

    • @AbellTo
      @AbellTo  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes sort of, running at full 540 pto speed (I don’t but should) give optimal length and also mine is a 3 blade one so will give longer lengths than a 4 blade one.
      The thicker the diameter of the branch the shorter the cut. So if thick end is fed in the those are shorter than the twiggy buts that go through last

    On greasing the gears, you might get away with putting a fitting on the cover with a pipe that puts the grease between the gears while it's running is you've got the means to do so

    • @AbellTo
      @AbellTo  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks that’s a good idea, I’ve been thinking about it the last couple of days. I even wondered about a hole that I could pop a grease gun tube through (while it’s not running) and then plug the hole

    Could you not swap the chain and the winch strap over? I believe its supposed to run 540 pto speed which I think is about 1500 rpm that way less blockage and less load on the blades just a thought as Ive used one on a Antonio Carraro alpine tractor which is very similar to yours and at 1500 rpm worked a treat. Just a thought. Loving the channel. Pete.

      Hi Pete yes more revs next time I’m out, and the hand winch I’ll swap round. I’ve not had a chance to give it any attention but hoping to soon with a video of course, thanks so much for watching and the feedback. I use to have a carraro, fantastic tractor and totally regret selling, it’s still in use on Dartmoor somewhere

    How do you connect the wire for the kill switch?

    • @AbellTo
      @AbellTo  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good question, I’ve not done that yet, it needs to tap into the stop solenoid on a Diesel engine.
      If you’re not sure might be best to ask Remet or you local AG dealer.
      Hope that helps

    • @AbellTo
      @AbellTo  ปีที่แล้ว

      Also depending on tractor type if it’s electronic pto you might be Abellto tap into that

  • @BGWenterprises
    @BGWenterprises ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You said that tractor is 35hp
    Is that net rating at pto.
    or engine fly wheel gross rating?

    • @AbellTo
      @AbellTo  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s the engine HP, the pto will be somewhat lower but not sure what. As far as I know most implement manufacturers tend to mention engine HP as the figure to work from but I could well be totally wrong.

    • @BGWenterprises
      @BGWenterprises ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Abell To with it being at engine 35.
      .
      In my experience, I would expect somewhere around 25 to 27 at the pto.
      Depending on the type of transmission in the tractor.
      A hydrostatic would be the lowest hp.
      A classic gear drive would be best.
      Shuttle shifts and power reversers somewhere in the middle.
      .
      I find, on average they like to advertise the biggest hp they can on the tractor.
      .
      In north America.
      They have gross and net ratings for the engine, as well as a net at pto.

    • @AbellTo
      @AbellTo  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BGWenterprises this is all gear pto, like the old ways. I’m sure there’s some stats somewhere on the net for it’s power take off

    You are running at the wrong speed - hence your problems! These don't work off what engine speed you feel is comfortable they MUST be run at 540 rpm on the pto ! Your plan to hack up the discharge chute is absolute lunacy. Running at the right speed should fix most of the issues, if it doesn't stop pushing that crap through it & use it for it's intended purpose - LOGGING! Otherwise say goodbye to any warranty & possibly a few fingers or a hand.

    • @AbellTo
      @AbellTo  ปีที่แล้ว

      All good points. And they will help others as they decide whether this machine is right for them.
      Which model branch logger are you running?
      The warranty is over now anyway. I still feel the discharge chute is a poor design, each to their own I guess. Thanks for watching and your comments are really appreciated

      @@AbellTo I'm looking to buy a Remet R120 to cut down small stuff. I use a Hakki Pilke Expert for the 'proper' stuff. You said you run this tractor at 1300 rpm but BCS reckon it needs 2400rpm - so that's the main issue causing blockages. It also would invalidate any warranty on either machine as you are strangling the tractor

    • @AbellTo
      @AbellTo  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ChrisTaylor-xv2tc gotcha, hope things go well on the purchase. I was advised to go for the 150 but my little tractor won’t lift it.
      But to have a bigger machine than needed does make sense now but at the time this was what I needed.
      I’m happy with what it does the video what simply to highlight what I’d found as I ran it.
      Next time I use it I will run upto full speed and compare the results
