    Q. Great job. I had a nice fad my whole life ( Colin Montgomery swing). Somehow , I started getting too steep and standing up to hit the ball. Worked hard in the 'shallowing drills course' and got where I was shallowing fairly well... and still standing up. But, I can see on your before video , he is actually starting to shallow the club pretty well , but because of moving forward with his hips.... he still has to stand up. This video has helped me a lot... I'm shallowing OK , but have got to hinge to keep the hips back to get rid of the standing up .
I think my analysis is correct. Thanks a bunch.

Hey! I know that range! Interestingly, it was the rays of dead grass radiating away from the mat in the pic on the right rather than the lake or the brick pattern that caught my eye. :-) So, does Clay have a tie-in with The Villages?? (We're both Kentuckians and I used to pester him in the comment section of his *tennis* videos. 🙂). Have made enough progress with *my* EE that I'm calling it "good enough". This old back can only take so much "side bend". 🙂

Never mind. Re-wound and saw that it's an "online" lesson situation.

    Good video, very informative.
I have struggled with this issue all of my golfing life, therefore, I must ask a few questions:
-How fast was he swinging in the before and after video? At a slow speed, it is easier to keep your tush back on the line. At full speed or top speed, it is nearly impossible to keep that tush on the line.
-What was his clubhead speed and ball speed before and after the changes? In my experience, when making a huge change like this, speed suffers.
-How accurate were his shots before and after the changes? This is where the rubber meets the road.
I appreciate any feedback you may offer.

Personal anecdote and may be of no value to anyone else, but the "feel" that is working for me is that my "neck" is held/kept more horizontal and I use that as the axis about which I think of rotating coming down and through. *Much* greater accuracy when I remember to do it. Using the Mevo+ "Pro Package" so the FTT (face-to-target) angles go from the five to six degrees "open" range when I forget to the zero to two range when I don't forget. Highly recommend such "feedback".

Hey, this is Q, the instructor from the video. He is swinging at full speed in both the before and after. He did many slow reps and worked up to full speed. I'm not sure what his ball speeds were before and after but that wasn't the goal. He likely gained some ball speed because he is getting a little more shaft lean. Your speed is going to suffer when trying a new movement because you don't know how to do the movement. You have to train it. Start slow, train the movement then build up the speed. Also, if you improve your swing from a mechanical standpoint, it doesn't necessarily mean your shots are going to start getting more accurate right away. In the beginning, you'll likely be more accurate swinging the old way. This is because you are more coordinated with the old way. Imagine learning to type only with your thumbs on your phone then switching to a full size keyboard. The full size keyboard will be much more efficient once you learn the finger movements but you'll be pretty slow when you first start to learn.

@@TopSpeedGolf Hopefully the changes you instilled in your golfer will yield better results for him overall. Thank you for the reply and looking forward to your next video.

wouldn't the pool noodle also cause you to take the club back too much on the inside?

I'm not saying this is wrong but there are videos out there that contradict some of this. Not the part of about keeping your butt on the imaginary vertical line on the backswing all the way to contact, but the back leg. Some say straighten back leg on backswing for better shoulder pivot and less stress on lower back. Sometimes its hard to know what's right but sometimes I guess its what works for you.

The vast majority of golfers are going to benefit from straightening out the trail leg in the backswing. If you don't and you're not extremely flexible in your hips and spine then you're either going to have a very short swing with less power or you're going to find a way to lengthen your swing in a different way like swaying your hips which will likely lead to inconsistent ball flight/contact. Keep in mind that you don't need to lock it out. Just straighten it out some. If you look really closely at players that you might believe keep their trail leg flexed, you'll see they actually straighten it out a little bit. Brooks Koepka would be an example. He straightens it out a small amount in the beginning of his backswing. He is extremely flexible in his spine.
