When I worked for PRS I wanted to get a McCarty as my Employee 2 years of service guitar. Unfortunately it's wasn't on the choice list that year. I picked up a Tremonti instead.
Man fluff what were you using for overdrive on that!? That was incredible and then you clicked again as if to bump it with a boost. Sounds great would love to know what you were using.
I know PRS has a reputation as being “Corksniffer-esque” but the Core McCarty 594SC takes the ‘58 Les Paul and perfects it. I never knew a guitar could feel like it was made for you. These do.
I have a 2013 Gary Grainger 4 String in Honeyburst. It plays and feels amazing. PRS makes such amazing guitars at every price point. I really dig the new tuner buttons as well
I repair guitars and have had numerous examples of this model, from the SE to the Core. The SE is a great guitar, but there's a larger difference between it and the S2 than there is between the S2 and Core. The necks are extremely close, and pickups aside they sound the same. And if you've played one guitar from a particular model you've essentially played them all. One thing PRS have been known for from the earliest days right up to the present, is to manufacture their guitars with an almost inconceivable level of consistency. Not just from a QC aspect, but in the tone. Anyone who's played enough Strats, Teles, Les Pauls and so on, can attest that there can be noticeable differences from one guitar to the next, even between identical models. PRS on the other hand all sound the same, even with guitar types that typically vary greatly from one to the next, like semihollows*. If I could give any advice about buying a PRS, it's that if you can find the one that you want, it's better to buy a used ones. Guitars have always been like cars: terrible investments because they only depreciate until you get to the antique/vintage age. This has been upended over the last few years, where guitars that only came out a year or two prior are as much as new ones, if not more. This will not be a permanent state though. Covid changed the guitar market almost overnight. Gibson went from having it's biggest sales declines in their history just over the previous two years, to having the demand outstrip their supply. That state of affairs had an expiration date though, one which was hit a year or so ago with declining sales in the used market. PRS, while being the most expensive guitars, always had low resale value compared to Fender and Gibson. They're by no means cheap, but that's only because they're so expensive when they're new. While I can't back this up with numbers, knowing as many PRS owners and fanboys that I've met over two plus decades in a repair shop, I believe it comes down to the type of people who buy PRS. They tend to be older, and have a lot of disposable income. They know what they want and can afford them, so they buy them new. I did a pickup swap in a Core McCarty singlecut only a couple weeks ago that the guy was able to pick up for $2100. I remember the price because it struck me as an odd number. It wasn't in "like-new" condition, but it Was in really good condition. I think it had one small chip in the back on the edge and a little bit of play wear that could easily be removed. I was actually a bit jealous that he got it for that price, but they've been selling for around $2500 for a while. The prices of used S2s have been tumbling pretty dramatically, I've seen them as low as $1000 but there's no reason to need to spend more than $1200 for one. Due to the consistency of their guitars, you don't have to worry about it sounding different from one you've already played, so it just comes down to the finish you like and condition. *That said I'm curious as to how consistent the Ash Special SE (or whatever it's called). Ash is a tone wood that's notoriously fickle when it comes to the tone. You can have two ash bodied Teles, both the same model and weight, but one will be bright and cutting while the other is warm but punchy. I guess you could always just load the finish on it and it'll mitigate any variances, but who wants that.
I have a core and an SE and the SE to me holds up very well. I would rather have an SE for the price than an S2. The core is a work of art. I bought my core sued for $2300. It’s a 10 top too. I find myself playing the SE the most tho. No clue why lol
I own both PRS Custom 24 and Singlecut models... Growing up the custom body shape intrigued me , now as an adult and owning both... I am a Singlecut guy 100% Also own Les Paul's and love them but something about a Singlecut
That is awesome...I recently brought an SE PRS, and it's not as high end as that model but (hell) it's amazing. And I agree it fixes all the issues I've found Gibson's seem to give me every time I've played one.
Masterpiece.. I have the same top in artist grade.. Incredible to say the least I have both the single and double cuts, both artists tops and they are the best guitars I have ever played..
How's singlecut vs doublecut by your experience? IMO Singlecuts have more low end, but I'm basing that based on McCarty 594 Doublecut, old McCarty singlecut with rosewood neck vs SC245 and SC Satin.
Both have their place. I like the JB in my strat cause when I coil split the bridge it matches the output of the single coils. Granted unsplit its twice as loud and as you said, less clear
I really wanted one of these 594 guitars but the price for the core model is crazy. Instead of the core model I picked up a McCarty 594 S2 10th Anniversary DC model. This special edition S2 has the core electronics and hardware and it is much cheaper. When it arrived I could not find one flaw with this guitar and the setup was perfect out of the box. It is a fantastic guitar but it doesnt look as good as this 10 top core model in this video. I find the 10 top PRS guitars not worth the upcharge as a lot of the non 10 tops look pretty good as well.
Ehi Fluff… very nice double cam view, congrats man… Anyway… no locking tuners for no trem guitars? Why PRS, why? I love the original locking tuners on my 2007 Tremonti fixed bridge… why change good specs?
Correction: The tuner buttons are a new shape, but are still the old Kluson style and are not Phase III tuners. Phase III tuners are PRS open-back locking tuners which come standard on many trem equipped PRS guitars like the Custom 24.
That riff from 2:00 - 2:12 is sick. It sounds like it's straight off of ETID Low Teens, and that is a good thing. The guitar doesn't sound too shabby either.
I REALLY like PRS guitars, they're just very well thought out. My only questionable thought on any guitar wit a stop tail/hard tail/string through bridge is that locking tuners should be an option with a $20 upgrade charge. If it's an option I see it as a possible bonus, if desired, to the buyer. If they're available in the factory, they're just as easy to install & make string changes easier/faster.
All non trem PRS models going forward will not have locking tuners. To reduce the weight on the headstock. When the 594 was first introduced, a few years ago they originally had them
On a 594 seems to me only advantage is quicker string changes as for example my S2 has made me feel locking tuners are unnecessary for tuning stability on fixed bridge PRS guitars.
Still not sold on the new buttons, nor the fact locking tuners are taken off the table for such a pricey instrument. It takes the cake a little when theyre still charging as much if not more for a guitar with lesser parts. The guitars are bloody lovely looking things though and in your hands absolutely rips! :) Good stuff as ever sir
That a beautiful guitar. The choice to put locking tuners only on tremolo equipped models seems bizarre to me. I love locking tuners on any style guitar.
I wish they'd keep the locking tuners on all their guitars. I don't know why you wouldn't want that. Takes 1/3 the time to change strings, and less wear on the gears (though that is negligible). And less trauma to the nut, which means that much more life of the nut and tuning stability. But those tuners are ok...I guess less weight? I love the sound of it though...core prs guitars...I haven't met one I didn't like so far! I've played many gibson custom shops that didn't do it for me. Just sayin...
PRS makes wonderful guitars. I play mine more any other guitar that I own. However, I think the new tuning buttons are unattractive, not that it matters much.
Superb looking instrument. I've tried many different PRS models over the last 20 years, but haven't found a neck profile and fingerboard radius that I like. I have always been impressed with the fit and finish of every one I've tried, but unfortunately as yet haven't been able to find 'that guitar'. Thanks for sharing. 🤘🏻
This guitar is gorgeous. The nitro finish looks really cool on camera. Depending on the camera angle it looked gloss or satin at times. I finally got to try an SE McCarty a week or so back. I know it's not the core model by any means. But I get why people like them now. Definitely more comfortable to play than a Les Paul to me but has that kind of flavor.
Older McCartys have locking tuners, but I read somewhere, that Paul decided that non-locking sound better in that model. ;) Well, I own '22 McCarty 594 and it's stunning guitar. :)
It's about the way it ages. There's a timeless thing about it. When you ding a polyurethane lacquer, it just looks like a flaw. Nitro guitar checks so easily that it just adds character
They are awesome guitars, but I still prefer the LES PAUL, the look, feel, tone that I fell in love with 25 years ago. I have 5 now , PRS are cool too but they aren’t GIBSON LES PAUL
Prs is the most overhyped and overpriced guitar brand of all time. They need to focus on their qc as it pertains to finish fading and finish lifting. These issues are so bad that they changed their warranty policy, and if you don't believe it, check out number 5 on that page. I love how prs sends guitars out and somehow it's not being paid, even though they sent it out for influencers to make videos, which is a form of monetary compensation.
Got my 2020 594 SC and it absolutely amazing. The pickups and tones Fluff described are spot on. PRS hit a homerun on this model.
When I worked for PRS I wanted to get a McCarty as my Employee 2 years of service guitar. Unfortunately it's wasn't on the choice list that year. I picked up a Tremonti instead.
Prs=Quality
I prefer the old tuner buttons. 😜
She sounds as good as she looks tho
Man fluff what were you using for overdrive on that!? That was incredible and then you clicked again as if to bump it with a boost. Sounds great would love to know what you were using.
That mix slaps 🤙🏽

You’re not kidding! It’s such an amazing guitar

That “in the context of a mix” jam was super rad man!
I just picked up a really nice 2024 McCarty 594 double cut 10 top in sunburst a few weeks ago.
They are really great guitars.
Love your playing style absolutely great and with that PRS the sound is amazing

Great review, Fluff! Thanks
I am a prs fan boy. The 594 is my favorite for a non trem guitar and the dgt is the one i prefer for a trem style. They are just great guitars.

@@aciek singlecut has better upper fret access, if you have big hands like me its something to consider

My 594 SE singlecut will do me and my budget just fine, but damn that's one sweet beast.

Sick ! That top is Top of The Pops. !
How’d you like new tuners buttons? Looks almost like sperzel.
Hey fluff, what synergy preamp would you recommend for Ada mp-1 distortion (smashing pumpkins, Deftones,…)
Thanks !
I enjoyed your playing on this one ❤
I love the 594 so much
Preach brother
Great nice looking and sounding guitar! That rocks.
That top looks better than a 10 top . Pretty much Private Stock Grade
Full mix was on point my boy what the heck
Correction: The tuner buttons are a new shape, but are still the old Kluson style and are not Phase III tuners. Phase III tuners are PRS open-back locking tuners which come standard on many trem equipped PRS guitars like the Custom 24.
I absolutely hate the kluson style vintage tuners I wish that fad would go away
What amp are you running her through? It sounds great..
I run mine mostly through my PRS Archon 100 (USA) into a friedman 4x12.. Greenbacks V30's.
... the jungle.
KEEP IT !
I could be wrong, but unless they changed them again recently. The push/pull tone knobs give you coil taps, not coilsplitting.
Thats a bad ass single cut
That riff from 2:00 - 2:12 is sick. It sounds like it's straight off of ETID Low Teens, and that is a good thing. The guitar doesn't sound too shabby either.
McCarty was born just down the street from where I live in Somerset, ky.
Fluff, how are these shorter scale PRS on lower tuning?
Looks good and sounds good. Basically nothing not to like (would prefer locking tuners though).
Was hoping for more info....the neck? I know you like the neck shape, but what is it? thin U, D? Is it neck heavy, as my McCarty DC is. Thanks...
The neck is D shaped, slightly tapered . Thick. I own the S2 594, I love it. Not neck heavy. It's very balanced. No neck dive with a strap

Op from SOA
Do a stoptail tremonti next
DO NOT LET THAT ONE GO!
That a beautiful guitar. The choice to put locking tuners only on tremolo equipped models seems bizarre to me. I love locking tuners on any style guitar.
The idea to have nonlocking tuners on non trem models is to reduce weight, better sustain, less stuff to dampen the vibration of the strings
58/15 LT pickups are 3 wire. You need 4 wires to coilsplit.
Yeah, it coil taps. I think it just lowers the out put on one of the magnets of the humbucker. They sound great regardless.
@@JoeDread316 No magnet trickery, just a coil tap. I've got a set in an SE that are excellent.

Incredible piece of workmanship. This is a lifetime guitar

Man they really nailed the LT pickups, those things sound so good
The 58/15LT's are something special.. Even the SE S versions sound great

“Unalive myself”……. I’m unalive 😉😆🤘🏼✌🏼

liked the tone in the full mix example. It seems like you were able to remove the sterility that plagues a lot of PRS that have seen and played.
I’m a bigger fan of the single wrap around bridge.
I'm still waiting for a 24 fret semi hollow singlecut with a trem and locking tuners I dont know why that hasn't been a thing yet
BUY THE S2
Trying to, Sweetwater told me they are not getting any more in. And I have a pile of Sweetwater gift cards. Doh!
Was it sent on loan? Or in a take it bro it's on us?😊
in a mix all your guitars sounds the same! 😃
Thats because its a mix and I get to decide what anything sounds like :)
Lol
I have McCarty 594 with the same pickups and I can hear their specific character in this demo. :)
LOVE that guitar! But I've never bonded with those low turn pickups. Id replace them with something Vintage flavored but a little hotter.
Cool grampa's guitar
put a wang bar on it and you got yourself a 10 top tremonti
If I was in the market for a gutar in that price range, I would definitely take the PRS over a new Gibson. No locking tuners though????
Older McCartys have locking tuners, but I read somewhere, that Paul decided that non-locking sound better in that model. ;) Well, I own '22 McCarty 594 and it's stunning guitar. :)

"All new"😂 literally the only difference from last year is the new tuner button shape.
Have you ever reviewed anything that wasn't sunshine, rainbows and unicorns. Your reviews come across as infomercials.
Wish PRS wouldn't have gone the nitro finish route...I guess I'll never understand the hype for nitro finish.

Shitty tuners smh..locking tuning machines with replaceable buttons or hard pass for me
You can play baseball with those Prs chunky necks.
