I'm 5'6 and took a lot of you advice from Fighting with Your Physique video, which was very helpful. This one reinforced how I have to get better at fakes since I already do the other two frequently.
As the most casual of martial arts observers, I'm still impressed by the guy who's stuck in a hotel on layover but can't get his mind to quit thinking about his passion, and just has to get out a quick video in his cramped apartment. And it's still a valuable video!
I’m in the Newark/NY area and would have signed up for your seminars if I had known! Please, would it be possible if you could give details of your future seminars as you book them so your followers in the area are aware and have an opportunity to sign up? Thank you and have a safe flight back home!👍👍
Low kicks, calf kicks and sweeps are good tactics against taller fighters as they tend to be slower to defend those and the shorter fighter has the lower center of gravity ..
These are some amazing tips Gabriel, these were so useful for me because I often spar people at the gym that are a weight class above me and do have that height advantage non the less, such an amazing video Gabriel and keep up the great work as always! 🎉
The last tip was fantastic, for some reason I hadn’t thought too much about focusing on kicks before punching during combos. As always thank you for all the great content even while you’re traveling! Also it’s so funny imagining you setting up your selfie cam in the hotel room for that thumbnail photo 🤣🤣
Gabriel just got home to Victoria, BC and 100% sounds different. He was away teaching seminars and has to talk a lot louder than normal when doing that, so everyone can hear him. He lost a bit of his voice and got a sore throat from speaking loudly. Gabriel's dad - Keith Varga
Sir how can i improve my fighting stamina more faster?(i don’t want to have sean strickland’s stamina in 2 weeks😂 but i need to improve my stamina a littbe bit more.Any exercises you can give me?
In MMA I feel like being shorter fighter is an advantage. You can grapple your opponent and stay on him a lot easier than in boxing, and you have overwhelming power advantage
If he is way out of your reach, you should use low kicks, body kicks and body shots first to lower the height difference. I think kicks can neutralise punches easily as I am from Bangkok, Thailand. If you use kicks and elbows correctly, the taller puncher won't pick you apart. On the other hand, you will pick him apart with kicks, elbows, sweeps and dumps.
Most tall guys can just lean back to avoid strong hooks and telegraphed over hands, if youre gonna close the distance your best bet is to attack the body. Also short guys have to either be able to switch stances or keep up with the open stance body kicks
everytime I try to switch kick and start doing my boxing combos after I just get blasted with the punches. I haven't been able to troubleshoot why I suck at it
@FirstLast-ix7vh yeah I've been having success already with that. only the lead leg switch kick into punches is the one that I'm having trouble with and I want to make it work. Now having to think about it I would probably have to sell a jab or a lead hook feint to make them shell up and only throw the kick if they shell up.
@FirstLast-ix7vh forgot to tell that I mostly spar with people have around 10cm+ reach advantage so to do those kicks I would have to be pretty straight up and that would just leave me open to get blasted with straights.
That is a funny illusion being caused by that one section of low bulkhead in the ceiling. He looks like a giant. Look out Rico Verhoeven - there is a new talented 6' 8" KickBoxer in town! Gabriel's dad - Keith Varga
Yes he is 178 cm. You read my joke about him looking so tall due to the section of low ceiling in the hotel room. Rico is a really big guy - tall and very muscular. One punch from him and guys Gabriel's size would be off to the hospital. Gabriel is around 8"' shorter and 100 lbs lighter than Rico... an accident waiting to happen for Gabriel.
@@kvarga9164 I am 5'9" or 175 cm, 130 lbs or 58 kg. I think nobody can beat Rico if he were only 175-180 cm. Even if he were a Black belt bjj and a world class MT striker like Superlek, the difference between the size matters. If the height and weight are huge different, it is hard to compete against a huge guy.
As a 5'6 dude i appreciate this video a lot. Thanks!
Also, take care Gabriel, your voice sounds like you caught cold.
Me too I am 5'6 and my last match was against a 6ft in heavyweight Muay Thai
The teep he did from that range was insane
I got Another Match This coming Month
Maybe if We are Match Again I will try these combos

same ! nyc here and id love to attend a GV seminar :)
Sam here. I’m in NY. I think they usually leave it up to the school to market. Some schools just want to keep the seminars open for their students

awesome like always
Great video, can you do one on things the taller fighter should keep in mind that the shorter fighter might try to exploit.
Can you do video on uppercuts and how to land them please
Dude your voice sounds so different and way more deep. Thanks for the tips though :)

Can you do the reverse video? How to defend if you’re taller?
Thanks
I did not realize how big Coach Varga is 😆he looks 7ft tall in this hotel room

How do you punch a taller opponent? Punching upwards feel very inefficeint to me.
