    Hi Bleu! Thank you so much for all this information. I'm so excited to start studying on my own for the CCA. One question I do have is about pharmacology and Pathophysiology. I noticed you never gave a timeline or mentioned that we needed to learn these subjects. If these two subjects are necessary, roughly how long would it take to learn the material and would it be best to learn this information after medical terminology or after anatomy physiology?

    • @MedicalCodingwithBleu
      @MedicalCodingwithBleu  ปีที่แล้ว +10

      There was no space to incorporate it into the template, but the books are listed there along with law, liability, and ethics.
      You can do those subjects concurrently with medical terminology or anatomy if you like. The key thing is to not overthink on when you should, just do, make sense?

      This may be a little late but absolutely learn all your A&P and terminology before attempting Path & pharm, or a lot of stuff won't quite make sense. It's hard to understand the effects a drug or disease has on an organ without understanding the structures and funtions being effected

    Thank you Bleu for the list above. I have gone through the whole list and the links and I have many of the books or I had courses in the topics you have listed when I did my HIM degree. I do have my RHIA but I am looking to get my CCS certification as I focused on medical coding after graduation since it underpins so many other HIM jobs/tasks and I wanted that coding knowledge. The plan you have laid out here is very thorough and realistic to what we need to know in HIM as coders, and especially if we code for Level I trauma centers. I have appreciated your videos and have learned a lot from them, thank you very much.

    Hi Bleu. Well what you outlined is a massive amount of reading and absorption of highly detailed and technical information. Which is fine, I've done it before, but unfortunately it was several years ago and Ive forgotten most of it. I was hoping I could get my credential in a few months and start working after that but now I'm seeing thats not realistic. I'm not one of these people that just zip through everything, I take more time because I find trying to fly through and "just get the big stuff" for something as complex as healthcare to be frankly ridiculous. I don't have a year to study though. Gotta figure something out. Wish I could get a Vulcan mind meld from Spock. Ive been trying to ride out the pandemic at home but I only got started on this quest fairly recently and way underestimated the time needed. So when you said a year, was that based on 20 hours/wk? I think if the fire was under my feet I could study 8-10 hours a day. Thanks for listening and caring.

Has much changed in these books since then or would the 2020 versions still be sufficient for learning to code in 2023?

      I don't know that it would help you necessarily with the coding course, but it will help start filling out your resume. When you do get certified, you'll have experience in billing to put on there. :)

    Hi Bleu, new subscriber here, You definitely saved me from one of those expensive online programs, THANK YOU!! Anyway, after a lot of research I believe I want to get the CCS certification, but is the CCS one that I can learn independently and be able to sit for the exam without any prior coding experience? I have been an RN for 6 years but have never done anything anywhere close to billing or coding. I am also starting on my BSN in a month. It's an online program doing one class at a time every five weeks. I will hopefully be working weekends only by then too. So, if I have Monday through Friday to focus on learning, do you think it would be reasonable to follow your independent study guide while taking one class at a time for my BSN? Thank you

      I have a video about breaking down the credentials so you can get more detail on each...but to answer your question. No, one is not better than the other. One says that you can code BOTH inpatient and outpatient coding...thats the CCS.
      The CPC is for outpatient coding only.
      It just depends on where you want to work and what you want to do.
