    Thanks for your idea! I made a single row clamp rack (using two pipes) and it fits all my clamps perfectly in a small space in my shop. I wish I could share the picture I took of it for you!

    One of those 'smack my head, why didn't I think of that' moments! Make rails from conduit to hang them all on, in layers no less! Also, I kinda love the splines instead of screws, for an easy way (assuming one has the spline jig) to achieve near-dowel corner strength. I think I'd make something nicer out of that baltic birch than a shop clamp rack backer, and maybe go with something rougher from the scrap bin (or the neighbor's dog house), but to each his own! Yours looks great!

    • @MakeThings
      @MakeThings  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much! Yeah, trying to keep it in a budget as I know a lot of woodworkers that start out would rather put that money in machines.

    Your vids just go from strength to strength Rob. To make such a watchable vid about something so straight-forward as clamp storage shows genuinely original thinking and imagination. And the remarks about personalizing your own workshop and taking time to enjoy what you've made are an inspiration. Good for you mate, well said. And on a final note, I found the Easter images and church bell sounds uplifting and liberating. Thanks for that.

      Ah Mark, you always find a way to bring a smile to my face...thank you so much. I honestly feel the same way about your videos. Each and every one of them are uplifting to me. Usually you get 3/4 through the project and then you say but wait I've got another idea. I waited until this video ended all the time thinking " how is he going to spiff this up" and surprise nope so I'd guess you don't want to tweak perfection. This is a very interesting build and I like the idea of using conduit tubing and the artistic design

    • @MakeThings
      @MakeThings  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha, thanks Alan! This isn't my first one...one other one I made before this was a dismal failure...which made me crack down on distancing the tubing just right.

    That tip with carpet tape was genius. I bought some double sided tape here awhile back n it is expensive for amount u get.. I bet carpet tape isn't as expensive.

    • @davemartin1534
      @davemartin1534 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MakeThings yep when you was telling how much you paid for the conduit I thought gee wiz that kinda expensive then as I thought about it I remembered buying a 1 inch dowel over a year ago I remembered how much I paid for a 3 ft wooden dowel. Then I counted up how many wooden dowel I would have to buy to make that rack. Conduit is the bomb.

    • @MakeThings
      @MakeThings  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dave Martin exactly! It’s a great way to save money....AND you’re not limited to the 36” length.
      For example, each of the lengths I used were 20” conduit. With a 120” full length of conduit, I was able to break it up easily into the lengths I needed.
      As for 1” dowels, I have never seen a 10’ dowel. If I’m buying them in 3’ lengths, I’d have to waste 16” on each dowel. Since I used 5 20” lengths, that would be a loss of 320” or 6 and a half inches of segmented lengths of dowels.

    • @davemartin1534
      @davemartin1534 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MakeThings yep exactly about wooden dowels. FYI. However I have seen longer wooden dowels than 3 ft. They will b in the section of coat closet rod kits. N come in kit form with all the extra accessories to hang the rod--- an they not cheap😵 compared to conduit.

    You don't see too many clamp racks where they use the handle like this. I made mine with some leftover hardwood flooring with spacers and it was quick and easy. Holds a lot of clamps and you don't have to worry about them falling off like a lot of the racks you see on youtube.
    What kind of clamps are those?

    I forgot to make a technical enquiry - what is the blade tension on your bandsaw? Do you find yourself adjusting (by which I mean 'fiddling about with') it a lot?

    • @MakeThings
      @MakeThings  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use to fight long and hard with that bandsaw...and it really is only good for cutting curves in my opinion. I went through so many blade tensioners to find out they had given me a crooked aluminum wheel...or maybe I bent it by trying to straighten the saw out?
      I actually went to a far simpler system, eliminating both the upper and lower guides on the saw. I went with a Carter saw blade stabilizer before I even started making youtube videos:
      www.carterproducts.com/band-saw-products/band-saw-stabilizer
      Unfortunately, there are many different models...and you have to find a one that fits your bandsaw. Now I honestly don't touch it.

    • @MarkMcCluney
      @MarkMcCluney 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Rob. It never occurred to me that there might be after-sales upgrades for a bandsaw. I'll have a good look at this product. Thanks again.
