I just wish this had sold better, it put the Obsidian boss off making any more apparently. I haven't finished PoE2 but so far it IS incredible, Larian deserve the praise they get but I think PoE1/2 got a little lost under BG3 and DoS2
@@SgtWilko1979Avowed is our this year and it's set in the PoE eternity universe. It wasn't PoE that didn't sell, it was Deadfire. The first sold well enough, plus it's Kickstarter to justify a sequel. I think Deadfire not doing well really bummed everyone out. Everyone felt burned. I like the fact separately that Tim Cain worked as a straight up programmer on the games. Being burned out by being in charge he mostly just coded and left everything else to others. It's cool that both are now free on Gamepass. Means a lot more people will hopefully get to try both games when they might be outside of their wheelhouse. Maybe Avowed might drive more people to them too. Presuming that enough players like that game obviously.
Totally on board with you releasing this challenge as a episodic series I would love to see more content of this game! Huge congrats finishing this challenge hope you can upload the update sooner than later!
After 330 hours of playing this masterpiece and repeatedly restarting after 30 hours, I finally committed to seeing it through to the end. My MC is a Mindstalker (Trickster & Beguiler), with Eder as a Swashbuckler (Fighter + Rogue), Xoti as a Priest, Aloth as a Wizard, and Pallegina as a Herald (Paladin + Chanter). The only downside to Pillars of Eternity 2 is that you can't respec companions or adjust their attributes, which feels limiting. That aside, this game is a true masterpiece. It's unfortunate it didn't sell well, and Obsidian ceased supporting it just a year after release. For both new and returning players, I highly recommend the Community Patch and Enhanced User Interface mods available on Nexus Mods. These mods enhance the game and improve balance without breaking the experience. They even fix some abilities that were overlooked in the official patches. Congratulations Mort, on this monumental achievement! You are a true power gamer and a role model for cRPG enthusiasts!
This is me living vicariously through you... I have neither the skill, nor the time, nor the attention span to do something like this but it's so cool to see it unfold here
Congratulations man!!! I think the "defeat" thing should be OK, because many of those who have officially beaten the challenge actually killed themselves intentionally out of combat in order to gain an injury. The reason being that the helmet Rekvu's Fractured Casque grants immunity to interrupts while injured (which really helps against the Helfire Colossus).
Huge congrats! Getting this challenge done is really an amazing feat of gaming. And timely too, since I'm planning to do my first complete playthrough of Pillars 2 soon too, to get in the mood for Avowed. Also, since you mentioned the fires in Southern California: for anyone with the ability and means to do so, do consider donating to vetted organizations helping out with the cause. LA Fire Department Foundation, LA American Red Cross, and Pasadena Humane Society are great places to start. If you're anything like me, after watching Mort's channel and getting his great recommendations over the years, you have enough beefy CRPGs in the backlog to last you for literal years at this point. So it probably wouldn't hurt to put some of that future Steam-sale money towards this, if you should feel so inclined.
Necessity really is the mother of invention. Congratulations for having completed this crazy feat! Hopefully we'll be soon-ish able to enjoy the hard working man's version of the Ultimate challenge, which might be even more interesting than expected "thanks to" your bad luck with those shops. Thanks for your videos!
Keeping fin gers crossed for timely Obsidian's approval!! Also, it's incredibly cool that you've found something new in a game that's several years old, congrats! Amazing video, I'm replaying Deadfire myself right now (definitely not The Ultimate though, lol) and I'd love to see some more highlights from you!
I’ve been watching your videos for a long time and have not commented before (that I can remember) but this sparked two things. One- this is insanely impressive. I wish my patience or skill level could take me through something like this. Two- a channel with uploaded playthroughs you do would be SICK. I’ve always wondered how you thrash these RPGs and seeing recorded playthroughs would be awesome and helpful. The best to you and yours Morty! Happy 2025.
That is actually incredible that you basically completed it, even if they haven't certified yet (and even if they say that one defeat wrinkle technically fails it). Congrats!
Grats, Mort! I'm pretty sure you are fine, it is how the game works, and they also stated that anyway how the game functions/ or reacts is good. So you might have been "defeated" cause it showed on the screen the game didn't register it. Gonna be waiting for your result as anxiously as i once did. Thanks for giving this some much deserved light, i'm reliving my experience vicariously through it.
Not gonna watch the entire video but gonna leave a comment instead. I'm currently in the middle of my first Pillars 2 playthrough so don't want to get spoiled on any fights or characters :P. Anyhow, congratulations on the achievement and I hope the verification goes well!
So cool you did this and I love hearing about it. Can't wait for more videos on this and avowed! so excited for that game I love the world they have made.
That is awesome that you have technically finished it and are only waiting for it to be verified. Hope you get an answer soon and I'm looking forward to your breakdown video the run.
This guy casually dropping in, saying „yo guys chill I’ve already beaten it lol, I also invented a completely new way of dealing with one of the hardest bosses in the game as well btw, ok bye“ is just legendary lmao
Honestly entirely forgot that Vela follows you around in one of the challenges. Really wish that they had done more with Vela, as the Watcher's 'daughter' and heir to Caed Nua, she could and should have been an interesting character in the game instead of being just there. Congrats on completing it though! I could never do anything like that so it is really impressive.
Big achievement even if it isn't verified, and even if it isn't, at least now you know how to do it. Really impressive, those challenges are hard as balls.
I'm 99% sure you will be fine. I have a verified Ultimate run in which I made myself untargetable for the majority of the run post level 16, most enemies literally didn't retaliate as I nuked them down. If you didn't use 3rd party cheats or save file exploits and make it to the end, anything goes.
How many of them are left? I've decided to take upon the challenge after Mort mentioned it in one of his videos and I finished The Ultimate in PoE 1. And now I am afraid I'll be too late cause he'll "popularize" it. :-) I had to "soft-quit" cause very little of what I knew about PoE 1 run is aplicable (and it's been a while) and the knowledge you have to acquire is massive, basically making me thinking about it every minute of my first playthrough. Which, as I've realized, spoils the fun out of the story. So now I have a chill, experimenting, suboptimal first run and I just hope there's gonna be some patches left when I finally arrive to the point of me attempting it. 🙂
Question? Are you planning to play ‘Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii’ this year? They had a showcase for it the other day and the game looks crazy stupid fun. It looks like a dozen games just mashed into one Yakuza game. In short it doesn’t look like a game I’ll 100% but just to play because it just looks insanely fun. Check out the showcase for it the other day. 1/9/25 is when it was.
I wanted to get into Pillars of Eternity 2 but I wanted to play Druid and it felt like Druid in Real Time all the CC-surface abilities like Entangle and such are so bad because enemies just instantly rush you into melee range before you even finish your cast so there is no sense of battlefield control like in Turn-based games. I tried the Turn-based mode but it feels terrible and not fun at all in this game, it is clearly designed to be played Real Time but it feels like one of the playstyles I like it's not viable at all in Real Time... Does anyone have any tips for this?
Unrelated and definitely not even original but Pillars games seem like the real sequels to BG world but money talks and Larian after DOS2 got to make it in their bubbly cheery way that they make crpgs. People will say BG3 is more polished but as far as I am concerned, it has too much jank POE2 is the more polished game as well. What BG3 has is things like verticality and a reactivity in the world but even in these, Obsidian definitely improved after POE1. Im just playing through BG3 again so I just had to spout these things...
It is much harder, honestly only the early game of Last Azlanti is hard and gets much easier later on. In the end game it's a walk in the park. While POE 2s Ultimate is constantly hard throughout the whole playthrough and requires huge concentration In the wiki it only lists 14 people who have completed the challenge compared to Last Azlanti which is hard but there are plenty of people on forums / Reddit that have completed it, including myself. Just reading through the restrictions of 'The Ultimate' gives me a headache and I would not dare challenge it. Not sure about Heart of WInter Icewind Dale though
Don't know about Icewind Dale, but it is definitely harder then WotR, in WotR one you get past the first Act you are (mostly) fine. PoE2 Ultimate has landmines all over the playthrough.
Hey is pillars 2 worth it on console I have a series x I see it as 3 stars and when I go to buy it it’s 4 stars so am worried it’s bugged on console. I also played the first game but I was getting my but kicked and I had to quit deleted my save since I forgot what was happening in the story and was looking forward to playing it again so I can get to the second game. I always looked at build guides for the second game through many creators and was wondering what people think of that. My setup was aumaua barbarian two handed and was thinking of trying out a dwarf rouge this game deserves the attention.
I have pillars 2 on ps4 and it runs good no game breaking bugs or anything, the only downside to console version is using a controller is crap in real time with pause but is ok in turn based mode. Other the that it’s 💯 playable on console.
if every crpg had the levels of presentation of baldurs gate 3 people would like the genre, being just dialogue in a box without basically any cutscenes at all really kills these games
Yes, please more PoE. This is the series that revived the CRPG and it does not get the respect it deserves.
I just wish this had sold better, it put the Obsidian boss off making any more apparently. I haven't finished PoE2 but so far it IS incredible, Larian deserve the praise they get but I think PoE1/2 got a little lost under BG3 and DoS2
PoE acronym already taken bub 😊
Played POE1/2 on gamepass a while ago, but bought POE2 on GoG in hopes of supporting the game's legacy.

Congratulations! As a long-time subscriber and a commenter of the previous video - I am happy to see that you completed The Ultimate!

Everything you’re planning on doing for your footage is so exciting and everything I was hoping for.

Do hope you get a reply soon for your run. To me your one of the best TRPG TH-camrs around and this be a crowning achievement for you.

Proper Otaku 😁. Wish I had the time to live the dream of challenge gaming!! Legend, thanks for another class video
With my attitude towards gaming, I can't imagine someone beeing more opposite from me than you. Respect.
can't wait to see the full run! :)
Even for you this is impressive. Very well done and I hope they accept your run.
Congrats! Super happy you finished this goal for yourself. I can't even imagine doing something like that.
Man I cannot wait for the next vid on this. Amazing!!
Thats what I love about crpg. Creativity, strategy and dedication

I keep my fingers crossed that Obsidian will confirm your run, but I have little doubt about it. Looking forward to the future videos on this 🙂
Awesome job on completeing the run. Hope it gets verified but even if you have to do it again, I know you will enjoy testing yourself one more time
Of course you completed the challenge! You are truly the blueprint for the meme MLG.
Completing the Ultimate: Amazing
Completing the Ultimate while running the most comprehensive review channel on TH-cam: Mindblowing!!
Congrats!
Cool stuff I was wondering how this was going since I was playing POE2 when you did the first video. Can't wait to see the playthrough
Nicely done! Congrats!

Hell yea dude, GG!
Those fires were horrendous. The 70-100mph winds that spread the fires were bad on their own and that did damage beyond LA county.
MortismalVODS would go crazy with my Monday deliverables lol☕️
I'm actually finishing up POE now, and hopefully can get deadfire done by avowed! I'm good enough to even think about this challenge though 😂
A commentary of the supercut, please!

We need POE 3!!!!
Both PoE are masterpieces. Its a pity that we will not get a sequel to end the trilogy :/

Is it harder than Last Azlanti Unfair WotR? Or Iron Man Heart of WInter Icewind Dale?

The very hardest is probably Wizardry 4 secret ending. But i am speaking by reputation, i am noy insane enought to try that.
Yeah most of the difficulty of last azlanti comes in the first chapter
Good luck, after the fact. 😛
Wow, just wow

Nice one, congrats, man. Was it a completionist run (like doing every single side quest and task)? If yes, how long was the total playthrough?

I loved POE2. None of this sounds fun.
