That first lock is over 4000 feet long, and a hundred years old...In the Muscle Shoals City Hall, there are pictures from it's construction. Steam Locomotives and 3 timbers used as a crane, and man with shovel power. North Alabama is lovely country. I know, I live here.

Yes the first lock I think is the tallest lock east of the Rocky mountains. It's been a beautiful side trip!

That lock was huge! We really enjoyed Alabama and will be back.
Lake side of Wilson lock doesn't swing open. It drops down. It's the only lock I've ever been in that does that.
It was pretty cool.
