    More than keeping your trees in exhibition, I believe you can create your own exhibition which everyone would love to visit! We are thankful to you and TH-cam for showing us this exhibition!
    The pots that Tom sent you are exactly the ones that I use for all my trees for maintaining uniformity..however, they are in multiple colors and I like adding colors to my collection!

      I made three violins, one of the most challenging and rewarding projects I've tackled! It took my a full year to make each one and they were all made by hand. I even made the finger board, the pegs, the bridge and the chin rest!

      Hi Nigel, I've always thought Bonsai were amazing. My daughter surprised me with a Hawaiian Rain tree. Of course I have very little understanding of Bonsai.
      I have no way of knowing how old my tree is or when I should be repotting it.
      I appreciate any help you could be to me.

    Hi Nigel, i fully endorse your pot policy. Expensive pots need that extra care.
    Sometimes when i see a bonsai expert or nursery destroy a cracked ceramic pot by breaking it with a hammer, it breaks my heart. So wasteful. If i was living nearby i would have gladly taken their cracked pots for free. For an amateur like me, they are still good. It can be fixed up with epoxy, painted over and the cracked portion can be turned to the back.

    • @VinnyChirayil
      @VinnyChirayil 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Here, leaving expensive ceramic pots outside is risky, as they would get stolen. Ditto for developed bonsai trees too. If i lived in an independent house (instead of an apartment), i would have built a grilled glasshouse on the roof to keep my trees & pots safe and private.

    The sound of a good pot sounds a lot like the sound of a good stone for flintknapping. It’s all about that high pitched ring, tells you there are no cracks or bad spots in it!

    hey Nigel! I don't know if you knew this but there is another species of Brazilian Rain Tree Called Chloroleucon tenuiflorum or Pithecellobium dumosum. It is a rough bark type of BRT and the plates on the bark can get very small which makes it great for bonsai. Maybe you can find some seeds in canada or I can try sending some to you when the seeds mature next year lol

    Pots have turned into sort of an obsession for me 😆 Last exhibition I went to here in Costa Rica my focus was on getting pots, but I ended up getting two trees 😇 A water jasmine and a Pircantha, looks like I'll continue to hunt for pots in my regular places and nurseries 🤷‍♂

    Excellent video and useful thoughts about pots even though I will not invest in anything expensive for many years.
    (I was also wondering what that dingling light reflection or dingling object could been that was visible for some parts of the video - maybe just me but it was taking away some focus on my side but it is hard to see when doing the recording I guess. Luckily you are so very inspiring so the video became good anyway. :) )

    I don’t know what it is about rectangular pots, but they irk me. I always lean towards round or oval. Just seems more natural for the tree to me.

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, the square pots have corners, which doesn't flow with a natural style as well. I think of rectangular pots as a picture frame, framing a slice of nature, the frame can be any shape.

But Its 6 to 7 aerial root goes down the soil. I pruned it's yesterday still it is 22 inch. If I hard pruned it then within 12 inch it has no leaves only branches
    If I keep it 16 inch then a few leaves I am getting . What should I do. Keep it 22 inch this year ya pruned it 16 inch ya 12 inch . I need help from you sir .How much height should I keep I can't decide and how can I get lot of branch and leaves in lower parts please help me . It's potted in simple loamy soil and organic fertilizer found here. ( Mustered cake dust, cow dung compost such as ). How can I stop Upward growth and downward branches and leaves. I recently pinch it but how tall ( height)
    Expecting a good suggestion urgent basis .

    Do you have any problems with chemicals from the roof leaching into your water? Ive been using tap water and im seeing white rings around my tree trunks this year.

    • @Parasoll9991
      @Parasoll9991 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s calcium from your tap water. Doesn’t look good, but won’t hurt your trees. You can take it off with a toothbrush.

  • @TheDcraft
    @TheDcraft 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Perhaps someone can help me out. I noticed all the pots are fairly shallow, which made me wonder what impact would using a deeper pot have on the tree?

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A deeper pot drains better, for trees with a well developed root system, shallow pots are fine because the tree uses all the water in the pot. A shallow pot requires careful watering, they can be too wet on the bottom and too dry on the top of the soil. You need a tree that can use all the excess water in the soil quickly to avoid root rot.

      It's hard, I really have to watch the watering, no drying out and not too wet! Once it goes outside for the summer, they are easier to take care of, inside in winter, very difficult, they need lots of light and cool temperatures.
