@@el_duderino_man thats a possible explenation for decline , but injuries seemed to fit the bill better in this case. You can't play well if you can't even stay healthy enough to play.

It's easy to forget just how good Tulo was in his prime. Same with David Wright. If not for injuries, both would have gone down as all-time greats at their positions

When Tulowitzki got the Cycle at Coors Field, it solidified his place as one of the best all-around shortstops in the MLB. Not only is he a gold glover, not only can he rake, but he also flew on the base paths. The envy of baseball. Now gone and forgotten. Truly tragic.
But you know thankfully he isn’t truly forgotten he’s gotten the respect of money as this whole comment section and video show
I didn't know getting the cycle makes you one of the best all around.
Coors Field is tied with Fenway for producing the most cycles, in spite of it being 87 years newer. Tells you something about the park's dimensions. That said, a sad career: he was always hurt.
Getting the cycle is an aberration of a game that is in love with stats, not something on the level of high skill. It's simply how the cards fell that night.
Not for nothing....But he did play for Colorado. Everyone hits in Coors Field. Look at Galarraga, L. Walker sheesh even Charlie Hayes once they played for the Rockies.
Dude was paid like a King's ransom in Toronto and barely played and then was paid to go away. I'll have that misfortune.

While he did get paid, nothing can replace the thrill of playing in The Show!
And they were stupid enough to pay him all that money, knowing that he was injury-prone. I laughed when I heard about the trade.

Thanks for the great video. Tulo was one of my favorite players ever. A true bada$$. Alas, his playing style and his position weren't conducive to injury recovery. Like many before him; a brilliant career cut short by injuries. Live long and prosper Troy. Enjoy the rest of your life.

Good video , thanks for that. Tulo was a great player and we loved him in Toronto. It was sad to watch his injury plagued years though, and one always had the feeling that he was only performing at half his potential because of the accumulated damage to his body. The ankle injury was a heart breaker.

Bauer is under contract for one more year. The Reds prospects were at least several years away, and the outfield is already full.
As a Toronto resident and big Jays fan , when I first heard we got him I was so excited and knew that if he could stay healthy he would help us bring that World Series title back . Then the moment came when he got injured and i knew it was over for him immediately . Such a talent , such a great guy , it's really sad when shit like this happens and injuries snuff out a player like him for good . Still love Tulo
I could watch tulos highlights for days he was smooth on defense. He made the jump throws look effortless. Not to mention his batting ability and playe discipline. Also great video

THIS! He didn't blimp up with unhealthy weight like some major leaguers - the guy simply had a bad string of injuries and bad luck. It's too bad because when he was healthy, he was one of the best of our generation. I hope he's able to retain a healthy lifestyle after retirement.

One special thing about Tulo is that he just hit so well on the road at the start of his career despite the hangover

There should be a "Tough Luck - (could'a/should'a) Hall of Fame" for the brilliantly great players whose careers were affected and cut short by injuries -- especially when the injuries occurred simply by having played the game so hard. Thanks, Troy, for giving us Rockies fans so many great and awe inspiring moments over a near 10 year span of time!

I was there when tulo injured his ankle, happy he got to play again after that but wish he had better luck with injuries! Truly a special talent that was plagued with the injury big sadly

A ton of players were really good over short careers and will not making it to the HOF. Albert Belle comes to mind. Rico Carty is another.

@Jaystar David Wright is a pretty good example of what I described in my first comment. I have to admit that when it comes to the HOF, I am kind of a purest. I think there are players in there now that should not be there. Tony Perez and Ralph Kiner come to mind.
Injuries from stepping on another player's foot are fairly common. To help prevent injruy to players either being stepped on (spiked) or players turning ankles by stepping on the 1st baseman's foot, the league needs to either adopt the little league odea of 2 bags, one for the runner and one for the 1st baseman OR elongate the 1st base bag horizontally somewhat to keep the 1st baseman's foot out of the running lane. It can be done and will prevent unnecessary injuries without greatly impacting the game.
I know this is old but Tulo will always be a star to me. During a hitting slump in high school I watched breakdowns on how Tulo fixed his swing and it helped immensely. Wish we could’ve seen more from him.
As a Jays fan it was such a delight to see him come to Toronto. Unfortunately it didn't work out but, I loved seeing him in the Jersey regardless.

Blue Marley Well Tulo did pick number 2 bc of Jeter, so it’s likely his game was inspired by Jeter too. Healthy Tulo was a better player imo though despite not having nearly as decorated of a career.

I think he brought the Jordan brand into the MLB... Jeter was the man.
Had other great hitters in the lineup over the years, but Tulo also had the Rocky Mountain advantage.

When Tulo came To Toronto, we all seen him as the star he was, and knew that trade was the catalyst to send the jays into serious contention, and it did. Although he was only here for a short time he was beloved, and forever will be, and is now part of the fabric of the history of the team. Toronto loved, loves and will always love Troy Tulowitzki!!!!!
Troy Tulowitzki is one of my favorite baseball players of all time and him and Matt Holiday are the reasons why the Rockies are my favorite team in the NL West

Dawson - I want to share a story that impressed me about Tulo. In 2007, Tulo's first full season in the majors, when the Rockies were battling the Dodgers trying to tie the Padres for the wildcard spot, Tulo was up to bat late in the game. He quickly went down 0-2 in the count, but stayed cool enough to earn a walk. I believe he went on to score. For a rookie to battle like he did in an at-bat as important as that was phenomenal. That was the moment it was clear he would be a star.
I'm a die hard Rockies fan through and through. Tulo was truly a unique and special player. Going to games and watching him play was amazing. It was sad to see him leave to the Jays the way he did. But injury after injury really was his downfall. If it wasn't for the injuries, he would be the best shortstop in baseball history without a doubt. He would be talked about in the circle of greats like Derek Jeter. If Rockies knew how to get some pitchers and a solid bullpen, players like Tulo would get the recognition they deserve. Extremely talented player for a subpar organization that has made bad move after bad move. I hope this isn't the same foreshadow future for Nolan Arenado and Charlie Blackmon...

I still remember when he was first called up in 2006. I liked him as a player, but hated playing against him as a Giants fan, especially from 2007-10.
tulo was a constant on my fantasy team, great talent. sad that injuries derailed his career...he was a young jeter essentially.

My favorite player of all time. People would always think i wore #2 because of jeter but it was because of Tulo instead.
As someone that watched the Jays a ton in 2015 and 2016, it was a revelation to have Tulo play shortstop after Jose Reyes and his awful defense that season. He wasn't as great as he once was, but he could still make the difficult plays and more importantly for that team, made all the routine plays that you should make that Reyes would screw up.
It sucks that he couldn't stay healthy. That 2014 season would have been one for the ages had he not gotten hurt.
