In an interview Saiki talked about the lyrics she wrote for this song. Short version. She was looking at music history, found songs and stories that had been forbidden but were now being recreated using new tech. Found inspiration from them and then wondered if long after she is gone if people will also be inspired by their music. Take the lyrics as being about connecting with someone from the past through their art and also connecting through your own art with someone in the future.
On the 100th listen it still gets me too - maybe even more. And that's typical for me - I just love their songs more and more as I keep listening to them. That I think is genius songwriting.
Leo, it's the Band-Maid "Pigeon-Hole". Why, you ask? Miku Kobato, the band's founder, rhythm guitarist and vocalist, considers herself the reincarnation of an 810 year old pigeon. Kobato means "small pigeon" in Japanese. She ends all her sentences with "po" which is considered pigeon speech in Japanese culture. In Japan anime characters that considering themselves as cats say meow at the end of every sentence. Thus, getting fully immersed in Band-Maid's music is considered jumping down the "Pigeon-Hole".
Great reaction. I am so happy when I see young women discovering Band Maid. So many more need to see and hear this incredible group of young ladies. They are great roll models for everyone but especially for the younger people today. Thank you.
Wonderful reaction, this song leaves me breathless and the ending makes me tear up, it is just so great. Thanks for reacting to Band-Maid, you're helping spread the word about Band-Maid around the world. For another great location, try the Official MV for "Manners". Women in rock in Japan are taking over the world.
Welcome home Princess Leo! I hope you are having a wonderful day. It is great seeing you reacting to Band Maid again. Please take care and I hope you have an amazing week!
Leo, I think the next set of Band-Maid songs you should react to are "Manners/Black Hole", a two-fer official live video, which shows their hard rock versatility. "Moratorium", the official live video from the Tokyo Zepp Theatre, and "Wonderland", the official live video are two other songs that show their talent and musical versatility.
If you are going to concentrate on women in rock, you could spend years just in Japan. There is also Nemophila, Hanabie, Nek!, Love Bites, Gacharic Spin, Asterism. I am sure others will add to this list. Also, if you like punk rock, check out Otoboke Beaver.
Thank you for your wonderful reaction. It is said that they, as well as many other Japanese rock groups, have brought about changes in rock music. Please come and enjoy many Japanese rock groups.
Nice Mastodon comparison. Brann Dailor, along with Danny Carey have been my favorite drummers for a long time. Akane joined their elite company IMO with the 'Freedom' OLV and she's only gotten better since then.
Welcome home beautiful princess! Po! 🎉🎉🎉 Every Band Maid song is my favorite song. Their rock never dies ever, forever! Po!🐦 My heart remains entranced! ❤❤❤ Resistance is futile! 🤣🤣🤣 Band Maid will Dominate the world!!! Kurrupo! Po!
Great vid (and your lighting is fine!). I think in some ways with this song, it's good if you've heard the song by itself before doing a react to the MV - because I've seen a lot of reactors get so caught up in the full amazing-ness of the song, that they miss how poignant and beautiful the vid was, and how it worked so well with the ideas Saiki was playing with in these lyrics, and how it all fit together.
The songs already released earlier in the year are just Band-Maid awesomesauce! The six new songs are so tightly integrated and complex, it's going to take a Tokyo minute to assimilate. But I already love Forbidden Tale, and especially The One. 😉🤘 btw - We should all wish a "Good Luck" to Band-Maid's new self-run management company: Maidit, Co., LTD! Will they managing other bands, boost Cluppo and Maiko projects, or tour more internationally? Or maybe they will expand their business interest to other sectors of the music biz outside of Band-Maid. I believe Kanami wants to get more into composing, scoring and production. And as for Miku and Saiki, the sky's the limit for what they'll want to do in merch, fashion and art, etc.. Thx, Leo!
Salut Léo. Powerful song, inspiring philosophical lyrics and video made like a movie. Masterpiece. Your idea of reacting to female artists or female bands is relevant. Music is an important subject for their freedom of expression. Rock is not an exclusively male affair.😉
For the best audio fidelity, you really should use wired, open back over the ear headphones. Wireless earbuds and headphones use compression which clips and squeezes the top and bottom end of the music. And closed back headphones don't allow for proper bass response. And I feel like this song is a mini symphony with 5 movements due to how the song changes up as it progresses.
Such a great song with a powerful message, music can be amazing and Band-Maid is one of the best bands at it right now. Lovely reaction Leo! They tend to be a bit "conservative" with their MV, i guess their top priority is to make the music do the talking. But they have some exceptions, such as "Don't you tell ME", "After Life" or "Warning!" to name a few
Very entertaining reaction to this wonderful band. I just returned from Japan and was fortunate to attend two of their OKUJIs while there. They are terrific live and attending concerts in Japan is like no other experience. If you are interested in checking out something quite different then you might enjoy the band Regal Lily. They are an all female Japanese band that formed in 2015 while in high school and placed second among over 3,000 bands in a rock band competition for teen bands.. Their songs are a mixture of shoegaze-pop combined with powerful guitar distortions, dreamlike vocals and introspective lyrics (but in Japanese😅). The lead singer/guitarist has an unusual voice that becomes pleasant to the ears after getting used to it 😄. Their new songs Tenkirin (MV) and Twinkling Ash (MV) are representative of their growth and would be a good introduction to Regal Lily. Arigato Leo 🙏.
This song and the Maids new album is just impeccable!!! 👌💪❤🔥 Leo, I recommend some women...I think REAL Punk spirit, uncompromising, will make you smile...try the 'Don't Light My Fire' MV by Otoboke Beaver 👊🤣🥳👌🤘🤘🤘
Leo I really enjoy your reactions.I think you would really enjoy a couple of music vids they did in traditional geisha outfits in great settings great photo work and grat versions of songs. Check secret lips!!!
I think you need some East of Eden in your life -- check out their latest video, "Cross Roads". Elegance, sophistication, a violin, and they rock hard. And check out Trident -- "Cry Out" is an amazing song.
8:59 ‘’ABANDONED! WHAT?”🙀…… awww I see, you come back for revenge bcux EN made you cry last time and you are calling Them STINGY MAIDS😚🤣🤣 . 🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♂️ They love saving 💰, They will do it on the beach/ in the jungle (where no need to pay/spend) or borrowing some1 abandoned warehouse or have you seen the WHITE ROOM(that save lots of money😏👍😁) but at least They didn’t do FORBIDDEN TALE in a abandoned warehouse 😅. Anyway Long TIME no SEE. HOW ARE YOU?. HEY LEO OJOU-SAMA, YOU DEFINITELY NEED TO CHECK OUT BAND MAID #1 SonG ‘START OVER’ (money back guarantee).byE BYe 👋 see YOU
As a long-time Maidiac, may I recommend: www.youtube.com/@Ohrenje. I also suggest these bands for your consideration: Nemophila, Gacharic Spin, Lonesome Blue, NEK!, Rolling Quartz and DHI!
As you said that you want to watch different women bands, I will give you some ideas: Gacharic Spin (I wish I - they have MV and Live version, both are amazing). East of Eden (This moment They have only MVs by now) and Lovebites - Soldier Stands Solitarily - live version please) - These are the Japanese groups that I follow. Another one that is totally different is Atarashii Gakko no leader - this is an energetic four member singers and dancers that has a critical message about Japanese culture in a funny ligth and pop way.

I still feel so emotional listening to this song and watching the MV. Have heard it so often but it still gets me.

Same with me.

Thankyou for the fun reaction Princes Leo!
❤🔥❤🔥
This band reminds me so much of Yes in their heyday. They are so far ahead of their time.
The lyrics of this song have a deep meaning, so it's better to watch it with English subtitles

Trident would be another great Japanese all female band to check out.

Scandal 15th Anniversary Show
Yep, and add Glim Spanky and Tricot. They are not all female though. Band-Maid though to me is in a league of their own. My favorite band maybe ever.
Great video! I saw them tonight at Zepp Haneda. Pure talent... Just incredible!
Masterful songwriting and storytelling 🔥❤️🤘 Band-Maid forever ❤️

Thanks so much lovely reaction!
This song really rocks but it tugs on the emotions much like “ Daydreaming”.
Fans in Japan have already geolocated the locations within Japan.
