    (7:14) Baader offers three diagonals with 2" female SCT threads that can directly screw onto a 2" SCT back that appear shorter the TeleVue SCT to 2" adapter you have shown. They all accept 2" eyepieces. Celestron also offers one. Baader also offers for diagonals with T2 connections that could be paired with their short 2" SCT female to T2 female prisms. Finally Baader offers a 2" ClickLock connector with 2"SCT female threads that is 10mm shorter than the Televue SCT to 2" adapter shown. Not sure any of these options is short enough to avoid interference at the zenith
    but all appear to be improvements.

      I think the Baader setup you talk about would clear. I do have an Orion SCT thread diagonal that almost clears but not quite with lighter eyepieces. With heavy 2" wide fields I'm sure it should just clear as the tube would sit higher to balance. Overall the 6" does not suffer from this issue at all and is a better fit for the mount. Gives you room/extra capacity to rig the scope how you like, with whatever you like 👍

    Could I take a Celestron Evo 6 and mount it to a Skywatcher GTI?

    Vlad, you are spot on, as usual. Great detail in your video!
    The OTAs are identical except for the paint. Built-in wifi is a big plus of the Evo mount, for sure. Clutches, meh. Future proof award goes to the Evo mount.
    That said I'm very satisfied with the Nexstar mount aided by external wifi module. NexStar 6SE is currently on sale for $999. I'm trying it out with a low cost EAA camera and the tracking of the NexStar mount is just as good as the EVO, I'm sure.
    Thanks for all you give to us amateurs!!!

    Single fork mounts vibrate like a tumble dryer when focusing at high magnification. An electric focuser is essential IMHO. You can simply fit the diagonal with an SCT connection eliminating the need for a visual back. This clears the mount at the zenith.

    • @AVTAstro
      @AVTAstro  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Idk, I do not have an issue with focusing at hight power. But this is also why I think that as a package the 6" model is better. Just a better fit for the mount.

    This may sound strange, but ive got the HD version. So it has a Starsense camera mounted on it. Also i use it with a 2” eyepiece or binoviewers. It therefore allows me to slide the telescope forward on the vixen dovetail bar. I can see you have at least 10cm out. Mine is perfectly balanced with only 1cm showing at the rear. Thats how far forward mine sits on the mount (I’m sure this is because its heavy at the rear as compared to yours). This allows me to reach zenith with a 2” star diagonal easily.

    • @AVTAstro
      @AVTAstro  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Very cool! Yeah those HD scopes are pretty rare. I have not seen too many around.

  • @jsladenumuno
    @jsladenumuno 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    C8 evo was my first. Big problem for me was the red dot. You need a RACI unless you get the Starsense thing (which is outrageously expensive, but it does work). Smaller problem: the tripod sucks. SCTs are not great but they are very flexible, especially with the cheap focal reducer they sell.
    I hate the wifi (switching it off made the mount work more reliably), and its sort of annoying how loud the slews are. The clutch thing is useful, but you can't really use it for casual viewing. More like point and one-star/solar system align. If it was a stiction clutch it would be amazing though.

    • @AVTAstro
      @AVTAstro  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Lol, funny you say that about the red dot. I run that exact red dot on all my scopes including my $5000+ refractors. Love the sinplicity!
      I think finders are a very personal preference. 👍

      I'm sure it is. But you can also power the scope with an external battary as well.

    Hello @AVTAstro, I am in a big dilemma, I am beginner and I have started with a 4inch fpl51 doublet, I live in bortle6 but I have easy access to bortle4 (20 minutes drive). I will eventually upgrade, now the puzzle, I need it to be portable without long cooling time (most of the times I have max 3 hours to spare), general use (planets and DSO, I'd love some bright globulars) and lightweight. I looked at SW 120mm Pro ED, then C8 (until I noticed the cooling time wow), then maybe C6 will be big enough for some DSOs?....or a good old 4inch FPL53....decisions...decisions. How would you approach this dilemma ?
    Thank you for the very informative channel

    • @AVTAstro
      @AVTAstro  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'd say that for what your using the scope for I'd do a 4-5" Triplet APO. If you want to than get more into visual dso add a 12" dob. 1 telescope just can't do it all unfortunately. Hope this helps!

    Until now I only had refractors but because I want to be able to see galaxies better I was thinking about buying an 8 inch SCT. But I wonder approximately how often such an SCT falls out of collimation ? Approximately how ofter does an 8 inch SCT need to be collimated ? I would only have to move it from a room to another, I wouldn't travel with it.

    • @AVTAstro
      @AVTAstro  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you're moving it short distances I highly doubt you would need to collimate it more than once a year if that.

    Hi Vlad. Great video and explaination.
    I was wondering that you mentioned on your AVT-Astro blog that the one only telescope if you could own just one would be the 8" EdgeHD SCT. Well what would be the size high-end APO refractor doublet - keeping weight and cooling down, that you would need to get the same performance on Planets? Thanks!

    • @AVTAstro
      @AVTAstro  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      A good 5" APO is about as good on the planets as an 8" SCT. 👍

    I'm trying to talk my son into getting the 8" Evolution and I pointed out to him the hand control is quite similar to the Nexstar SLT 127 Mak hand control I bought him.
    Vlad, the 8" Evolution mounts I've seen for sale come with 1.25" diagonals and clears the mount.

    • @AVTAstro
      @AVTAstro  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, it does come with a 1.25" diagonal. Sorry if the video was not clear on this but I was talking about if you want to upgrade to a 2" setup.

      @jamesdougan8789 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      i have the evo mount with the 8"edge hd and even with the 1.25 diagonals it still hits the base with the extra length needed of the original visual back of the 8" edge hd

    • @MountainFisher
      @MountainFisher 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jamesdougan8789 Seriously? So it cannot hit Zenith. What an asinine design by Celestron, would have to install a longer Vixen bar. Guess I'll get it on the VX mount.

    • @jamesdougan8789
      @jamesdougan8789 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MountainFisher the standard C8 dose not have that problem its only the edge HD as they have a extra lens for flattening the field and need more back focus to obtain focus as most evo mounts are sold with the standard C 8 or C6 scope. you dont get that problem if your son is only going to do visual a alt az mount is better than a equatorial mount as you don't have the eyepiece at odd angles that you have to adjust for with every new target if he is going into imaging (say a prayer for your wallet surviving lol) then i would suggest a skywatcher EQ6 R pro that mount will perform very good tracking and will last for many years and menny scopes and sizes much better than a avx mount. you will save $ in the long run and have better everything mount wise

    Hi Vlad. I appreciate your videos. Though I'm not particularly interested in either of these OTA's, as a purely visual observer I've sometimes wondered whether a computerized alt-az mount such as the iOptron Pro Go To might be worth the money for my small refractors, 80mm to 110mm. My Losmandy G11 is more than I need for visual observations with a small refractor.

    • @AVTAstro
      @AVTAstro  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      As someone that uses g11's as my primary mount I can certainly say that yes a lighter alt-az goto mount is much easier to haul around. I think it would be a great match for smaller APO!
