Picked a 6" up "used" in 2019 right before the lockdowns for $580. The shop owner said the guy who traded it in bought it brand new put 18 rounds through it didn't like it so he traded it in. For what I don't know. It was clean as a whistle and didn't have amark on it so I definitely got myself a good deal.
Guns in cali are so much. Sometimes old/vintage is cheaper when the owner doesnt know, but then the shop will mark if up. Ive gotten a few good deals but nothing stellar. U recommend the small shops? What state?
Hi from Pennsylvania buddy Jeff . What a bueatiful revolver. I absoutly love rugers. They are very tough and shoot straight. I love my my security 6 4" 357. God bless you and your family. As always and expected damm good shooting. Tell your son. Hes very lucky to still have a father like you. God bless my friend.Pennsylvania buddy Jeff. 😊😊
I scored a satin stainless Ruger GP100 Wiley Clapp about 6 years ago for around $600 when I worked at a gun shop. It's absolutely my favorite revolver, and one of my favorite guns period!
This is one of my first guns, left to me by my father. It's a hand cannon and a beast for sure, you can slap a scope on this bad boy and easily go hunting with it. the 357 Magnum round is no joke. It will always hold a special sentimental place in my heart after I learned the gun was made the exact year I was born and my mother confirmed that dad bought it when I was born as family protection. Love ya Mixup, You rock!
My GP100 (that I purchased in the eighties) has finally reached its full potential! I have installed Wilson combat hammer and trigger springs and polished(not filed) the sear engagement surfaces as well as the hammer dog, ( gotta be careful with the dog, ask me how I know?). Micro stainless steel hammer shims have been installed bringing the hammer function into the realm of a competition revolver and hammer centering on both sides of the hammer at full cock is to within .001 inches. Hogue PAU FERRO CHECKERED grips! It now operates in single action as slick as Teflon coated BB's rolling down a sheet of plate glass. The trigger is an exceptional 2.2 lbs. in single action. Double action is so smooth and slick it is mind blowing. My accuracy with this amazing weapon has improved with these refinements to the point that I now hunt whitetails with it here in West Texas using handloads loaded to the 357 MAXIMUM Configuration. Double Tap 200GR HARDCAST SOLID with a custom cannelure rolled into the bullet and set out to 357 Maximum length allowing my load of H110 to push it out to screaming velocities. This is the round I will carry in my Alaskan hunt! DO NOT USE ANY GUN BUT A RUGER FOR THE 357 MAXIMUM! Careful load development is key with this round as well as watching your primers for signs of over pressure. 58,000 is max pressure for this gun and round, my loads are way under on this Max load!
I've heard these run like a tank. Durable to handle even stoutest of 357 magnum loads and just run forever. Glad you got another good deal at the pawn shop. You and your son will put it to great use! 🎯🇺🇸👍👍
Same here bud.. I live in n Ca. everything is wet and muddy...But soon I'll get out there.. Yes, i was thinking of getting a good old single action ruger in 44 mag maybe a 5 or 6 inch... stainless or blue doesn't matter..When I ride up and check our property up in the mendocino Forest it's easier than lugging a rifle.,. You never know when you'll come across some varmint..2 or 4 legged...@@ADRay1999
550 is unheard of around here. It's almost absurdly low. I've got a 2004 4" stainless and a 1987 4" in black. I love your show and tell today. Thank you
My grandmother gave me the last guns my grandfather owned when he passed away 33 years ago. A GP100 and a Remington 1100. I might get the GP100 out and shoot a box now that I watched you video.
I picked up the same model revolver today at my LGS for $500. It was used, but the salesman and I both agreed that it appears to have never been fired. There was no carbon scoring to be found anywhere on the cylinder! The barrel was immaculately clean and free of any signs of carbon rings. The timing and lockup was precise and without any wiggle or play. I actually went into the store looking for a Remington 870, but walked out with the GP100. I'm looking forward to my next Range day! Great video, sir!
I've got that same exact pistol, except I have the Hogue grip. It's a sweetheart, and I trust it enough to keep it as my bedside piece. I paid just over $600 for mine (new) a couple years ago. I can't believe they've gone up that much!
I was told by the gun shop owner in MA way back in 1989 that it cost about $28.00 to manufacturer a new Design Ruger GP-100 Stanless Strrl 6" barrel. I sold for $320.00 with $5.00 rebate check from Ruger in 1989.
A 4" stainless Ruger GP100 in .357 Magnum is one of those "if you could only have one handgun" type of guns. They can do it all, and they're very tough. A few years back a family I know gave all their kids (all girls BTW) GP100s for Christmas. That same year, the dad got a Super Redhawk in .454 Casull with the 9-1/2" barrel and the gun-metal gray finish (it was still available back then). Good times!
Have yet to add a revolver to my collection, and I've always wanted a 357, and you just help me decide that this is going to be it, thanks. BTW @ 6:14. hitting that 4x4 at 50 yards is a heck of a shot.
I love my 1988 manufactured Ruger GP100 4" bbl in .357 Mag! It's the only firearm I named - Juliet. I had to replace the rubber on the grip after it got hard and slick, but Ruger sells just the rubber, so it was like getting a new pistol.
I own the Talo Edition of the 6 inch GP100! My first magnum revolver I brought in my early/middle twenties! A timeless piece! One of my favorites as well! I'm yet to get a 7 inch Talo Edition 686 Plus to add to my collection as well!
I have found the GP100 to be accurate and have a high value. I did dry fire mine a lot. This married up the action really nice. I don’t think I have shot single action from it for years. Ruger in their instructions tells you that dry firing is perfectly fine and you do not need snap caps. Other manufacturers may not have this in the manual for their product. Always follow the manual that correlates with the firearm.
I brought one GP-100 SS 6" barrel from pawn shop in TN for $325.00 five years ago. I sold it two years ago for $500.00 . I had 2 more when I swap it with my blew up Police Speed Six in 1988 for $288.00 each new with 6" barrel SS. I love GP-100 on the day one when it came out in 1988. I brought Security Six long time ago for $200.00 each new in 1988.
I keep thinking about switching to S&W revolvers but every time I get out my 6" stainless GP 100 I end up falling in love with it again! Great pawn shop find and great review, thanks.
When I bought mine back in '89, I checked out the S&Ws as well. They just were not as tight as the Ruger back then. They may be better now. I haven't held a S&W revolver since '89.
I love my 4" GP only wish it was the 7rd version but other than that incredibly robust revolver, it will be around long after me i can tell 👍🏾 it will keep my children and their children safe
That is a hell of a buy for $550! When you run across a buy like that, you have to buy it! That beauty is in still good shape. I don’t find deals like that often around here where I live I’ve did once at a gun show I walked in somebody had just Traded a gun they just put it on the table. I have not yet to find a GP 100 but I did get an SP 101 I’m still looking.
NICE DEAL ON A BEAUTIFUL REVOLVER.I PICKED UP A THREE SCREW BLACKHAWK 357 WITH A 6.5 INCH BARREL MADE IN 1971.GREAT CONDITION AND VERY ACCURATE.CAN’T BEAT A RUGER REVOLVER.
I always really enjoy the 2 of you together. You and my dad were made from the same block. Both great fathers. And I can tell you I was the little hellion and got a few likings. All justly deserved.😊😊😊 God bless.from Pennsylvania Jeff.
Wow, thank you Jeff! Sorry about the late response. I have been on vacation and just found your comment. I was also a little hellion when I was much younger 👍😁 God bless.
Awesome collection ! My wife has her mother’s blued security-six in mint condition with box and I have both blued and stainless 4 inch GP-100 revolvers and I bought those two new over 8 years ago but not at the same time. Prices have really went up on Ruger firearms recently ! Have a Blessed Day in Southern Nevada 🇺🇸⚡️TCB⚡️
You can't go wrong with a GP100. It may a bit chunkier than a S&W 686 but it'll last forever. You got a fantastic deal and that's a nice Ruger collection. I nearly bought a GP100 as my first gun but went with a Ruger SR1911 Government for the same money. I'm a Ruger fan and a GP100 6" is on my to-own list.
Awesome video you guys, years ago I found a gp100 and a Blackhawk both 357 mag. On excellent condition for 399 dollars so I snagged both and I'm glad I did, take care and stay safe.👍
I bought a Redhawk in .357 like yours back in the 80s' and gave it to my Dad. He had it for years until he took it to the range and shot if for the first time, when the cylinder blew up on him. Fortunately, he wasn't hurt. He contacted Ruger and they had him send it in, and gave him a brand new Redhawk in .44 Magnum. They told him that they stopped making them in .357 because a high percentage of them in that caliber had defective metallurgy in the cylinder and blow ups were all too common. I'm glad yours isn't one of those.
In 40 years of shooting rugers including. 44 magnum I've never heard of a common problem of any model blowing up period. Interesting story tho I'll have to look it up.
I got my last one (Blued) at the local pawn & gun. $550. Just installed a hi vis front site on it yesterday. First owner just broke it in for me! Had a significantly smoother trigger than a new one. Love these beasts!
Excellent video! I do love Ruger revolvers. I'd love to get my hands on a Redhawk that beautiful I have a four inch stainless security six made in 1980. It's part of my permanent collection now, of course. I have rubber grips on mine, but I like your wood grips better I think. Thanks for the video! I really like watching your content
Having 1 nice Ruger beats having 10 of your cheap /off brand guns. Look forward to shooting quality and also future $$$ appreciation. Love the videos !
A 7-rounder GP100! I'm extremely jealous. Maybe I will find a nice used one in a pawn shop someday. I would like to thank you for being a six year subscriber to my channel.
You get a thumbs up because you pick up your brass (and other trash). Even though I have never been to your shooting area, I have been to enough that were trashed by shooters who did not clean up after themselves. From what I understand, this is the reason that the Forest Service closed the three outdoor shooting areas in Los Angeles County, where I live. Now the only option is to pay for time at an indoor range. Thanks again for setting a good example. Have a beer on me!
That’s a beautiful revolver. I found my 6” blued GP-100 on consignment at a S. Nevada gun shop about 15 years ago. I paid just over $300 for it. It’s one of my favorite guns.
That was a steal of a deal. I paid somewhere near 750ish for GP100 blued 6 inch barrel maybe 8 or so years ago. Definitely a great revolver and very beautiful.
I recently bought a GP100, 7-shot, 6", with the green I prefer green over red) fiber front sight. Absolutely LOVE IT!! Paid around $800. I've put a "Tamer" grip on it because it feels better in my hand. Not sure why I bought it. Just one of those things...😉😄
I have the same gun, shipped in 1990. Your particular firearm, by serial number, was shipped in 2014. They are some of the best double action revolvers EVER produced. Edit: Sorry, I commented before watching the video.
Had a Speed Six in .357 and an old Model Blackhawk. Currently have the GP100 in stainless with a 6" barrel. Just replaced the front sight with a Hi-viz. Helps with old eyes and helps take advantage of the inherent accuracy of this fine gun....
Very nice selection of double action ruger revolvers , they looks sweet. Saw a blued security six with a 5.5 inch barrel at a show. I have my dad's single six with 22 magnum cylinder, and my super Blackhawk 44 . Good to see you guys out shooting together, thanks for taking us along
That is an awesome gun. I have a 1990 just like it. What brand type 38 amo to you recommend for this gun? You always have the best guns & videos. You and your kids are great.
Hello Thomas. I shoot a lot of my own reloaded ammo through my GP100 but when I use factory ammo it is usually Remington or Federal for target practice and Hornady hollow point ammo for self-defense.
Almost got a blued 7.5" Redhawk .44 at my lgs for $550, it was either a safe queen or someones hunting backup absolutely gorgeous no turn line. Start the paperwork the salesman (who I actually like) stops and says oh this has already been sold not sure why its on the floor... One of those things that made me think he wanted it himself just based off remarks he made beforehand. Never had that happen before and rarely go back there unless I'm bored and am in the area. Love your videos keep em coming!
Great score, and great video. I have a SS Security Six 6” bbl. that I love. It has the short shroud like your 4” without the full lug bbl. and is much lighter to carry than the full lug GP-100. Always with me on woods roaming and hunting trips.
43 Years later and that Security Six is still a Beauty! Great find at the Pawn Shop for the GP 100 as well. I have a 3 inch GP with a gutter rear and pinned front. May put an XS on it... Don't care for the ramp! "Jr." won on the "DNA LOTO"!!! He got a great POPS and a REDHAWK too!!!
Hi from your Ole buddy in Pennsylvania. As always awsome. And what a nice Ruger . I love Ruger revolvers. My ruger is a security 6 4" .357. And I love it. God bless. You have some really nice Rugers. A very nice collection. My other rugers are single actions. 22 to 44 mag. And as expected good shooting. 😊😊😊
I recently picked up a GP 100 in 10mm from a local pawn shop. I did not even know they chambered 10mm until I saw it. Great shooting fun with a big bore in a medium frame revolver.
I bought mine new in 2011, same stainless model as yours, for $595. I've since replaced the Hogue grip with a new pair of Altamont grips, and finally last year got around to replacing that atrocious black-blade front sight with a fiber optic one. Of course, shortly after I bought it, Ruger came out with the stainless .44 Special model, and I whiffed on it. 😩 Those things are VERY collectable today. $$$ I love this gun, and I only really shoot full-bore magnums out of it. I stick to Buffalo Bore 125gr. loads and they give a nice boom with fireball. Not fun to shoot for extended periods, but for 15 to 20 rounds, that's enough fun for me lol. Not sure what I could sell it for today, but it's irrelevant....this thing ain't going nowhere!
This one gets an enthusiastic and misty-eyed thumbs up. WAY back when I was first getting into law enforcement, a dear friend of mine who was also getting into the biz went shopping with me for out starting guns. I got a Browning Hi-Power. He got a then brand new to the market Ruger GP100. We shot them ... a lot ... and I shot his a lot. I said if I had to buy a dedicated .357 to take a steady diet of magnums, I wanted a GP100. My friend died a few years back, I have no idea what happened to his guns. But this video brought back some nice memories. He'd be thrilled. :)
@@mixup98 - I do indeed! It was my first duty weapon as a sworn officer (dispatched and reserved 'til then). It is sitting beside my bed now (RIA 1911 on the other side). Over the years the BHP had a minor action job and you can feel right as that sear slips. Very accurate even to this day and even after countless 9BPLE rounds through it.
Man, I wish we had pawn shops like that around here. Nice find
No kidding!
I'll third that.
Wow! Great find, and awesome review.

I got my last one (Blued) at the local pawn & gun. $550. Just installed a hi vis front site on it yesterday. First owner just broke it in for me! Had a significantly smoother trigger than a new one. Love these beasts!
Great video!
Love the GP 100!
I have a blue 4" one. I love it!
Built like a tank!
Love the vids with you and your boys. I had a GP100 at one time... 6" model. Built like a bank vault. Congrats on you find - 2 years late lol.
I have the stainless 6" model & it's my favorite gun I own.
Love my 6” Ruger Gp100 stainless.
Great find. A 6" Stainless GP100 was my first revolver. Later I acquired a 4" blued one. Really like it too.
I have several Rugers. One is the Police Service Six .357. Shoots great. Thanks for another fun video, guys. Keep 'em coming and keep safe!
Excellent video! I do love Ruger revolvers. I'd love to get my hands on a Redhawk that beautiful
I have a four inch stainless security six made in 1980.
Having 1 nice and 10 off brands is better, friend. Don't want to put that beaut in the terlet lol
@@dgunearthed7859 How about having 2 nice and zero cheap/off brands?
@paulbrungardt9823 I realized long ago no matter what I said on here I'd be wrong. So ill just agree and shut up
I purchased a Ruger GP100 357 Magnum 7 rounder. Nice firearm. Enjoy your videos.
A 7-rounder GP100! I'm extremely jealous. Maybe I will find a nice used one in a pawn shop someday. I would like to thank you for being a six year subscriber to my channel.
@@mixup98 Thank you for your reply. Hope you can locate a 7 rounder. Stay safe.
I wish we had pawn shops in my Philadelphia area like you have in Nevada!
That's a really nice little ruger and great price !
I carried a security six as an Armed security guard in the 90s
thanks for the video !
You are very welcome and thank you for watching our video.
Excellent review! Ruger is a fine maker of pistols, revolvers and rifles. I have several in my collection.
3:07 pm. I sure do like yall's videos. They're fun and informative. Thank you
You are very welcome and we thank you for the great feedback.
I have a blue 4” Security Six from 1981 as well. Great guns.
I recently bought a GP100, 7-shot, 6", with the green I prefer green over red) fiber front sight. Absolutely LOVE IT!! Paid around $800. I've put a "Tamer" grip on it because it feels better in my hand. Not sure why I bought it. Just one of those things...😉😄
my first gun - and still have it 25 years later.....
it was a bargain at $325
I was fortunate to get one of the last 7-shot GP100s before it fell off the roster. Was about $780 after fees and taxes.
Another pawn shop beauty! Good catch Mixup!
Nice find but I prefer the old Security Six because it is lighter. The Redhawk is a gem if you can find one used at a decent price.
The Security Six is definitely lighter and I love carrying it on my hip when I'm out in the desert exploring old gold mines and mining camps.
I have the same gun, shipped in 1990. Your particular firearm, by serial number, was shipped in 2014.
They are some of the best double action revolvers EVER produced.
Edit: Sorry, I commented before watching the video.
Ruger certainly hit a home run with the GP100 and you're right, it is one of the best revolvers ever produced. Mine will belong to my son someday.
@@mixup98...and your grandchildren and their grandchildren!
I have the same revolver and I think I paid around $600 five years ago. Great firearm.
Same here, $600 same gun
Score !!!!! ,
Well done sir , nice aquisition
Had a Speed Six in .357 and an old Model Blackhawk. Currently have the GP100 in stainless with a 6" barrel. Just replaced the front sight with a Hi-viz. Helps with old eyes and helps take advantage of the inherent accuracy of this fine gun....
Very nice selection of double action ruger revolvers , they looks sweet. Saw a blued security six with a 5.5 inch barrel at a show. I have my dad's single six with 22 magnum cylinder, and my super Blackhawk 44 . Good to see you guys out shooting together, thanks for taking us along
Another nice find to worship at the altar of guns.
@@mixup98 Thank you. I truly hope you and your loved ones are doing well.
Awesome sidearms !! Always enjoy your vids !!
Thank you Larry....much appreciated.
To me , the best looking revolver . I own a sp101 with a shaved hammer but this thing is so nice .
I bought one brand new for $550 several years ago. Came with the Hogue grips so i switched them out with the ones you have on that one. Wonderful gun.
From one desert rat to another I appreciate you stating that you pick up your brass. Nice review on a nice revolver.
The GP-100 is a great firearm. I have a 6 inch and like it very much. Thanks for the video.
Hello Jeff. Yes indeed, I love my Ruger firearms and it sounds like you have a nice collection of them too. 👍👍
Great price, I looked at one just like that yesterday at the gun shop it to was used and the price was 689$. Great video by the way.
Thank you Paul....have a great weekend!
I love this gun, and I only really shoot full-bore magnums out of it.
Loved my blued GP100. Never should have sold it to my dad!
$550, mix's pawn shop finds continue. Got the same grips, mine is a 7 round, $750 new. Got a SP 101 in SS that I carry from time to time
The SP101 is an excellent revolver and I also carry mine from time to time. I should have showed it off in this video.
Awesome story and I thank you for sharing it. Sounds like he was a great friend. Do you still own your Browning Hi-Power?
@@mixup98 - I do indeed! It was my first duty weapon as a sworn officer (dispatched and reserved 'til then). It is sitting beside my bed now (RIA 1911 on the other side). Over the years the BHP had a minor action job and you can feel right as that sear slips. Very accurate even to this day and even after countless 9BPLE rounds through it.
