Basically my ritual before doing a reading especially for someone else I always start by putting on instrumental music, I put my electric fireplace on, light candles, get my sage stick smoking, make sure I have water nearby, I wash my hands with a special soap, I say a little mantra, I take some deep breath’s and close my eyes and ask the cards to guide me to what the person needs to know most and then I begin my shuffling. I have a Facebook page called “oracle readings and life advice by JL” where I post videos on things like this if you ever want to check it out.

Prayer, essential oils, water (or possibly another drink like tea or Kombucha :D ), journal and pen, guidebooks (for personal readings), CRYSTALS. I do both oracle and tarot and keep a crystal on each deck I have out. I also keep Selenite directly above my decks/on my reading cloth to clear the energy. I use the other crystals to keep the decks infused with positive energy and help me if I’m struggling to interpret - the spirit of stones can speak through me. I’ve also got a crystal-specific deck called Crystals - The Stone Deck. Awesome cards; not so much a traditional oracle but great for helping choose crystal energies to work with. As someone who is certifiably Crystal Crazy™ I can say they can really add to a reading too. Often times I’ll pull some crystal cards first, grab those to work with, and then pull my other cards. It’s amazing how often they correspond. The crystals are an awesome guide. I guess I’m kind of a hybrid reader! Loved your list though, especially chocolate hahaha
I have a labradorite gazing ball. It's nice to turn it around and around in my hand before pulling cards. It quiets my conscious mind by watching the beautiful changing colors. I can then focus on a particular question, shuffle my deck, and pull the cards. This typically helps me get a clear response to the question.

Anyway, my must have is the Utlimate Tarot journal I got from your website. The card I drew for "What kind of deck are you?" was the Emperor. Hello again Kate, In this video you was talking about burning incense and listening to meditation music. Well, being 72 the end of June, I'm an old never die hippy from the 60's and have always loved burning incense and since I am a member of the Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma, but live in California. I find the best music for me is the Cherokee Music. I too love Chocolate and burning candles.
I am doing a study on tarot cards and readings,I grew to like it when I saw my mom reading the normal playing cards as a child,I like your channel,it is so genuine and cool.
I love oils, candles, incense, tarot music, palo santo, sage and my cat when I practice tarot. My favorite incense and oil scent nowadays is dragon's blood (I'm obsessed with dragon's blood oil). I play my music on my ear pods to block out background noise from my ghetto neighbors. I always leave my decks in their original boxes and always will but place all decks in this fancy box with a lid that I purchased at Home Goods (I love that box, although I may need to purchase another box or two in the future as my deck collection grows). Everytime I practice tarot my cat seems super comfortable and sleeps throughout session. I really feel that all cats are mystical and love mystical things. Oh I almost forgot, I need my crystals and herb infused moon water.

I'm beginning to feel that many of the caucasian women witches on TH-cam feel that reading tarot and practicing magic only belongs to them and that their way is the only way. I also do all of the things you mentioned. My favorite tea is the Yogi Soothing Caramel Bedtime Tea-yum! My music comes from Pandora-I love the Douglas Spotted Eagle channel. I have to have my crystals on the table (whichever ones are calling to me at that time) and I always have a fresh white table cloth on my reading table. It helps me focus on the cards. Great ideas! I like to use a velvet tarot cloth to lay out my cards during a reading. I also love sitting near a window when possible as I love natural lighting when I read, especially when it's a sunny day. Thanks for the inspiration❤🌈🙂
Great video. I read the blog you posted on this same subject as well. I light candles and I always light incense. I use either sage, dragons blood or frankincense. I also have several crystals lying about as well. I haven't tried the music but I think I will. I'm trying to open up to my intuition at this point and I'm kind of stuck and think it might help. thanks for sharing this 😁 i also use my stones and crystals for cleansing my decks and it also sets an awesome vibe at all times. However you have to cleanse the stones before placing them on your decks. Direct sunlight or moonlight for 4 hours. You can also set in ocean water for 4 hours or hold under running water if you're in a pinch for time ❤

I've been reading tarot on and off for a decade and have never considered ritual activities for reading tarot (i just happened to light a candle today before my reading and watching your reading, which i enjoyed. That wooden box is amazing are the celtic zoomorphic animals carved in or created with pyrography/wood burning? I have my Lenormand and tarot decks in a carved wooden box that used to be a tea 'chest' its small A5 but very pretty, I like a pretty cloth and my favorite crystals of the moment around. I use a singing bowl or tibetan cymbals to start and end a reading. Like the idea of mood music tho, Many blessings, peace n light :)

Yes! I used to always put crystals around my reading space. I feel bad saying this, but I still haven't unpacked my box of crystals from when I moved several months ago! So I haven't been using crystals lately, but I do have some nice stones I got from the beach that I have on my table.

I am with you on several of yours, but I always need at least one crystal with me- doesn't matter if its large or small. I very much resonate with ritual and think for something like tarot reading it really enhances your, we'll call it openness. Candles and incense are hugely inspiring as well!
Candles, incense, quartz/Amethyst/etc.. Any Crystal that I feel heightens my intuition..! I sometimes keep my crystal ball on my table as well! (Kind of a nice addition to the candles and incense, but that's just me!)

Hi Kate, could you please explain to me what it means with the blocked card layout? I understand the meaning but don't know how people get them - do they draw a card and choose that as the 'blockage" card or is it if a card accidentally falls out and lies at an angle when you are spreading them out? I read about it being on "it's side" and I don't know what this means and can't find help on this anywhere? :( Any advice would be most welcome. ♥
Hi Leanne, I think you are referring to the 2nd card in the Celtic Cross spread? That card represents possible blocks. You choose this card the same way as you choose the others - randomly. And you lay it crossways across the first card. Does this answer your question?

Hi Leanne, It just depends on the spread you are using. Don't let the fact the "block" card is on it's side get you confused. When I create my own spreads I often have a card representing possible blocks/challenges and I usually don't have it on it's side. It just depends on the spread. Cheers :)
Do you "cleanse" your tarot deck? I keep mine in a painted by me box. In the box I have several different crystals and some herbs (for earth cleansing). Is it ok to keep them in a cleansing box?
oh yeah, that's fantastic to keep them in a cleansing box! I have gotten a bit lazy over the years and I rarely cleanse my decks, other than placing a crystal on top of them or very briefly with reiki right before a reading. But I like your idea, I might try that.
I have one. Where did you get that pouch? Did it come with It? I use candles for personals but I don't believe they are just haves. My cat comes in too! But can you clarify that you don't have too have it but it works?
The pouch came with the deck, I think. And yeah, these aren't really "must haves" - these are just things that will enhance your Tarot reading experience.
I have heard that senses stick are for protection and I need to have them. The issue is that I cannot stand sesnes for long... Is that really necessary?

Hi Kate, you're channel is Awesome! thank you for your insights and your interpretations on the decks! I have learned very much! One thing I've been always asking my self on reading and interpreting the cards are the following. I hope you could give some of your experience and opinion on this :) If I want to interpret the cards for myself or for someone else (it doesn't matter who), I've always tried to interpret it as neutral as possible, in order not to "influence" the reading (is it even possible???). I think, how you interpret your cards depends heavily on your mood, on your view of life (optimist vs. pesimist) etc. I mean, if you draw eg. the death, you could interpret this card negatively or positively, or both. It's like seeing the the glass half full or half empty. I hope you see my point ;-) Do you think it matters for reading and interpreting the cards? should person who is depressive not reading the card? I'm very sorry for my bad english :D and thank you for your reply!
Hi Tony, Thanks for watching and I'm glad you find my videos helpful :) I think that our interpretations of a card will be colored with our own moods and experiences. I notice that whatever book i happen to be reading at the time will effect my readings. So I think it's unavoidable. But it's helpful to look at both the negative and positive aspects of a card, like you suggest. That will help you stay as neutral as you can. To answer your question: I always advice people to hold off on doing a reading if they are feeling upset because it can affect how they see the cards and they are more likely to get more upset if they get a "negative" card. I do! I have a ton of crystals - I love using clear quartz, amethyst, rose quartz and celestite in my readings, but it really depends on the reading what crystals I choose.

Most of my deck bags were lavender sachet bags, like for underwear drawers, and I just took out the filling and used it for my deck. I got them at craft fairs. I've seen tarot bags for sale in metaphysical stores, but they're never dirt cheap. They're easy to make if you have a sewing machine.
Hi Kate I have a question from your video of learn to read tarot with love light and intuition there is a part on there where you talk about thinking of the question as you shuffle going through your head your throat etc. I do that after the shuffle,why do get the feeling of lightheadedness or dizziness when I do that? I hold the deck in my right hand with my left hand on top what does that feeling mean?
I could be way off but it could just be that you and the spirit of your deck become one. your body is not use to that connection or level and so you get light headed. I believe if you keep connecting it should lessen and you be able to enjoy the experience instead of feeling sick.

I've been reading tarot on and off for a decade and have never considered ritual activities for reading tarot (i just happened to light a candle today before my reading and watching your reading, which i enjoyed. I have my Lenormand and tarot decks in a carved wooden box that used to be a tea 'chest' its small A5 but very pretty, I like a pretty cloth and my favorite crystals of the moment around. I use a singing bowl or tibetan cymbals to start and end a reading. Like the idea of mood music tho,

I never learned tarot, I am an energy healer and teacher And I learned to read energy before I learned to read cards.

Ur peacock pen is adorable! I just wanted to say, i have made many pens in feathers. you can actually unscrew the pen and pull out the inside, and they usually fit perfectly if you push them up inside the hollow center of the feather. Just wanted to let you know, incase you wanna forego the scotch tape;D haha

Yes! I used to always put crystals around my reading space. I feel bad saying this, but I still haven't unpacked my box of crystals from when I moved several months ago! So I haven't been using crystals lately, but I do have some nice stones I got from the beach that I have on my table.

I am with you on several of yours, but I always need at least one crystal with me- doesn't matter if its large or small. I very much resonate with ritual and think for something like tarot reading it really enhances your, we'll call it openness. Candles and incense are hugely inspiring as well!
Almost everything I keep instead of cat sometimes I have my dog and few extra like crystal and lamp in my Tarot reading area.... nicely briefed ❤️

Candles, incense, quartz/Amethyst/etc.. Any Crystal that I feel heightens my intuition..! I sometimes keep my crystal ball on my table as well! (Kind of a nice addition to the candles and incense, but that's just me!)

Hi Kate, could you please explain to me what it means with the blocked card layout? I understand the meaning but don't know how people get them - do they draw a card and choose that as the 'blockage" card or is it if a card accidentally falls out and lies at an angle when you are spreading them out? I read about it being on "it's side" and I don't know what this means and can't find help on this anywhere? :( Any advice would be most welcome. ♥

I think you are referring to the 2nd card in the Celtic Cross spread? That card represents possible blocks. You choose this card the same way as you choose the others - randomly. And you lay it crossways across the first card. Does this answer your question?

It just depends on the spread you are using. Don't let the fact the "block" card is on it's side get you confused. When I create my own spreads I often have a card representing possible blocks/challenges and I usually don't have it on it's side. It just depends on the spread.

Do you "cleanse" your tarot deck? I keep mine in a painted by me box. In the box I have several different crystals and some herbs (for earth cleansing). Is it ok to keep them in a cleansing box?
oh yeah, that's fantastic to keep them in a cleansing box! I have gotten a bit lazy over the years and I rarely cleanse my decks, other than placing a crystal on top of them or very briefly with reiki right before a reading. But I like your idea, I might try that.

The pouch came with the deck, I think. And yeah, these aren't really "must haves" - these are just things that will enhance your Tarot reading experience.

I like hem champa better than nag champa. Nag champa was always really strong for me (or for my tiny house, which condenses the aroma I guess).
I've never heard of hem champa, but I do sometimes find that nag champa is a bit powerful, too.

One thing I've been always asking my self on reading and interpreting the cards are the following. I hope you could give some of your experience and opinion on this :)
If I want to interpret the cards for myself or for someone else (it doesn't matter who), I've always tried to interpret it as neutral as possible, in order not to "influence" the reading (is it even possible???). I think, how you interpret your cards depends heavily on your mood, on your view of life (optimist vs. pesimist) etc. I mean, if you draw eg. the death, you could interpret this card negatively or positively, or both. It's like seeing the the glass half full or half empty. I hope you see my point ;-)
Do you think it matters for reading and interpreting the cards? should person who is depressive not reading the card?

I think that our interpretations of a card will be colored with our own moods and experiences. I notice that whatever book i happen to be reading at the time will effect my readings. So I think it's unavoidable. But it's helpful to look at both the negative and positive aspects of a card, like you suggest. That will help you stay as neutral as you can. To answer your question: I always advice people to hold off on doing a reading if they are feeling upset because it can affect how they see the cards and they are more likely to get more upset if they get a "negative" card. Hope this clears things up for you :)

I don't use music in my videos or audio recordings. This is just if I'm doing a reading for myself at home or if I'm reading for someone in person.
This may sound like a stupid question but are you allowed to keep tarot card packs together for example wrapped in silk but siting next to each other or should you keep them completely apart to prevent energy’s mixing ect? Or does it not matter at all? Thank you, lots of love xxxx

I do! I have a ton of crystals - I love using clear quartz, amethyst, rose quartz and celestite in my readings, but it really depends on the reading what crystals I choose.

No one has ever asked me that! The painting was done by my grandmother in the 1960's of my mother when she was a teen. I recently got it when my parents were clearing out a closet in their home and came across it!

Hi. Just wondered if you can advise where to buy drawstring bags for my Tarot and Angel Cards? If I buy them on Amazon etc some of them are £5-£10 and it's going to work out expensive buying them for all my decks. Or cute little boxes maybe ? Thanks in advance ☺
Most of my deck bags were lavender sachet bags, like for underwear drawers, and I just took out the filling and used it for my deck. I got them at craft fairs. I've seen tarot bags for sale in metaphysical stores, but they're never dirt cheap. They're easy to make if you have a sewing machine.

Hi Kate I have a question from your video of learn to read tarot with love light and intuition there is a part on there where you talk about thinking of the question as you shuffle going through your head your throat etc. I do that after the shuffle,why do get the feeling of lightheadedness or dizziness when I do that? I hold the deck in my right hand with my left hand on top what does that feeling mean?
I could be way off but it could just be that you and the spirit of your deck become one. your body is not use to that connection or level and so you get light headed. I believe if you keep connecting it should lessen and you be able to enjoy the experience instead of feeling sick.

breathing smoke of any kind is carcinogenic I would think, but you aren't directly inhaling it like a cigarette, so I wouldn't worry too much.
