Ex. 1: I was born as a hybrid and my parents were killed by people from a secret foundation full of scientists who experiment on hybrids/humans
Ex. 2: My parents died, so I avenge them by trying to track the murderer and kill them to everyone they love.
Ex. 3: I was born as a hybrid who is actually the lost princess of [kingdom name] and I was adopted by an abusive household and my sister is a spoiled living barbie doll who dates the blonde chad. I get bullied every 5 seconds in highschool.
Ex. 4: My dad is alcoholic so I ran away and met [most famous and hottest canon character], got married, did the _thing_ , had kids and lived happily ever after.

It's kind of like your mom insults, or "you are not invited to my birthday party", when you're a child you're offended, as a pre-teen and teen it's childish, but when you reach 20 they only become more and more effective
Attention to everyone: If you're going to make an oc, make a weakness that is equal to thier powers. If it's emo, give it some kind of soft spot. Overpowered? Give it a kryptonite. Royalty or major character? Give it weakness or social issues. Balanced characters are easier to write about and roleplay with. The weaknesses cause openings for more diverse scenarios and make the characters less predictable.
Edit: In no way am I saying that anyone's oc's aren't good enough. As long as you like your oc, that's all that matters 😊. There isn't a right or wrong way to make an oc. This comment is just a tip to help with diversity and predictability in stories and roleplays.

@@thewalkingcontrarian257 Ocs aren't something that everyone has to like. It only matters if you like it. I just gave this tip so it can be easier for the oc creators to make more diverse stories and backstories. If you like your oc, that's that. 😊
me, creating an oc: they’re kind, they’re pretty friendly though there’s still some social awkward quality to them that makes them lovable dorks, they’re quiet modt of the time but they have a lot to say. tbh they seem like cool people

The funny and kind of sad thing, is that most of these can all be genuinely good characters as long as they are written correctly and used in the proper setting lol, not like other girls girls make good side characters if they have an arc where they learn to chill a bit. Angsty characters are good so long as they arent op and are relevant to the story. Same for supernatural creatures. As long as its done correctly it can be a pretty good story. And lets be honest, we all had to start somewhere with writing and obviously our first attempts kind of sucked lol

Technically, none of my oc is alive since they all lives in the past since I write the story going back and forth to the 10000 years in the future and 1000 years in the past past and in between... So their dead and alive at the same time.

honestly i love stereotypically ‘bad’ oc’s like this because they’re usually just made by kids having fun and finding ways to express their love for the fandoms they’re in. i can’t make any oc’s anymore without worrying about them being too powerful, or a mary sue, or just downright cringey and im always worried that they’re not ‘good’ - at what point does this oc end up being made more for others than for myself? im honestly jealous of the creativity of these kids.

I genuinely thank God that I never hit that point. I feel like it's really something that only happens if you're really into a bunch of fandoms and/or at an age where you like so many things that you can't help but want to use it all at once. Luckily I was always a slüt for vamps and hated twilight, else I'd probably have a few regrets under my belt.

My advice for developing your OCs: put them in situations together that wouldn’t be in your media. If it’s a magical put them in a high school AU or put them at Hogwarts etc. basically write fanfic for your own media 😂
lol I do that all the time! I've never seen anything related to harry potter but I like to think what houses they'd be in. Another thing I like is I'll make (albeit half-assed) DnD character sheets for them. Just to see what kinda class they'd be if they were in a fantasy setting.
Yay! I LOVE this method (and am using it so much it distracts me from writing for the actual setting at times, whoops).
Instead of going with specific AUs, I'd rely on random prompt generators/randomly choose a couple of tropes to write with. It helps getting a more natural sense for your characters, not to mention it's just tons of fun.

I've got
-the asexual cinnamon roll who can and will _literally bite you_ if you joke about his height. Also there may or may not have been a small cult formed around him in one RP because I put him in a super gory dystopian world where OCs actually died off pretty fast and like 9 different people's OCs swore to protect him with their lives. It was beautiful.
-the one who could probably destroy the world in minutes if he felt like it but is too busy trying to figure out whether or not he has a crush on a werewolf
-the 9 foot tall gryphon who's dumber than a sack of potatoes and will die for his friends (and/or jerky strips made of badger meat)
Mine's are:
Michael with abandoned issues, mental health issues and whos lonely, so he's sometimes too clingy and gets jealous easily. He has problems with his mom, but he has a wholesome personality and is kinda funny i guess (writing it down is so hard lol). And his family was very wealthy (they still are, but not that much since their father left them when he was 14). Oh yeah, and he's stubborn.
Then there is Matthew, who's mother also left him when he was 12, but his aunt became his mother and his cousin is his sister now. He got bullied all throughout elementary and middle school and is very insecure. Hes more of a sarcastic type, and he has a hard time trusting someone. Hes very close to his dad and his best friend Elijah. And has a hard time expressing his feelings
Naomi Jane is the awkward outcast, but has a passion for baking. Her family owns a bakery and she wants to own that bakery, when she grows up. She's like the average awkward girl, she likes to draw and watches anime and reads manga and stuff.
Lastly, there's Anja. She's an extrovert and she's that kinda annoying girl, that doesnt know shes annoying lol. But she's also very nice and likes to go outside a lot and do something with her friends. Her brother is very protective of her, which makes it hard for her to have a relationship (note that the charas are all 17-18, except Michael and Elijah are around 18-19)
My story is set around highschool of the year 2016-2017 and they all become friends

all my ocs are a work in progress and are planned to be put in a dr fangame, but they might change completely by the time you see this comment, but so far all of them arent ready:
my unnamed stress OC- carries a gun related to his friends death since it comforts him, but also has anger issues and a ton of family related trauma (ex. his sister going to jail for killing thier religiously abusive dad) yet tries to make people worry about him as little as possible by acting goofy and cheerful and literally would jump in front of a bullet for a stranger since he set his lifes goal to protecting everybody to make up for his sisters arrest and friends death due to his extreme guilty mindset
the comic relief- my stress OCs best friend, who lives in her own world and sees everything in a cheery and happy way, but gets ticked and serious when you try to drag her into reality. takes nothing seriously at all, and the only way to get her to truly develop? killing somebody close to her
the groups comfort character- basically tries to keep the group sane, since if anybody snaps then everybodys lives are on the line. usually pretty serious and very good with emotions, able to know how somebody is feeling by looking at thier expressions, whether or not those expressions are faked
the contagonist- the traitor in the group who always causes trouble just to lead them to the truth, and is working behind the scenes to keep the game running yet leading it astray at the same time to make sure it comes to a complete halt after a few chapters
my only named character, mira ayu- fears making decisions on her own, so follows somebody else and does thier every command, despite her personal opinion and would go and has gone as far as murder or manipulation to fufill thier requests, no matter what. luckily, in this situation her master is the comic relief, so mira isnt much of a threat unless somebody becomes a threat to her master
the other two i have so far dont have any personality or past yet so i cant describe them, so thats all
