The kestrel feeds its chicks mainly with small lizards. There were also birds, insects and a few rodents. When female fed chicks with mice and birds, she blocked the view of the camera with herself.
It's Not survival of the fittest. All eggs laid, hatched on different dates. All chicks equal in size, All healthy. The most aggressive chicks get the most food. Always. If nothing is left, the others starve. They're not sick, they're starved. Very common in raptor nests. The further apart the hatch dates, the last hatched rarely survive in large clutches.
