I have five macaws. They are the sweetest kids! However, they do nip if I miss the signs. I don't, as a rule. There are times when the dog will come up on us quickly and frighten them; the bird will correct me for not paying attention!
The Umbrella Cockatoo at 0:15 says such a sweet "Hello"...breaks my heart! I hope someone out there has had a kind enough heart to have given him/her a home despite its picking issue. I have a U2 with a bare belly like that and he's the most loving little guy ever. RESCUES ARE THE ONLY WAY TO GO IF YOU TRULY LOVE and RESPECT THESE MAGNIFICENT CREATURES ;)
electrohippie1313 i saved a bird from being abused. I wanted a tame parrot, but they gave me a wild one at the cost of a tame. He is doing ok, but still likes to bite fingers. Those people were arrested and the police gave the parrots for free and gave back the €75 to me.
electrohippie1313 I would love to have another one, I gave my cockatoo to a friend that lost her husband and son in a drowning accident. Everyone want to much money, I have a little money but a lot of love, can someone help me find a talking bird to give a loving home? Mariana 828 243 0365
It’s important to not react in order to not encourage it. Birds are smart, if he pulled away when it bit him the bird will keep biting him whenever he gets mad/frustrated or anything like that.
@@ihatetomatoes5341 ive been bit by a macaw and it hurts but they dont bite as hard as amazon parrots. Ive got some nasty scars off an amazon i was taming for someone.
Howzer The man I can’t help but think this could have been avoided and I really believe that Micheal wouldn’t have chose to hold the bird at that point given the choice as he would know she was in a “heightened state” and would have ended up like this, the bird unhappy and Micheal unhappy. He’s the parrot wizard after all he would have read her body language and known but they both had no choice moment in the. I’m sure the gentleman thought he was acting in their best interest though !
Without a doubt he was. After all he'd said they'd bonded. But I know that he was also really glad to find a good home for her where she'd be loved and given good care.
A military Macaw has an average 11 owners in it's lifetime, it just makes me sad, I inherited my Macaw "Paco" , he's about 8 yrs old and I'm 61 so he'll outlive me by decades, I'm looking for a "forever" home for him.
I'm Barbara I'm from Brazil ( country that macaws and mostly parrots species are originated from ) i always dreamed of having a macaw i already have a budgie and five dogs just saying that I'm VERY interested
buying the bird is probably the cheapest part ! Soo many ongoing expenses and that’s apart from medical bills. If someone can’t afford to pay the price of that particular bird then most likely it seems you may struggle with giving the bird the life it deserves unfortunately. Although I’m sure the bird would not be short of 💕 love, it’s hundreds at least per year I spend on my African grey, (this year thousands with new aivery set up) vet bills toys aviaries perches veg fruit pellets vitamins minerals travel cages, uv lights medical insurance , more toys then more toys , they destroy toys (that is their idea of having fun , to destroy them keeps them busy to avoid boredom which could lead to mental health problems. so they go through so many toys each month at around £20 per toy, I spend hundreds per year on one African grey, this is with a healthy bird with no underlying health conditions.if you are serious about a bird then you need to have money saved up for emergencies because it can easily run in to thousands of pounds with one accident. Please THINK and LEARN as much as possible before adopting a parrot.
I always feel sorry for these animals, seeing them go from home to home - I wonder if they miss their previous owners. I'm sure she's going to a loving place, which is so good, but it just makes me feel sad for them.
Archetype00 I know my parrot missed his owner which I guess looks like my brother cause i think he thought my brother was his original person because he'd fly to him and get all fluffy and kiss my brother he absolutely loved him . Unfortunately my brother wasn't a animal guy. After awhile I think my bird realized my brother wasn't his owner and stopped flying over to him
All I can say from being a slave to one for 6 years now, is god help you if you don't get it right. If you do, they are every bit as Gentle Giant as they say they are. Good on ya buddy! Just give him the best life.
I want to take a moment to respect his self control when she was nomming down on his arm. it's a hard thing for people to break, wanting to pull away or flinch. good for him. :p
Beautiful bird! I love how you were willing to take this bird in who obviously would've scared a lit of others. You were calm about the whole thing. She is very lucky to be living in such a great home with such a good owner like you!
Kate Herreid yeah that's what happens when you're doped up on pain killers. You don't blink when you feel pain, dummy. A bunch of junkies in the bird industry
These people do an awesome job rescuing birds! I always see dogs and cats getting adopted, it's awesome to see that there are bird rescues too. The story about the owner with cancer killed me, I can only imagine how stressful it was on her.
My favorite part is when she bites Michael, and he just stands there perfectly still and continues looking at her. She's thinking to herself, "well this isn't going to work"
My budgie's beak is too small to do serious damage to most parts of my body, but knowing what her "love nibbles" to my lip feel like, I always cringe when people let large parrots near their face. Even closing your eyes wouldn't protect them against that beak. Loving macaw owners have my utmost respect, braver souls than I! :P
compulsiverambler love your comment! I have my macaw since 2 and a half months and I am still afraid to kiss him too much but sometimes I just can't resist!
Id rather a macaw bites me than an amazon parrot. Ive been bitten by both breeds plenty of times and macaws bite as a warning where as amazons bite to do damage and damage they do. Ive had to have stitches from an amazon bite worst bite off a macaw ive had barely drew blood.
I have a blue and gold and a green-winged macaw. The blue and gold will sometimes bite but after being bit either by accident or purpose, you get used to it. Also, it's better to not react because if you do, it tends to make the bird feel dominant over you and that causes even more problems... I love my birds though and they love me.
Im getting a bird (Shes WAY smaller than that bird because shes a conure) and my bird bit me the other day, and it hurt but i didnt react. Hurts to bend my finger now though
She's home! And the next journey begins... I was quite impressed that Mr. Lazicki had no fear in putting his face near her even while she was feeling cranky about your being there. And his trust was not misplaced. I think if you succeed in winning her heart, she'll be a HUGE bundle of love.
I've only been bit by a cherry headed conure once and i didn't feel it at first but then the pain got worse and stays like that for about 30 minutes to an hour. I can only imagine a macaw bite, I am a very experienced bird owner, and can get a macaw if I'd like, but the beak always holds me back. This is why I will never get a macaw, not even the nicest macaw out there, because there alway the potential of a bite!
a macaw will only bite if they are afraid or if you have done something to make it where the macaw thinks she or he has to bite. you have to work with you macaw in order to build trust so the bird will feel safe with you around and wont feel like they need to bite.
+Jacob loose yes I know birds only bite for protection! but there is always the potential of a bite! and I'd rather there be no potential. I only rescue parrot, I never buy from shops or breeders, so all the birds I receive have no trust for humans what so ever! There for when it comes to training, most of the parrots a train reach over and bite me. I know all birds are different but I'd rather take no chances plus I believe these types of parrots shouldn't be owned, I feel this is like owning a pet tiger, some animals should have never been in contact with people and I feel bad that these birds ancestors as they were taken from there home and out in a cage in someone's living room. I know that If a domestic bird were to be release to the wild it would die, which makes me even sadder to know that they have forgotten how to live in there own home.
She was so much gentler when he got her out of that shelter with the loud noises and birds and people. When he brought her to her room full of toys and less stress she calmed right down. What a good bird.
I found this video randomly and don't have any experience of caring for parrots, but I found this fascinating to watch such a beautiful, intelligent creature. It must be a real pleasure to form such a bond. Certainly not something to just buy on a whim, but along term commitment.
That warms my heart I'm like you I just adopted a 9 year old Military Macaw and know the feeling of the BIG beak. I have had smaller birds. What a wonderful setup and life she will have with you. She is such a beauty too good luck with your new family member!!
What amazing hues on Santina! You really have a lovely bird. Thank you for the great cage you constructed - she seems to have loved it right away and relaxed. What a good owner you are!! Its quite a commitment to own a parrot that lives over 100 yrs. Bravo on the rescue!
When that cockatoo said 'hello' and when i saw the condition it were in, my heart just broke, it's so adorable, I hope someone gives it a good home ;-;
Seriously, nothing but mad respect after you took those two bites like they were nothing. Subscribed after I saw this. We too have a Greenwing. Those beaks are no joke.
Great job not reacting to the bite Michael. Can't say I would have been abe to do the same. lol For someone at at rescue that you would think has pretty extensive knowlege about birds, you would think the guy from the rescue would understand that negative reinforcement doesn't work. The new bird room looks great also. I'm sure Kili and Truman are going to love it also.
I wouldn't go so far as to say that negative reinforcement doesn't work. The problem is more so that it doesn't work in the long term (either the parrot becomes desensitized and the aversive is no longer stimulating or the parrot bites to avoid the aversive in the first place). In the short term (like at the rescue), getting a not-hungry, not-motivated parrot to step up for positive reinforcement may be impossible while negative reinforcement works immediately. That is why negative reinforcement is still so prevalent... because of short sighted people seeking instant gratification. And that's why so many parrots are screwed up and end up in rescues...
Awesome room in your home, how loud is that when she screams. Mine loves to be in the front room of my home for hours, they scream less in the living room. Just so you know. I have a ten year old she loves car rides, going to the pet stores for shopping. Thank You for rescuing and not buying....just saying....I have seven.
What a sweet video. You are a BIRD person. When anyone can take a bird bite and it's no big deal, that's a bird person! I have scars from parrots and penguins, I love them all!
You guys are so sweet! When I'm training my cat I talk to him like my son. He brought me a toy mouse the other day because I gave him some healthy organic green tea to drink. He investigates his foods with his snout and I mix some of his fish or meat with avocado and oatmeal or other gentle grains. I'm totally asking the Universe to come around and visit you guys.
I would’ve easily took the Umbrella Cockatoo that says “Hello” at 0:16 if I was at that bird rescue!!! If that big Green-winged Macaw bit me once, I would’ve probably passed on the Macaw and tried interacting with the Umbrella Cockatoo and other birds they had in the rescue to see if they would bite me while stepping up. I understand that Macaws like to show their dominance at first, but Umbrella Cockatoos seem to have an overall nicer personality and like attention from anyone in the family or even anyone they see, not just their caretaker like most Macaws. I tried holding both birds at a bird store near me that takes unwanted birds in and adopts them out to people and the Umbrella Cockatoo was very sweet and didn’t want to get off of me once he got on my arm! The Macaw on the other hand… didn’t even want anything to do with me and tried reaching his beak out to bite my arm when I near his perch to try stepping up. I didn’t even get a chance to actually hold the Macaw on my arm, but rather on a stick in which the Macaw tried walking up the stick and almost bit my arm, but luckily was near the perch to put him back on before it was too late. I was very calm and didn’t react every time the Macaw tried to bite. I know all birds are different and there could very well be sweet Macaws and nasty Umbrella Cockatoos out there. It all depends on their past and how they were treated/ how much attention they got in their previous homes. I didn’t end up with either bird and bought home a sweet and loving Jenday Conure named Rio. I went for the Conure because I don’t have space for a bigger bird and the Conure was like the Cockatoo, it didn’t want to get off of my shoulder and even gave me some kisses before I even got him in the carrier to take him home. You handled the bites like a pro though by the way 👍
@ 3:50 how he doesn't flinch from the bite to not make the bird confuse biting as reward with a big reaction is very impressive and respectful! Your the man homie, even though this is from 2013 mad cool.
hey bro i just adopted a 1 year old blue gold macaw he was in a tiny cage he could barely move and was extremely stressed he was almost completely bald it broke my heart seeing him like that i have put him on a good diet and his wing and tail feathers have grown out he has stopped plucking but his torso feathers are slowly coming in do you have any idea how long it takes for them to fully grow out
If someone really love a Macaw; that bite mean nothing. We know they are behavior is like bipolar, we have to know jow to handle them. I love my scarlet macaw!!
Wow dude. She bit you pretty good. Twice, and you didn't even flinch. I hope she warms up to you. You have incredible patience and a lot of love in your heart. Thank you for adopting her that new cage is amazing. Awww i wish yall the best. ❤
feel so sorry for this bird as lovely as she is , she just keeps getting past along to another owner over and over , mitchael had to rehome her as she kept attacking his flock , so sad hope she finds a loving home such a lovely bird and just wants love and cuddless ,
I remember when I used to go to my why old pet club and I used to hold this one bird it would nibble on my ear and let me crate-ill it birds are so cool then they sold it sadly
+Parrot Wizard Thank you. It will be a while, because I have been unwell for a long time, and still have a ways to go before I will be well enough to adopt and care for birds, but I will be sure to contact you when I have recovered enough to be able to take care of a companion Macaw and other pets. Dee
It's more that they want to give them good homes. If you convince them you'll be a good human for the bird, they want to offer discounts if that will make it possible for the perfect home. Commercial breeders and pet shops have a profit motive so often don't vet their customers if the customer can pay full price, which is why most birds get sold to either bad homes or homes where they're given up soon for being not what the human expected.
It has been a lifelong dream of mine to own my favorite parrots, which are macaw, cockatoo, indian ringneck. I had budgies when i was a kid so ill always love em
Awww :-) I've heard parrots have the intelligence of a 4-year old child and can live 85-90 years. Oftentimes, the parrot outlives the owner, so they have to be willed to a trusted family member. I love to watch the videos of these beautiful birds, but I could never keep a parrot myself.
I just started volunteering there a few weeks back, and this is so awesome to see that these guys go to such loving homes! Can't wait to watch the rest of your videos!!
I loved watching how you got along at first! It must be very much like adopting a young child who you need to earn the trust of. I'm sure you will be great forever friends!
To see Sentina so very scared is very hard. And then at home a completely other bird. So nice to see that she from the first minute at home are feeling good.
Thank you so much for adopting your parrot! You handled Santina so gently and wonderfully. I have no doubt Santina will have a wonderful life with you.
As a long time bird owner and now a Bearded Dragon mom, I believe that all recently adopted animals deserve a new pet Vet check-up. That way we establish the medical history with our vet right from the beginning.. New subscriber! Can't wait to see her update.✌️😊 I think that she will bond very well with you. 😁❤️
This is a great video. It's so nice to see someone caring for these birds, I hate that some of them look so broken after what they've been through. Every person I've spoken to who have owned a large parrot always say, " I USED to have," its a shame. I believe the man in the video will make a great adoptive carer for this bird though, he handled those bites like a pro and understood how to react.
What a sweet old man . I love the fact that the bird is not afraid of him
i really hope he is still doing well!
Maria Isela the bird didn’t want to leave
Sounds like a mental institution. I died laughing at the bird who politely said hello.
Lol, same
*FiveRivers*
Happy Thanksgiving! Cheer up.
*FiveRivers* this comment is cringe worthy
YouReallyMadHuh I laughed so hard to
YouReallyMadHuh what time in the video
I love how all the birds are screaming and the cockatoo just politely says hello
Imagine all of them saying "Hello" it will sound like a tunnel in there
Lol
LMFAO
I wanted to meet that cockatoo. :)
Macaws are more noisy cockatoos are generally calmer
The man adopting the parrot was so nice. He was so calm when she bit him and incredibly patient :3c I'm sure he'll make a great parrot parent
I know I’m late and you’ve already watched more vids but he has multiple birds
Not sure i could adopt a biter.... Takes courage to take on a bird with an attitude.
Yes
Hopefully, the last bite! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Those bites had him screaming on the inside even my partkeets bite kinda hard
Exactly my budgies bites are like tiny pinches and it hurts a little
Cockatiels hurt more trust me
Gacha-cookie :3 yeppp

She. And I believe it was a traumatic experience for her that was later rectified by Parrot Wizard.
And her screams inside the carrier break my heart I can tell she really did not want to leave
No sticks and no clicks. How refreshing. I wish the two of them all the best.
OUCH those bites must have hurt - what a pro not to react at all!
they know if you react so you must not react if you ignore they stop
ronnie tjikoeri That makes sense - plus in the follow-up videos you can see how well she bonds with her new owner. I guess it's a battle of will!

What a beautiful bird. Hope she's found her forever loving home
She did... the young man adopted her and you can see updates on his youtube channel :)

Ouch!!!! Good job not getting discouraged!
The old man with the bird is hands down the cutest thing I've seen all day...
Would love to see more video on your macaw and see how she is doing. So glad you got your bird back. Been watching you for over a year now.
Oh my gosh, that room you have for her is amazing!! She gets her own window and everything!
Her cage is bigger than my house

I don't think this old man is just sad to see her go, I think he's happy she's getting a wonderful home. It's a bitter sweet departure.
How the fuck does he stay still??? Those bites look terrible! He'll be wonderful for the bird
he has some serious willpower
I would have freaked out and like dropped the bird
Reacting to it will make it know if it bites then it can get away, and encourage that behaviour
+Mia Summers yeah are these people stupid?
I have a hahns macaw and I just grab his beak gently and gently pull up and say no
I started crying When Santina was looking around at her new space with all those beautiful toys! She was in awe!!
Me: get a bite by a budgie “ owwwwwwww” cries to deaf
Micheal: * get bite by a macaw* look at that love bite
Me: ………………
You guys are so sweet! When I'm training my cat I talk to him like my son. He brought me a toy mouse the other day because I gave him some healthy organic green tea to drink. He investigates his foods with his snout and I mix some of his fish or meat with avocado and oatmeal or other gentle grains. I'm totally asking the Universe to come around and visit you guys.
no one:
Cockatoo: hello
me: 💀😂😭
You are fantastic taking her - she has clearly gone to a wonderful home
I love the birdies new home. I was hoping to see where it would be. I noticed how gently she took the nut out of his hand. A happy ending. :)
Thank you for adopting a bird and giving this beautiful soul a good home. You dont know what hes been through, but Im sure shell love you soon.
Your the man homie, even though this is from 2013 mad cool.
hey bro i just adopted a 1 year old blue gold macaw he was in a tiny cage he could barely move and was extremely stressed he was almost completely bald it broke my heart seeing him like that i have put him on a good diet and his wing and tail feathers have grown out he has stopped plucking but his torso feathers are slowly coming in do you have any idea how long it takes for them to fully grow out
it will take 6 months tops unless he's damaged the follicles. thank you for saving such a lovely creature

How is your macaw doing?
i literally started crying when i saw her new room with all the toys, what a happy ending
did the cockatoo just said "Hello"?
Yan Wong yes
Cookie Swirl may I ask what kind of bird that was the one who said "hello"
So idk if I’m just tired or something but Michel talking to the bird at the end make me tear up. What a sweet strong wonderful man
double bites in the same place
feel so sorry for this bird as lovely as she is , she just keeps getting past along to another owner over and over , mitchael had to rehome her as she kept attacking his flock , so sad hope she finds a loving home such a lovely bird and just wants love and cuddless ,
This was an awesome video! If I were a parrot, I'd be knocking on your door. lol
LOVE YOUR BIRD ROOM !!! Santina looks like she is in heaven here !! AWESOME room for her !! Glad she found some one as great as you !!
I remember when I used to go to my why old pet club and I used to hold this one bird it would nibble on my ear and let me crate-ill it birds are so cool then they sold it sadly
I use to go everyday to see that bird
Big respect for those men, caring for birds even when it's not easy
Guy: ooh that's yummy
Me *giggles*
Guy: Wooh crunch
Me *DEAD*
handled that bite like a boss, just as he should have. Good on him for taking on a great bird.
Where did you get the carrier you used to take her home?
+Deirdre Powers it's a dog carrier that I modified for parrot.
+Parrot Wizard How did you find a perch that would fit and how did you secure it, please.
+Parrot Wizard Thank you. It will be a while, because I have been unwell for a long time, and still have a ways to go before I will be well enough to adopt and care for birds, but I will be sure to contact you when I have recovered enough to be able to take care of a companion Macaw and other pets. i love how parrots dance. they are so weird and pretty. your house is like parrot heaven.
How much do you have to pay at adoption is it less than the price they are out from breeders
most of the time it is more at a breeder. at adoption centers they try to get birds adopted as fast as posible
I had budgies when i was a kid so ill always love em
where this centre is?
is in mumbai.?
help me to also adopt
I absolutely love seeing people genuinely care for a bird like this. I applaud and admire you, sir.
Woah she bit him pretty hard! OUCH! Good on him for not reacting.
The old man was constantly reinforcing bad behavior, but I know he means well, bless him
This guys amazing looks like he can give the bird a good home
I remember going to a bird store and having a blue macaw climbing on to my shoulder. He or she was really friendly. I enjoy being around birds.
I loved watching how you got along at first! It must be very much like adopting a young child who you need to earn the trust of. I'm sure you will be great forever friends!
so envious that the parrot is like a child to the older gentleman. I wish i cud have a bird that could warm up to me like that.
What a wonderful bird you adopted.. I can tell she warmed up to you and is blown away with this nice new environment you provided.. !!
What a spacious aviary he brought Santina to! I think it looks like a good match!
Those poor birds, thank you so much for rescuing and adopting. You guys are angels.
To see Sentina so very scared is very hard. And then at home a completely other bird. So nice to see that she from the first minute at home are feeling good.
all those lovely birds, they are like people, literally.
Wow...colours in these birds are amazing.
