    Metrobús is Mexico City's Bus Rapid Transit system. With 7 lines and around 700 buses, Metrobús is the fastest and easiest way to get around Mexico City. The first line, along Avenida de los Insurgentes, started in 2005 and is the busiest line in the network. The newest line, Line 7, runs along the Paseo de la Reforma which is the most important street in the entire city. Avenida de los Insurgentes is the second most important street in all of Mexico City. Metrobús serves all corners of the city including Indios Verdes, Chapultepec, Tacubaya, and the airport. Lines 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6 use high-floor BRT buses, specifically designed to allow boarding from high platforms to match the bus' floor. Line 4 uses 40-foot low floor buses due to the route passing through the narrow streets of the historic downtown; Line 7 uses double-decker low-floor buses possibly due to reluctance to reconstruct the beautiful Paseo de la Reforma to allow for unsightly BRT stations.

    Unfortunately the Mexico City Government has used Metrobús as a substitute for Metro lines which is a wrong vision.
    Line 1 currently runs overcapacity with 480 thousand passengers per day. This happens because Line 1 (as with lines 2, 3, 5, 6 and 7) actually are planned metro lines or extensions of current metro lines. They intend to overrun BRT systems in order to save money from the costly metro construction. But this only makes evident the lack of planning and confirms that BRT cant act as a substitute of metro.

    • @cleanairbus
      @cleanairbus  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Bus Rapid Transit is never an alternative to a metro but systems that cannot afford metros or expansions to their metros often turn to BRT because it's cheaper. Not always, as you allude to. Nice to see buses function with the speed and near capacity of rail, though.

    • @ancestors
      @ancestors 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@cleanairbus Cheaper is not a justification for BRT construction when capacity of routes is not covered. And it's not nice to see buses pretending to be rail systems, well, it's nice when you see it on TH-cam without having to actually live that nightmare daily for four hours. Just saying.

    • @ancestors
      @ancestors 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not, but I've been doing research for four years about traffic demand in Mexico City and I can assure you a BRT is not a substitute for a train, nor trains would be as packed as buses if you happen to extend train coverage around the city. Let me say this again: a bus is not a train and you can't get same benefits. Cheaper is not better.@@balthazarbratt8194

    • @ancestors
      @ancestors 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@balthazarbratt8194 a 9 wagon train has a capacity of 1530 per train, a double decker bus 160. So you need 9.5 buses to cover one single train.
      Even if you use three wagon buses (bi-articulado) you still need 6.3 buses to cover just a single train.

      1 metro line= $40.000.000.000.
      1brt line = $1.200.000.000

      I managed to get footage of Lines 1 through 5 and 7, but only rode 1 through 4 and 7. Now I'm hearing there will be a new Line 8 and also a massive extension to Line 5 south of San Lazaro...that should be interesting.

    • @cleanairbus
      @cleanairbus  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Looking at the Metrobus network, I realize that riding the 7 line from Indios Verdes, the line intersects with Line 6 early on into the ride. I did not, however, get off to get any Line 6 footage; I elected to stay on the bus. It's a double-decker route, how often do you see double-deckers in Mexico other than with the sightseeing bus companies?

      Seems like a number of systems copied Transmilenio in Bogota in many facets of their operation. Some systems like Guayaquil, Ecuador and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, used their own colors. Red stands out in Bogota as most microbuses down there are in the colors you mention.
