Using Co-hosts in a Zoom Meeting

  • Zoom has three roles: Host, Participants, and Co-host. In this video, we will look at the permissions for each role and focus on the co-host. The three roles are 1) Host: The user that scheduled the meeting. They have full permissions to manage the meeting. There can only be one host of a meeting. 2) Co-hosts: Shares most of the controls that hosts have, allowing the co-host to manage the administrative side of the meeting, such as managing attendees. The host must assign a co-host during the meeting. Co-hosts cannot start a meeting. 3) Participants: meeting attendees. These are the people you invited to your meeting. You can tell if you are a participant because your meeting controls will not show the "Security" icon.
    There is one more role, alternative host. I'm not covering alternative host in this video, but if a host needs someone else to start the meeting, they can assign an alternative host. Alternative hosts: Shares the same controls as co-hosts but can also start the meeting. Hosts can assign alternative hosts when they schedule a meeting.
    Chapters:
    0:00 Introduction
    1:40 Participant panel
    2:50 Make someone else the host
    4:15 Reclaim host
    4:40 Co-host features
    5:34 Lock Meeting as co-host
    6:30 Chat on/off as co-host
    7:16 Enable/Disable waiting room
    7:30 Share screen co-host
    To enable the Co-host feature for your own use:
    *************************
    1) Sign in to the Zoom web portal and click My Meeting Settings (if you are an account administrator) or Meeting Settings (if you are an account member).
    2) Navigate to the Co-host option on the Meeting tab and verify that the setting is enabled.
    If the setting is disabled, click the Status toggle to enable it. If a verification dialog displays, choose Turn On to verify the change.
    Using co-host in a meeting
    *************************
    There are two ways that you can make a user a co-host.
    During a meeting:
    1) Hover over a user's video.
    2) Click the more icon.
    3) Click Make Co-Host.
    Using the participant's window:
    1) Click on Manage Participants in the meeting controls at the bottom of the Zoom window.
    2) Hover over the name of the participant who is going to be a co-host, and choose More.
    Click Make Co-Host. Once a participant has been made a co-host, they'll have access to the co-host controls.
    Q&A
    *************************
    Can there be more than one host? No. Only one per meeting
    Can a co-host end a meeting? No. Only the host can end a meeting.
    If I'm the host and leave, can I return and reclaim the host? Yes. Open the participant panel, click the three dots, and select reclaim host.
    Can I co-host run polls? Yes, in the video, I said no, but a co-host can run polls. A co-host can't create or edit polls.

    How can you add these roles permanently / automatically to everyone invited? For a small team of 6, we want all participant to be a co-host so they can share their screen and not have to make them co-hosts during the meeting every time.

    in watching this I have no idea what you clicked on in order to give permission to someone to be the cohost. all you said was watching my screen while you were clicking on something. or you just went into participants and just by clicking on a participants name that automatically makes them the cohost.

    Chris, I’m extremely frustrated. We have been trying to set up co-hosting and scheduling. We purchased 2 licenses. Whenever we try the steps to link the two, one of us gets changed to basic and the other cannot link the email to scheduling. How do we contact a live person? The support staff does not seem to understand how the system works. They keep trying to refund the second license....help!

    • @ChrisMenardTraining
      @ChrisMenardTraining  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Linde, I can't do an Alternative host, since my account is just for me. I do not have a company account with other users. I do know you can set up an Alternative host before your meeting and if you don't show, they run the meeting as the host. I would use this if I scheduled a meeting, but I can't attend, and I want a co-worker to manage it for me.

      @@ChrisMenardTraining Thank you so much for your reply. My role in Zoom meetings for some of my clients is that I need to act as the administrator and manager of that meeting, w.o.w - be there from the beginning to the end and run the whole thing. I have to do that on behalf of the host, so while the host is present. But as we already know, there can only be ONE host. So what I eventually figured out is that as an Alternative Host I can start a meeting, and then when the Host connects in, they can choose to either come in as The Host and take over the controls, or they can come in as a Co-Host. If they select Co-Host, then I become The Host and have full control over the whole meeting. They continue to "co-host" the meeting while I'm in the background with my sound muted and video off. I can also rename The Host role so that the Co-Host which is the main person talking can have their true name displayed, and we don't see two of the same people on the participant window. Hope that makes sense? I couldn't find any videos out there to help with this, so that is why I asked originally. Really love your channel, keep up the good work.

    If a paid account 'HOST" can't make a meeting, can a temporary host be assigned? Or can I have another person be HOST on a regular basis in my paid ($15) account so I can focus on the content and not running the meeting? PS, nice explanation.

    • @ChrisMenardTraining
      @ChrisMenardTraining  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can assign an *alternative* host before a meeting, but not a *co-host* before a meeting. The alternative host needs to be on the same business account and set up as an alternative host.

    Can I assign one Zoom account (or meeting) to two different email addresses so that either person can start the meeting as host? For example, I am setting up a class but don't know who will teach it yet

    • @ChrisMenardTraining
      @ChrisMenardTraining  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only way to do that is to use the Scheduling privilege. You have to be on the same account for it to work. If you trust the other two people, a workaround is to schedule a meeting and allow the other two people to have the login credentials. They sign in as the host.
