Do you like white or colored lights on your tree? Do you like pre-lit trees? I hate them! LOL :)

    • @TracyShead-Stamey
      @TracyShead-Stamey วันที่ผ่านมา +2

I like both. I just love turning all the house lights off and turning the Christmas tree lights on. I get such a feeling of nostalgia when I do that. As for prelit, I can take it or leave it. The one thing I dislike is flocked. It's just so messy.
I hope you all have a great Christmas season. Take care.

Love either set of lights. We have a pre-lit tree because as much as I adore lights, especially with other lights off, is hanging them and taking them down 😂

I refuse to buy a pre-lit tree just for the fact that I might have to deal with the bulbs going out 😂

That is one reason I love your channel so much: your genuine enthusiasm for cooking! Lots of content creators have become so arbitrary by promising the simplest, fastest and yummiest recipes all the time. It‘s great to have people like you, who are really passionate about their content and can motivate and inspire others!

That is a really good point. I feel Rachel Ray taught me how to cook. My mom was convivence food queen! And we give her a pass because her childhood was on a farm and they grew, picked, cooked, canned, hatched ALL their own food. Twice a year she got a Hershey bar when her dad went to town to sell the cows. That was the only purchased food they ever had!

I love your tradition with giving the kids an ornament each year and being a new mum this year, I have adopted that tradition. This year I went to the pottery painting place and painted his footprint on an ornament to remember his first Christmas ♥️
Also to me it feels like we went from spring to Christmas over night so your decor match my perception of this year 😂😍

I cooked all through my kids childhood and now teen years and I am confident they can name most if not all fruits and veggies, I made a point to take them shopping with me and letting them pick new things to try. My 16 year old prefers baking over cooking but she can make an amazing homemade pesto and Mac and cheese.

They should be in each and every vlogmas video this year. Thank you so much for sharing the Long John Silver's recipe and dinner. I do have a "Jen tab" for saved recipes in my recipe notebook. Looking forward to the rest of the month with you. Thanks for sharing a video, spending some time with us, and giving us tips along the way. You are appreciated! Take care, see you soon. ⛄

Great video Jen. You had me laughing out loud a few times. The first was when you were tasting the whiskey and had to follow it up with a cheese chaser. That would have been me as well. The other time was when Milo clearly was not having you pet Murphy. What a funny boy. I think cooking from fresh ingredients is becoming a lost art. Parents are either trying to make ends meet and are doing the best they can so that may mean more pre packaged foods. Also, people are exhausted after working all day. They don’t have the energy or time to cook from scratch. Plus, schools cut our home economics (at least in Canada they did).

YES! Cooking is becoming a lost art. I cook EVERY night. It is amazing how many people eat out or convenience food daily. When my daughter's friends come for dinner, they think it is the best thing ever even if it is a simple meal. And I bake often. My daughter would rather have homemade. And kids do not have a clue about healthy foods and produce. They have no clue where food comes from.

I grew up in a cooking household, because we were poor and my mom worked as a kitchen cook/manager my whole childhood. We still had a bunch of random things to heat and eat, esp during the summer when both parents were out working and we fended for ourselves all day (ahhh the late 80s/early nineties haha). Both of my sisters and I love to cook, and my 20 year old prefers to bake but also enjoys cooking. My 18 year old on the other hand… the easier the better. 😅

To be fair her mum and her dad (my son) were both good cooks. Love your vlogmas and seeing your dogs. Thanksgiving was so interesting. We don’t have it in Australia. Next holiday Christmas. Yay. My mother cooked every night of my life til I left home at 17. I really didn't know how to cook much. I remember not really learning how til I had to feed myself and a 1 yo kiddo! Did I cook well? Nope! But, we didn't die! Lol! But sometimes I didn't know what something was and was afraid to ask so I just winged it! But most of my learning has come with the advent of PBS's cooking shows! Justin Wilson, Julia Child, and Yan Can Cook!!!! I learned a lot and have been working on my skills to this day! I'm 74 now and just taught my niece how to make greens this year! But, my bestie taught me and was so proud to share it with her!

Yes, I believe complete homemade food cooking is a lost art. I’m a cookbook queen. I grew up with my grandma canning and grandparents and my mom cooking from scratch. We actually went to a Thanksgiving, this year, where the stuffing was boxed, gravy was canned, rolls were bought. It was fine and we enjoyed it. I brought pies and I was asked if my crust was from scratch. Yes, I’m in my pie baking era right now. My own daughter rarely makes much food from scratch. I’m a huge baker and my child is not. It makes me sad. She has never had an interest. Who will inherit my thousands of cookbooks!?! lol 😂

From what I hear from other people, not as many people “cook” these days. People act like it’s a big deal when I make homemade meatballs. 😂 As for the cashier, times have changed from when I worked in a grocery store in high school. We were tested on the produce before we were allowed to work a register. I remember having to study the types of lettuce because my parents only had iceberg lettuce when I was growing up. I didn’t know what the heck endive and radicchio were. 😂

    My mom hated to cook.
Generally speaking, meat was always way overdone. Like not just dry it was often black. Pasta wasn't served unless it was velveeta mac and cheese or if it was the 2x per year giant spaghetti pot. We primarily had mashed or baked potatoes with some sort of meat and a canned veggie (corn, creamed corn, peas, or green beans) Breakfast for dinner (eggs, a meat, toast) was like the special treat of the week. Lunches were always a sandwich with chips. Breakfast was always cereal. Only fruit we had would either come in a can or it would be bananas.
When I became a teen and got into cooking we finally started having a little more variety with different pasta dishes. I also introduced my parents to enchiladas. I didn't try broccoli until I was 18!

I always have but I am not above some convenience items for sure. I mean I am not a food snob so we have frozen foods available. My boys friends all enjoy eating at my house especially the ones whose mothers are not good at or don’t have the time to cook like I do. Although, because I cook from scratch with real ingredients and have been most of my life I don’t find it anymore time consuming to cook that way. I will say meal planning makes it easier in my opinion. I’m not rigid with the plan but it does let me know I have all the necessary ingredients for a meal.

Hi Jen❤ yes I kind of do think “cooking” is becoming a lost art. I feel that at least my kids have certain things that they would like to eat instead of my actually cooking for them. They usually pop open the freezer and ask me to put something in the oven for them. My kids aren’t familiar with everything but then they also know other types of foods that I never heard of. My son would rather eat a gyro off a food truck than me frying up pork chops. I think I spoiled my sons with a lot of fast food places when they were young too, because it was just easier and I was exhausted.

Girl! The veggie/fruit issue at the grocery store has happened more than once when I've gone shopping, it's shocking to me. I do see that fast food is more the norm these days though 😢

OMG if you want to engage me, this talk is interesting. i am way older but the other thing is people may make their kids meals from scratch but they're not teaching them how to cook or having them doing anything, knowing ingredients, etc. It's like cleaning their room or anything else. It may seem like being such a helpful providing mom or parent, but they are learning no life skills, gaining no knowledge. Do they need it? Not necessarily but all should know how to survive without electricity, convenience foods, a computer, a car, a calculator even, all sorts of things. Not anything anyone wants but it can happen.
I was baking by some single digit age and prepping supper, could cook the basics.
Like will happen to you, it's hard to understand further generations, it happens to us all eventually. My thing the last decades even was fast food employees not knowing to put a napkin in a bag. These days I watch a cooking channel that she does her kids lunches a lot as one of her weeklies, I won't name her and most probably wouldn't know of her, it's not a big channel but really like her and the nicest kids, etc. But she only sends a napkin with them when they have like syrup or something messy. To me I never not have a napkin, and I mean just a paper one, with any meal and my kids were brought up that way, just like wearing a seat belt. Is a napkin an extra unneeded thing nowadays???
This kind of subject coiuld lead to a lot of discussion lol.
We havve a meatloaf pan and a popcorn bowl as to your other. The dog brought the meatloaf pan home LOL. Seriously. Carried it from the neighbors probably, probably found something in it outside and grabbed it. It became one of our best loved pans through our childhood and of my mom's. it was well made for its day. Also had a popcorn pan. Etc.
AS far as I'm concerned, you are touching on every viewer talking of these kinds of things. Of all ages. Guaranteed your parents had way more convenience foods than my folks had access to but even then yours were not the convenience foods of today. Meaning one may still need to open a box or a can lol.
I'm just saying it's a good road to talk of that all can relate to I think. Your last one too was good and touched on this kind of thing. Older recipes, etc. Kudos for it. I could go on and on but will stop.
My kids who are 30s and 40s (early) know their foods. and ingredients. That's one thing I did right. And know how to cook. Also aren't picky eaters.

On the food question. We all grew up with processed things, but we cooked too. I think it has a lot to do with the parents not bringing the kids in on the cooking process. I am not sure why. It's not because of work because my mom worked and went to school and still taught us things. I think it is just a shift in attitude. I don't understand people who say they can't cook. Anyone can cook, you just have to put time into it.

You both are so adorable 🥰 The idea of knowing where and how your meals are put together ( the frozen foods isle has turned into four since the 80s!) Definitely a lost art. Don't know the vegetables, herbs or even cuts of meat. No home economics at schools and latch key set ups and daycares where are you going to learn about the food you eat.

Re: the cooking is a "lost art" - an important factor you're leaving out is that you're an elder Millennial/almost Gen Xer...when we were in school, we still had Home Ec and/or Family & Consumer Sciences. We were taught in school some basic cooking skills. We also had our grandparents (silent Gen) teaching us how to scratch cook because they watched us a lot. Kids these days, born to Mid and Early Millennials, don't have that privilege because those Millennials have to work **constantly** in order to keep up with bills. We're tired...so we rely on those ready made meals a LOT more than our Stay-At-Home-Mom Boomer parents...who DON'T watch their grandkids (even though they dumped us off all the time to their parents). Home Ec/FCS has been eliminated from most schools to put more emphasis on reading and math so they can hit the Standardized testing metrics (don't even get me started on how much of a money grab all of these Standardized tests are...) It's all part of a long-game set up by the Republican party to dismantle the rounded education to make people more stupid and helpless and be able to think less critically. It's really not hard to make those connections.
