Love to train on Vancouver island rather than Quebec and Halifax.......much warmer! :) Excellent options to complete Mod's 1 and 2.

Awesome videos sir, just started watching your videos. Subscription added, so i'm planning on joining the Royal Canadian Navy reserves next year when you say that the expenses are covered for getting from one place to the other does it also include basic training? And when you are travelling do you wear your uniform from your hometown to the base you are going to for future training or exercises?

@@XCimenaticGaming great questions! Yes in the reserves travel and expenses are covered for all training courses including BMQ. You usually do not need to wear your uniform for travel. There have been a couple of rare exceptions in my experience.

@@PrairieSailor Alright thanks for letting me know! So one last thing is it possible to become a boatswain in high school as that i something I see myself doing throughout my high school period if possible? This would be super cool!

@@XCimenaticGaming Yes, you can start in the Naval Reserve if you are 16, completed grade 10, and have parental consent.

How long is the NETP? It comes after module 3 at Valcartier? Also you said men had to be clean shaved but I see a lot of beards in the video. Was it just for your first basic training? Thank you.

NETP is 5 weeks and yes happens after BMQ mod 3. The policy has changed since I made this video, being clean shaven is no longer required.

Coming from Army to Navy. Still makes no sense why we have to spend any time at all in Valcartier. Even makes no sense at all to do mod 3 similar to Army when afterward most probably will never see that again. It would make more sense to all Navy people either do a focus Navy mod 3 and perhaps do some NETP in BC or NS. Not even mentioned how dumb it is to do field with NCD and no cadpat.

Lots of good points. I think they do BMQ in Valcartier because it is near Naval Reserve Headquarters. I did mine in Borden, so also not very Naval. Army style training is done at every level, not just BMQ. Primary Leadership Qualification for promotion to Master Sailor is army based as well, and the Air Force is in the same boat as us. That's how the CAF does it, consistent Basic and Leadership training for everyone. Naval Environmental Training paired with BMQ is a great idea, I did the firefighting portion of NETP at the end of my BMQ in 2005. Field training in NCDs is not ideal, but we won't have to worry about that anymore as we are transitioning to NECU, Naval Enhanced Combat Uniform.

@Prairie Sailor thanks PO for taking into consideration some of the points. As a new Bosun, and after being for over a year with the Navy, I noticed that is one of the reasons why people get discouraged with this particular trade. Nowadays, and with so many civil opportunities, this particular trade within the Navy takes forever to move within the ranks compared to other trades in the same branch. especially if there is family in between, and all what is related. Hopefully, with all the new changes, training opportunities for Bosun could come to the light and expedite the process.
