    Amazing comparison Max! I almost fell over when I heard how close they are in price, the Honda one definitely feels like you're paying for quality in design, engineering, and manufacturing... The Kuryakyn seems like you're paying for.. their margin! Super helpful video, thank you as always :)

      I actually was able to get the Kuryakyn rack at about $100.00 of that retail price! It is a good comparison though. If I ever need to switch though, the Kuryakyn uses the Honda stock mounting position.

    Max keep keeping us informed. The last thing that I bought from Kuryakyn was foot pegs and the Perfect Storm Exhaust at the Laughlin River Run in 2012. No complaints, but I tend to stay from their products now...Mike Roland did great work when he was there.

    The kuryakyn rack actually has a bigger footprint so it would be easy to put an oversize/ heavy bag which hangs over the edge of the trunk lid adding more stress. The Honda rack is made well, although I put a pad over their rubber as it marked all the time. They say you get what you pay for, in the case of the Kuryakyn, you don't with a $25 difference in cost.

    Good review. I got the Kuryakyn rack (in black) on sale at about $ 100 less than that retail price. The Hondaline rack is definitely heavier with the way it is constructed. My decision was based 70% on looks and 30% on the fact that the Kuryakyn rack uses the same mounting positions as the Hondaline rack. If I ever have a problem I will be able to switch to the Honda rack fairly quickly. I also like and have installed the Goldstrike Trunk light with integrated brake and turn signals. Possibly one day I will get to test the rack on a long trip.

    I had the Hondaline luggage rack ORDERED and INSTALLED by Honda dealership BEFORE taking delivery of my 2018 Honda Goldwing Tour DCT. :)

      It's a VERY popular accessory.

    I installed the Hondaline rack on my '19 and the kit came with everything except the gas struts you showed. So that was a surprise t me. Robert L. noted that the Hondaline rack has a smaller footprint and I agree. I bought a new bag for the rack but it is too large with the rear hanging over the back of the rack. Overall I'm please with the Hondaline rack. Last comment, I added the seq light bar to mine and it was a challenge to get the rubber pieces secured to the rack after attaching the bar.

    • @Traxxion
      @Traxxion  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, adding the light adds a big level of technical difficulty in the assembly process.

      The rack is smaller and I don't want a tall bag on it, I use a S&S Grimer 50L pack on the passenger seat and a nelson rigg 15L wp bag which holds 6 days of stuff. I ride alone so packing is not that much of a challenge (we'll going on 10 days of travel is tough)

    I have the hinda line black one for my Non tour 2020. I was very surprised at the quality of it. It's different from these ine you are showing because of the non tour.
    As alway Max, good comparison vid. Thanks for sharing.

    Hi Max. I've a Kury rack on my 2004 fitted by a previous owner. Typical Kury chrome which can't cope with UK weather so I thought I'd investigate having it rechrome but the 4 Phillips fixing screws have tiny heads and one is seazed so I've had to leave it for fear of cracking the trunk lid.
    I'll bet the Hondaline chrome is way superior. Over $300? Crazy.

    Thanks, and good job Max. The Kury rack is larger, but that just accentuates the likelihood of some sort of failure due to its inferior design features. I had their prior design on my ‘16 and two prior Wings and regularly loaded 30-35 lbs with never a failure. But as you point out, the support system was beefier on that model. I’ve refrained from installing a rack on my ‘18, but that’s due to the size limitation of the Honda product. There’s not much you can load on a small footprint like that.

    • @Traxxion
      @Traxxion  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that's the point... you aren't supposed to put 35 pounds on the trunk lid!!! :)

      @@Traxxion 200k+ on 3 Wings...’08, ‘12, ‘16, and never any damage. BUT, I never ride on really bad bumpy roads. I suspect that would really stress it out. I recently saw “Million Mile Phil’s” 610,000 mile ‘15. Both sides of his top box were cracked just outside of the hinges. He repaired using a hammered out old license plate and screws. He doesn’t have a luggage rack, nor does he ever attach anything to the trunk lid. So go figure. He was really annoyed that he needed to replace his alternator at 500k. And rear drive at the 610,034 mile mark. One month prior to his extended warranty expiration. At 79 yo, (I think) THERE is a dedicated rider.

    • @Traxxion

      @@dennism665 That's some crazy mileage! Anyone who is mad about replacing anything on a motorcycle after 200K miles is just being ridiculous. I don't pay any attention to people like that. Usually the type that will drive 200 miles to save $.79 on an oil filter so they can brag about how cheap they are...

    The Honda rack is well made but completely useless and I'm sorry that I bought it. for 2-up riding any useful bag is too big and hangs over the back of it and wobbles constantly.
    Thanks to this review I'll get the Kury rack. BTW it's aluminum not plastic!

    Max, no surprise here. I've owned a few Kuryakyn products in the past and never again. "Under engineered" to say the least. Very little thought goes into their products.

    I put the Honda line LR on a Corbin lid. Kinda scary but worked well. Added a rear brake light too. For me the hardest part was not losing hardware while replacing the struts! Nice knife, Benchmade?
