Content like this is the reason why Divide et Impera is becoming more famous. Man, if CA decides to make Rome 3, Divide Et Impera should be the canon gameplay. The level of difficulty on how armies should be managed, recruited is damn awesome. 🙌🏻
Perhaps an option for hardcore players. CA still needs to make a profit so the gameplay would still be somewhat simple enough for casual players. Or CA should just give even more support for modders since modders already provide tons of overhauls for free.
Idt there could be a Rome three since that’s basically what Atilla was. There’s no Roman history left to cover really. They kind of whir themselves in the foot with some of the DLC if they ever thought about making 3 (which makes me think it was never happening)
I like the map markers and the map, it allows you to communicate and show stuff a lot more clearly. I would like to see the enemy army covered as well but that’s just me, (mostly Cus that’s the standard) though you never know might make the battles more enjoyable.
Thanks for the feedback mate! I know it is the standard to go over the enemy army but I actually didn't enjoy that when I watched other online battles. Not only did it take a lot of extra time up before the battle started (especially for like 2v2s) but I felt like I was yelling at my screen a lot because I knew they were making mistakes against the opponent because I knew the army build. Whereas in reality if I were the player I wouldn't have that benefit myself. What do you think if I did a general coverage of the army? E.g. "The enemy army has a main line of swordsmen with X units of cav, x units of skirmishers and no spears". Its probably just me overthinking this and I'll probably just end up giving the army comps to viewers :P
Absolutely great to see this battle! Please go on with this content! Many thanks to both of you. By the way, you said:"... no reason to take hoplites if you can get phalangites..." Now painfully recognized the advantages of hoplites...
Haha I have indeed learned a fair bit about how hoplites can be better in specific situations. BUT I still think pikemen are better in many ways. The only real tangible reason I would use a hoplite instead is to tank more skirmisher fire from skirmisher-type armies. In my Parthian campaign though I've still been able to decimate the hoplites with little issue.
@@Immersaholic you are absolutely right. As I am used to only play Greek factions like Epirus, Seleucid Empire, Bactria or Macedon, my main battle line is always pikes. There is nothing better to pin the enemy in the center and focus on the flanks and finally the rear of the enemy force. With pikes a decent number of long range units, e.g. Rhodian Slingers are almost a must have to counter enemy fire. This forces your enemy to attack.
Historically seen, e.g. Pyrrhus at Heraclea used a huge number of hoplites to support his army. The ratio is, according to Plutarch, 1 hoplite to 4 phalangite. If we consider that a syntagmata consists of 256 soldiers while hoplites units have been much smaller, the ratio of hoplite to phalangite units might be 1 : 3 or even less. The same figures we can find for Ptolemaic and Seleucid armies. Only for the Macedonians under Philipp or Alexander it seems that phalangite were the mass of the army. If we take your battle, how could Alexander with his army stand up to the Persians with their huge number of archers? Honestly I never found any good explanation anywhere.
But finally the reason for the remain of a huge number of hoplites in a Greek army may be the longer time needed to train the soldiers to work together as a unit if used as phalangites. As cohesion is the key element. Compared to this training a levie army of hoplites can be established and trained in a very short period.
@@andresalphie5400 Interesting input mate thanks a lot for it! I wish I had more time to read direct historical sources more. I too have always wondered how things like masses of archers didn't decimate the phalanx of Alexander. I know Parthia was a very different beat to Achaemenid Persia but they handled the Romans extremely well in the field. A phalanx would be far slower and less flexible than a Legion too.
A very interesting battle of faction one have decent roster for a Barbarian Sword Rush tactic and the Other a Faction that have amazing Spears but barely any hammer to hammer the hot metal against the anvil
love the vids bro esp the faction overviews rly useful as so many units which is amazing but can be overwhelming. Cant wait for the top 5 hoplite vid ;) (maybe include how to use hops as well cuz im rubbish with them)
Pikemen are tough to use in online battles. I usually screen them with slinger to counter other ranged units, or intersperse them with lighter and quicker units
@@Immersaholic yes, I think the gameplay of the total war games heavily favours roman armies over pikes or hoplites. For understandable gameplay reasons you are able to micro manage even supposedly undisciplined units immediately and react on the fly to any situation, which plays right into the roman playstyle. I would love to see an rts that simulates how difficult it was to communicate and move on the battlefield. If 90% of your roster is hard to command, then having an immovable object like a phalanx or pike wall suddenly becomes a lot more viable. It wod also make it so much more enjoyable to play as the highly disciplined and flexible Romans.
pikemen can kill ungodly amount's of foes but they need alot of support to do so if your going pike heavy you need alot of slingers to force the foe to attack on your terms
Yeah its possible they faced some Celts during the great Celtic migration into Anatolia but even then I doubt Sparta would've had many men involved. Sparta was requested to me by a couple viewers though so I thought I'd make the effort to try them :) Any other faction suggestions for battles are always appreciated!
I know people ask you this a lot and it can get annoying, but please tell me what I do to make the textures of the units gorgeous looking like yours. I set all the settings to maximum but the unit clothing and shield still has that "144p" looks.
Not annoying at all mate :) Well all it should take is having unit details at very high/extreme. Make sure your shader setting is at 5 and of course make sure you have Divide Et Impera installed correctly. I hope this helps!

I'm happy with that though, seeing comments from people as passionate as I am about the game is what makes me love this so much. I love sharing my stories and being able to talk about them with you all!
I dont find pikes that Crazy yes in campaign u Can défend Cities and u Can use them as a Frontline while u flank whit Swords etc but they dont kill u either need to use the top tier pikes or to micromanage them so much
Yeah the Pikes can be very iffy. I think generally their very powerful because they can effectively stop the enemy from even touching your front line. That's pretty incredible in itself and doesn't necessarily rely on them having a high kill rate for the money to be worth it. The micromanagement is incredibly difficult though.
Don't forget to send in your own DEI online replays if you'd like the community to see them!

Two titans of warfare battling it out.
