Superman can be relatable. He doesn’t need to be edgy, he doesn’t need to be dark. Perhaps the world around him can be, but it’s the way he can traverse through the darkness holding a torch for anyone lost within that make him a great character.
Would have loved Zack Snyder to just make a live action adaptation of Birthright instead mismatching various different stories with conflicting messages.
Agreed!
Dang bro, woke up and started spitting facts.
Superman isn't a character who should evolve (At least, not after his origin)
His character should be the one changing others. He's an unchanging protagonist through and through
@@monty_coolmccool I see you are also spitting facts.
@@ripvanwinkle91 I don’t see much of Birthright in BvS if any.
I remember reading this story so many times in High School because it was so good I’m surprised it hasn’t been made into an animated movie yet
Birthright and secret origin are both amazing but for me the best origin will always be All star, it’s like poetry
Please check out " American Alien."
Each comic covers a different time in Clark/ Kal'el life, from early childhood and becoming Superman.
All-Star superman is more about the end of his journey
All star isn't really an origin it's literally the last months of his life and career
@@mattemery4081 still it should be taught in school
Disagree. I liked this more.
I feel like if they dumped the whole BvS idea as a sequel and went with a Man of Steel sequel it would have been an amazing movie if they based it off this comic obviously not using a lot origin stuff. They would have been successful and switching the tone, making a better Lex, and continuing Clarks arc from an inexperienced Superman into the one we all know.
i don't know, i think that Lex is fine, is actually good, he's almost a copypaste of this Lex from birthright series
People should know this why BvS lex luthor is like a crazy man
Smallville lex had the red hair first
@@AetheriteDark ok so.....? what does that add to the above comment?
@@igbotimehopper64yearsago46 its funny
"take a lesson spiderman" LOL!!!
I gasped when you called out Spider-Man for not saving Gwen… and then you rolled the clip
This is a GREAT video!!!! You just earned a subscriber!!! This is one of my favorite books & you did such a great job!!!
wow...
This was an amazing story.
This honestly has to be be my favorite origin for Superman.
I honestly was never that big of a Superman fan, but over the past couple of years i've actually developed quite the soft spot for him.
Thank for sharing this video my man, its stories like this that give me an even greater appreciation for certain characters.
Now this needs to be made into a movie.
If Man of steel 2 is a reboot, this needs to be it.
“Superman: birthright” is IMO in the top 5 best Superman stories ever
I feel like this Superman is like 50s Superman where he is kind of an asshole to bad guys and stops social menaces like domestic abuse.
Dude i want more of this superman that shots criminals and stops the bullet to teach them a point, sometimes the "blue boyscout" is just to much.
The art work is really stunning... The artist Leinil Francis Yu describes his own art style as Dynamic Pseudo Realism

Wish you said what Jimmy actually said, lol.
Paraphrasing, but something along the lines of “the resolution on those photos is so high that in order to fake them would be the equivalent of counterfeiting a $20 bill out of crayon.”
Please James Gunn. Give us this!
Oooohhh.... Now I know where Snyder got the Africa part from.
....
He must've only looked at the pictures though to be honest...
Rip Kobe
Oh man that ending gets me every time. It makes no sense temporally but that doesn’t matter to my heart lol I’m not crying you’re crying
Love your videos, Their always so entertaining. Keep it up
One of the best" i made it" moment
In the words of mr. Popo TFS " Wow that was crazy!"
I just finished reading this comic and it's easily my favorite superman comic, and is a new addition to my favorite comics of all time
The ending got me man 🥲
24 hrs later. Lex is out of prison Legally
24:43 was uncalled for
26:33 That does make for quite a touching scene, but what time travel shenanigans in particular took place that Kal-El's parents were able to receive a message from an adult Kal-El? Or did they actually just stand there while their planet exploded for thirty years or so?
Some panels of Clark Kent look kinda like Chris Pine, kinda wish this would've been a movie
That last scene got me
Good stuff!
So basically, this book is what those shit-fuckin movies should have been..
Cool story, GREAT ARTWORK, charming and charismatic characters..damn, I could have saved some money and personal embarrassment, as well as not having to see my heroes demoralized, and just just
That's a very oddly shaped blanket.
This is what I think would make the best modern Superman movie
I always had a few issues with this origin. Some of the character depictions just felt off, like Jonathan Kent acting like that.
That was amazing
Oh fuck I didn't even know that I had birth right comic even after reading it, I bought it somewhere around 2003
Birthright was an awesome story arc.
Such a simple story but the movie studios nowadays couldn't even do it right
Simple?
Lore of What Is... Superman's Ultimate Origin - Superman Birthright momentum 100
I feel like DC misunderstood why Ultimate Spiderman worked.
Spiderman started out as a high school kid and grew up as the comic ran. There were some problem with that since they kept his personality so Peter often comes around as rather immature and whiny (just look on "one more day"), Rebooting him to be a teenager again since they had cut off the wedding with MJ made sense and at least initially it was very popular. They still make him rather young in all the movies as well.
Superman on the other hand have always been the same age except in a few stories (somewhere a bit undefinable between 25 and 35) so the only thing they did here was to change some minor parts of his story to be more like in "Smallville". There was no need for this, no one wanted it and to top it up was the writing pretty bad.
So yeah, they retconned it. I don't understand why DC constantly must retcon the origin story of their most popular heroes, they are popular because they have good origin stories. I could see if they cut out some things that doesn't work today (the view of females were pretty dated during the golden age and more then a few things comes out as a little racisty) but don't screw with the things that are really good.
Heyy I like how Lex tried to deal with Superman that's definitely a Lex thing to do lol
I think Man of Steel has the same vibe as Birthright
Did they do one where he was a NAVY seal
Birthright was okay but has several flaws. And it's definitely not the 'ultimate Superman origin'. If you really want the ultimate Superman origin, you have to get everything by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster (collected in the Golden Age Omnibus vol 1 and/or Golden Age trades vols 1 and 2). That's it.
This would have been an infinitely better movie than what we got in Man of steel
Yea no MOS is still better than this, but this is very good tho
@@igbotimehopper64yearsago46 dumbass
@@igbotimehopper64yearsago46 cap
Wow they did Jonathan Kent dirty.
This isn't the new Superman Origin it actually is the Superman Earth 1 origin of him
Not exactly
I can see why lex is a villain he was ginger AND bald like it makes sense he'd turn evil
Man of Steel should have been based on this comic
Jeremy Valery from what I understand, ‘Man of Steel’ was based on Superman Earth 1. Which is certainly a damn good story
@@logan6034 yeah I know but the comic book Superman earth one is waaaaaay better then the movie Man of Steel it sucked
I think it was n the end , there were inspirations from this comics in the movie , and the movie was done really well.
@@mrHunleashesHELL no it wasn't the book is better
@@mrHunleashesHELL yes there were similarities in this but the movie failed to make it work
And Superman Birthright's sequel have Supes get over his vegetarianism, likely from rehabs
11:49 maybe I don't understand superman/my own politics are getting in the way but...IS THAT REALLY WHAT SUPERMAN WOULD DO? I know he has no intention of killing him but would he even run the risk.
Wouldn't it be more superman like go "you know what based on what you just told me. You're not fit to own a gun." And destroy the guys firearms then report him for his connections?
I am, generally, tentatively in favor of greater restrictions on gun ownership; I agree that this entire scene is pretty fucked up and weird for someone like Superman to do. I don't really think that having Superman prioritize feelings of revenge over the safety of a human being makes a lot of sense, especially not when it's feelings of revenge being leveled against a stereotype of a group that the author doesn't like. Having Superman fire a gun at someone to teach them a lesson is, like, something that you'd see in a comic written before people started getting introspective about superheroes.
Honestly, beyond how out of character it is for Superman in particular, I feel like a character who points a gun at someone they don't intend to kill is not a character who is a good mouthpiece for any sort of message about gun control. Really weird segment.
Reminds me BR is akin to the style of Aeon Flux
Wait, so all of the Krypton forces, besides Van-gar, were illusions? Did Lex pull them from the images shown from the Kryptonite?
do what is Superman Secret Origin
i dont like that jonathan is like kinda a asshole, and how superman is like weirdly a vengeful. mabey its just the artist but they make him look evil
He just started his career
Yeah.. BvS:Dawn of Justice RALLY missed how this story worked. It would had been great material though
I love this comic. The story was very modern
Wait that's it? I was expecting something to be said about it not someone just reading it
16:35 hahaha
“What is Superman birthright?”
Probably one of the top 3 Superman stories ever is what it is.... The Death of Superman was thee greatest comic of all, and most epic, emotional storyline ever written, withOUT debate. But Birthright is right up there...... BOTH of them completely shit all over the insanely overrated Dark Knight Returns, All Star Superman and all of the other overly hyped mainstream critic favorites.... TDKR was important, we get that. But it was not in any way “the best comic of all” or even anywhere remotely close to that.... it’s a critic favorite. That’s it. Like I said, it’s super important because it gives us the badass Batman we all know and love , but that’s about it.... Batman: Year One was the real Batman story of the 80s, not DKR......And yea, even though Death of Supes is a critic fav as well and known as a top 5 story ever in their eyes as well, It’s ten-fold better than the complete shit they pick for the top 5s and 10s in every way.... Ask almost any ACTUAL comic reader/DC watcher and Superman fan, and they will ALL tell you The Death of Superman is THEE best comic of all. Period........ and, I mean Maus is story about an important cause and all. But it is in NO POSSIBLE WAY “one of the best ever” , there’s so many that just do not even remotely belong on any greatest of list that these ppl put so high for who knows what reason. They literally just repeat what they’ve heard by other critics and haven’t even READ half of the other amazing DC stories, like Batman: Ego, and Death of The Family/Endgame... which are easily the 2 best Batman stories Period.... or any other great one for that matter. It’s hilarious honestly....
But anyways, Birthright here.... Mark Waid knows how to write Superman... maybe not quite like Paul Dini and Dan Jurgens.. but then again nobody could in that regard.. Jeph Loeb is a hell of a Superman writer as well. The dude knows Superman and The Bat.
But all in all, Sorry for the rant, but Birthright is definitely one of the best comics ever written. Like I said, That’s not a debate.
Oh and btw, Your videos and “reimaginings” make my sides hurt. Can’t ever quit fuckin laughing.
My top 3:
Death of superman
Whatever happened to the man of tomorrow
All star superman
As an origin it's not great
This was amazing actually. I dont care for all star... i loved this tho.
Cover Superman: American Alien
19:11 never trust lex Luthor.
Too convoluted to be a definitive origin if you ask me, makes sense why they rewrote it
🎉🎉🎉
cool stuff man consider me subscribed
Why you have to do Spider-Man dirty like that!?
Jonathan is just obnoxious in this timeline
Take a lession spider-man was diabolical
Spider-Man can’t fly not fair blame Gwen Stacy death on him.
You are way better than cimicstorian
Hey I’m American citizen
Here my green card
The way you tell this story sounds like you hate Superman...........
This is disgusting.
Is the art style deliberately shitty?
i dont see any problem with it
So Lex forgot Clark and Smallville because he's arrogant?! Jeez. Pretty lazy story writing.
