Thats easy to explain. He can do that because he loves it. He loves his Touhou Project. Not because hes after the profit like 99% of the other people in this world.
Yeah, he has a stable full-time job, he earns enough for himself and his family. He made Touhou mainly due to his passion and love he has for Touhou, that what I love about Zun, he's not after profit like other developers or music composers
i found him quite good at everything he do , even his drawing it give touhou some unique style but that's personal opinion so it doesn't really count isn't it ? maybe he meant to do classic anime/manga style but it doesn't turn this way , he created the ZUN style ^^

It may not be exactly what you find in animes or manga, but it is very similar, saying that, anime cartoons use slightly different art work for their character designs anyway

Touhou 12.3, 12.5 and 12.8 aren't spinoffs of 12. ;P 12.3 is more like a standalone expansion to 10.5, 12.5 is like a sequel to 9.5 and 12.8 is a "Vertical Danmaku Freezing Game".
Uh, ZUN's art is as close as he can get with his low level of drawing skill (he can't be good at everything, obviously.) Just look at the pixel art of the original PC-98 games. It's obviously meant to be standard anime/manga style.
