I get off work at 11pm and go fish my pond. I usually don't catch much but there's nothing like fishing a quiet pond in the dark with just your thoughts and the occasional bass to keep you company.
Lifetime Night bassin' fanatic. Started in 1960.. Almost 70 years old, still doing it today...Not as easy recovery though...lol... Usually, I'll fish the dusk til dawn bite windows. This Spring, fished four 10 to 11 hour trips in a row the 4 days leading up to the Full Moon for incoming pre-spawners. took a week to recover.... With bodies of water with high numbers of bait, the second bite window always better. season within season variables apply. I spent 52 years fishing the Northeast, but now living in the Southwest with the heat and blazing sun and primarily clear water impoundments with ridiculous boat traffic, night bassin' is all I do all season from March thru November. The peace and solitude, along with the great bite is the only way to go.. Always enjoy your videos !
The thing I like about night fishing is no sunblock is required.I love the sounds of the night like owls hooting and frog’s croaking. You can use a black light and make 10lb line look like rope and you can see the slightest bite. Dale hollow is my favorite lake to night fish in July. A Stan Sloan spinnerbait is hard to beat in 3/4 oz purple or black.fished on 17lb line with a pork chuck. I plan my trips around the full moon. Also make sure to leave your running lights on or the water patrol will give you a ticket. Cool nights and less boat traffic makes night fishing one of my favorite times to fish and not to mention the smallmouth will jerk your arms out socket when they hit the spinnerbaits.👍😎❤️🎣
I’ve just started bass fishing about less than 2 months in. I took your advice on night fishing and actually caught my PB 4lbs bass and a couple 2lbs in just couple nights on my black blue spinner bait from shore! A lot to learn but been binge watching your videos. Thank you so much for your knowledge and experience 🙏
I’ve seen several comments on the success of a black Jitterbug at night which I totally agree with. Another old school lure that I’ve caught big ones at night is a black Hula Popper. The black 10 1/2” Zoom Ole Monster is probably my favorite. Good stuff Randy. Thanks
i love fishing at night it’s just a different experience like it feels like with diminished vision your other senses are just so heightened i’m so hyper focused on the vibrations the sounds you really FEEL the actions of the lures and you FEEL the rod because there’s no other clues to rely on it feels like another world
Sometimes when out hunting for a cheap spinner bait in a store, you may only find a white or yellow Spinner available at low prices. To correct the issue and make the bait darker for night fishing is to have a felt pen available and just darken the dress-skirt with the felt pen. You can make it whatever grade of darkness you wish it to be, and still be able to fish at night with a spinner, or jig that is dark in color, while still saving money on a cheaper priced bait-jig. I've seen $1 spinners being sold at Walmart. They are spinners that the store just wants to sell off cheap. Problem is, most are bright colored spinners, like white and yellow skirts which doesn't do as well as the dark colored shirted rigs for night-time fishing. Felt pen ink will darken the jig up and will not come off while fishing. Saves you a bit of money against the higher priced jigs that are dark in color when sold. Happy cheap-bait fishing....
Single blade black spinner at night has got me my pb. It’s easily the lure I catch the most fish on at night. I hear a lot about big black or junebug senkos but I really don’t get hit on them.
Fishing golf courses at night back in the 80's and 90's was a blast. We'd take a flashlight and shine it on the bank and see all these bass just sitting there, facing the water's edge. Good times.
Caught a 8.5lb night fishing. No lie shined a light walking up to the bank and seen a good sized fish. Killed the light and thru a strike king black and blue river bug , and 1st cast she nailed it! Right after the spawn , so I say she could have been close to double digits pre spawn. Put her back and walked back home. I was good for the night lol
I retired recently and I moved to a town near the southern border. It gets so hot here that night fishing is very popular. A ranger said that they will soon be switching their hours to 2:30 AM because that is when most of the boats are out during the summer months around here. Thanks for the lure tips. I will be trying this next week.
There is a Tuesday night one fish scramble 6-9 on a local lake. If I don’t have a big one when it gets dark I throw a Buzz Bait. The baits you mentioned will get more bites but the Buzz Bait gets the big ones!
its hard to beat fishing a lunker lure buzz bait that has a squeaky blade. one of my favorite ways to fish. nothing like hearing the toilet flush on a quite night.
Here in East Texas, hot summer nights, by far the best bait in the old jitterbug. Beats all other lures. It's not only fish you will catch. My dad caught a big hoot owl.
Back in the day, when I lived on Long Island,NY (over 500 lakes) the best lures were black Jitterbugs, black spinnerbaits and poppers… Great days, and great memories….
When I was younger I would cat fish with my buddy at night. I've never fished for bass at night. I actually plan to start this year beat the heat & lower traffic /fishing pressure. But I don't know much about it I've been reading about it & aquiring some night baits. This is perfect timing on your part to do this video
I was surprised he never mentioned a bladed jig if you have no wind it’s one of the best baits to throw. Also, a swimbait like a magdraft on a beast hook is also good.
I do a lot of night fishing here in CT. I will painfully slowroll a 3/8 oz single colorado deep cup black blade spinnerbait shallow. I will use the largest blade I can get away with without it rolling on me. A plastic trailer also helps to keep the spinnerbait from rolling. I will also put a small amount of glow in the dark fingernail polish on the head of the spinnerbait. I don't use braided line on spinnerbaits because at times the bass will follow right behine it and will just try to flare their gills to suck it in and with braided line it doesn't give a inch. Another bait is a black and blue jig. Sometimes at night the smallies will hit the jig and spit it out before you know it. Most of the time your setting the hook on the feel of them spitting it out because you didn't feel the first pickup and you pull the bait away. Smallies will hit the jig thinking it's a crawfish, crush it in their mouths to break off the claws and spit it out and do it again twice. It's on the 3rd hit that you set the hook. I also use a pompadour topwater bait. That bait will out fish any topwater bait around. Even on nights when there is no topwater activity(Bass busting bait) I will throw it randomly shallow or out in the middle of the lake(smallies) and you will get hits. Main points, lighted docks and lighted beaches are good spots. I don't like a bright moon. Some moonlight is okay. Thanks Randy.
I like the Pompadour suggestion. I can see that being a great night fishing lure. Thanks! Many big bass seekers only fish at night and only use a black buzz bait. 👍🏼🎣
I love/hate night fishing. I don't get to do it enough because I don't have a boat and I'm not in a club, but I do love it. I've wrecked them throwing a wobble head down rocky points at night. Good stuff man!
Spinnerbaits are awesome, I make my own from very thin wire stock which is a big key. All of the big manufacturers' wire stock is too thick and won't vibrate as much. I fish a light blue/black skirt with a netbait paca chunk blue/black trailer. A little wind chop on the water is also very helpful...
I agree but to add here on Rayburn I've done really well on a darker old style Devil's Horse that has both front and back blades up around the buck brush.... it's been a killer for me....
It’s cool you mentioned a devil’s horse. Tomorrow night we have a tournament and I just tied one on. Hardly anyone uses them where I fish so I’m hoping it’s something different and gets their attention!
Black/blue Chatterbait with a black Zoom Fat Albert Twin Tail Grub works great. 9/10 casts nothing but all of a sudden Bam! Also a War Eagle Black single Colorado blade spinnerbait.
Fish a lot at night and have found for Carolina piedmont lakes `10 PM to 2 AM best and again around 430 to 530. On a night you can see the stars clearly with lower humidity the topwater bite will be bad and better to fish bottom with a texas rigged worm or jig. Points I like to fan cast a spinnerbait slow. On nights with high humidity a buzzbait is hard to beat. Night fishing gets great here after about July 4th and on into early October. Steep channel banks and points are normally the best spots. One night in August two of us caught 24 fish over 4 lbs up to 9 pounds using buzzbaits on a lake three or four big ones in a full Spring day would be considered a great day. If I start out on top and don't have action in 15 minutes I fish bottom the rest of the night.
I fish Sutton in Wilmington almost exclusively at night, your time slots are spot on, 10-2is almost always good/great. Poppin frogs , chatter baits, big worms Texas rigged, .. awesome
I work night shift and it’s hard to flip the switch from night back to day. I do it to get up and sunrise in the spring, early summer and fall. But boy I pay for it when I get home and the next day.
Growing up in Arizona we would get to the lake at sundown and fish all night tell the sun came up and we would fish spinners and rattle traps and Texas rig worms and Lizards.
Yes, black soinnerbait. Thin wire, colorado blade. As SLOW as possible. Just enough to turn the blade. Dragging the bottom. Braid is essential to feel this action. If the blade suddenly dles, keep the same speed, it will come back. Second or third hit will be viscous.
I throw a crank bait at night and do pretty good with it. Don't think they want hit a crank bait at night cause they will. Full moon i like to throw solid white double willow leaf blades they will Smash it...
Do u know if guys use lights on thier boats to catch bass, will big spotlight attract them? I know guys owns the bait shop by Clarks hill takes his boat out at night & uses huge led spot lights to attack herring then they cast net the herring n& sell them in thier bait shop
I like to keep things simple at night....no baits with treble hooks....a black and blue spinnerbait with a large black colorado blade.....a 10 inch junebug worm texas rigged...and a junebug trick worm on a 1/4 ounce shakeyhead....
Senkos thrown at night can be dynamite. Toss them to the inside and outside edge of weed beds Let it fall to the bottom. Lift and fall once and repeat. You really need to be in tune with it because you can’t watch the line for visual clues to a bass taking it. Thankfully they tend to hang on to it.
10 inch black worm Texas rigged with a brass weight and glass bead have caught as many flatheads including 30lber as big bass best time has been between 11 pm and 2 am
My brother is the night time anomaly. He can throw the exact opposite of what is supposed to work and make me feel straight stupid. Lol… Like, I would be throwing a big black single Colorado blade and he would always upgrade us throwing a little white tandem willow leaf right behind me. If I switched, it seemed like neither of us did much good. Lol. I still don’t understand and I’m still annoyed it wasn’t me catching them. Lol it was usually big ole 5# and up smallmouth too.
My dad taught me to fish @ night and he loved it up until he passed away @ 86. Lots of reasons why we love it, but its all I do 8 months of the year.
I get off work at 11pm and go fish my pond. I usually don't catch much but there's nothing like fishing a quiet pond in the dark with just your thoughts and the occasional bass to keep you company.
It’s magic man!

Get your self a black jitterbug. Reel it in slow. Hang on

I fish nearly exclusively from bank at night during summer in texas here. I'd love ALOT more nightfishing stuff man
i love fishing at night it’s just a different experience like it feels like with diminished vision your other senses are just so heightened i’m so hyper focused on the vibrations the sounds you really FEEL the actions of the lures and you FEEL the rod because there’s no other clues to rely on
it feels like another world
Lake Catherine and lake Hamilton in Arkansas 10 inch ol monster in June bug any day of the week 💯
The lighted docks makes so much sense. Bugs bring small fish the bass eat.

when i was younger and fished alot at night i used to throw a jitterbug alot...and a single blade black spinnerbait...

I definitely remember the sidearm hookset in case they missed it!
Or a good old fashion black jitterbug

Topwater is pretty good at night as well . Black buzzbait is usually pretty productive.
One of my favorite types of fishing is the buzzbait at night… caught some pigs and so fun when they hit it

Night Fishing - beat the heat and avoid the crowds. Great tips Randy
Love night fishing, thanks!
Black jitterbug is my go to night time bait. Sometimes I throw a buzz bait.

Black jitterbug!! That’s what I used to do
Try the Musky size Jitterbug! 🎣👍🏼
Great idea for a video
Does it make a difference if the blades are black or do you need the flash of gold or silver ????
I like those baits at night! But I also rock them at night on 10 inch worm /brushhog in or near brush piles .
Black/blue Chatterbait with a black Zoom Fat Albert Twin Tail Grub works great. 9/10 casts nothing but all of a sudden Bam! Also a War Eagle Black single Colorado blade spinnerbait.
Ive done well on a J-13 gold and black broke back rapala and a black/silver Choppo
Did u ever fish tournament for a bass club on bull shoals lake?

I’ve tried fishing on the New River here in VA at night for bass and never had any luck. Maybe it’s a lake thing..
Thanks buddy yes I have about 3 tourneys a season at night I fish

Wakebaits and crawlers at night account for most of the 7-9lb fish caught here in MA
I throw a crank bait at night and do pretty good with it. Don't think they want hit a crank bait at night cause they will. Full moon i like to throw solid white double willow leaf blades they will Smash it...

Love fishing under black lights with fluorescent line

A little florescent dip on the ends works well also. Maybe 1/4" on the end or less is all you need

I’ve uses to use worms with a glow tail years ago and knocked them dead🥴
I have to disagree about full moon I've always did better on dark nights with no moon
The darker, the better
Lost 2 big bass last night on live bait still haven't tried jigs
Do you fish tournaments at night ????
Thanks for the tips Randy, and thanks for not letting out the secret on the number 1 night bait 😉
I think its time for bed . No its not 😂😂😂
Chatterbait has been money for me at night. Gotta work on that spinnerbait bite.
I have heard last 20 years to use a jitterbug at nite never had any luck...
Lol nope why does it seem it's never time for bed lol
Nothing but #WhopperPlopper
Guerrilla Fishing
I heard someone once saying you wasn't hitting bottom with the spinnerbait at night you wasn't fishing it right. Is there any truth to this?
I caught my first bass at night after catfishing we did some bass fishing with uncle josh pork eels, can u help us all with using spoons for bass
I can still change lures in the dark lol
