- In all the excitement, I managed to not film priming the injectors and the first start.
I was chosen as consulting engineer on this job because I can set the brushes on Hornby Dublo locomotives and speak no German, therefore exactly the right chap to show a young Frenchman how to get his tractor to run. The battery wasn't turning it over quickly enough, and there was no juice in the injectors, solving that was my contribution.
We will do some research to try to work out how old this wonderful machine is, and there will be future videos as it gets improved.

For this part of the world, when it was new, it was a big tractor. Now of course it is dwarfed by the latest ones. I was just pleased that I remembered enough about diesels to do a couple of tricks they didn't know. They were impressed!
What happens next is another story, putting it right is way too expensive for them, back tyres are about 1,200 Euro each. It needs a service to the water pump or maybe a new one and some little bits and pieces, new flexible hoses and that exhaust sorting out.

Very interesting, a little change of direction. Old Malc would have been in his element. I don't know how he's doing. I saw the rat! Where is Jacob when you need him?
Jacob was at home about 10 miles away. I have now had time to rootle around the internet, these were built between 1962 and 1967, 5,100 of them were made. The engine was not unique to this tractor, so we might be able to get a new exhaust manifold.
We could have done with Malc, none of us know what all the gear type levers do, but, the object of today was to make it run, Francois did drive it backwards and forwards a couple of feet. Putting it back on the road might be way too expensive, needs a complete set of tyres. The book says it is 50HP, but with a lot of low down grunt.
Its crazy how they all got build somewhere in Germany and later appear all over the world
Not as crazy as bringing a tractor from the USA or China! The numbers on this one suggest that it came here when it was brand new.

It is always fun to be presented with a vehicle that won't run and to leave it running! Also fun is that I am older than this tractor but the lads think it is positively archaic. To them, things like priming the injectors is a novelty.
That was exciting! Old machinery is the universal language. It sounds like six angry Germans hammering an anvil... so it must be running right. Congratulations boys.
If we can work out all the 'gear sticks', I think we can have a lot of fun with it.
It is from 1962, weighs 2520 kg and has 50 PS (37 kW). There are two of them in our village here and they are in regular usage.
This one may well be put to work. Exactly what work is another question!
