It actually depends on the line. 90 sec is a Soviet standard still used. Actually, it can even be faster than 90 secs during rush hours, I often catch intervals up to just 40 secs when I travel back from my university siring the evening rush hour. In the morning though, on Sokolnicheskaya line, another train comes just 15 secs after the other left, but it stops by on the station forboarding purposes. I genuinely despise the woman responsible for that high-pitch voice-over. Can't remember the womans name in the Doc, but oh my god her voice-over made me wanna commit.
It's not that big if you think that for example the Munich metro has 100 stations for about 1.5 million inhabitants, while Moscow only has 269 for about 12 million (thank you Ivan) residents. However only the amount of stations isn't a measurement of magnificentness of a metro network - for example the Moscow metro has wider platforms and a higher frequency of trains than the Munich one
@@victornderu143 Well Paris is a whole different story, it is very old and the residents wanted to get rid of the trams in favour of the metro. The network is more than great for only 2 million residents. The problems of the metro are the aging rolling stock (some are from the 50s), the dirty air due to the air-filled tires of the trains (which can also be considered as an advantage due to the smoother ride) and many VERY dirty stations. Most problems are the result of limited funding for the system - which kind of could be expected for a city of this size featuring such an extensive network. Paris metro definitely has the potential of being a world-class metro system, if funding for the maintaining costs increases. For comparison to Paris you could take Hamburg, whose metro only has 93 stations for s similar city population. And many people think that this is not enough. And Hamburgs system is old as well and they got rid of their trams as well - which leaves the city at a lower-class network.
Moscow Metro is definitely a masterpiece, specially when it comes to coordination and thorough thinking. Yet, if you wanna see even most beautiful art than the one available at these stations, then you must visit St. Petersburg
Until 2010, Moskow metro had more km of railway than Romania had motorways, lol. I've never had the pleasure to be on the Moskow metro, but I've stayed in St Petersburg for a month as an international student. If anyone wants a scale of how deep the metro there is, well, for most of the stations, you would spend more time on the escalators getting down than waiting for the train. And you could safely skip a train and wait for the next(I've seen that there are some newer stations, mostly towards the end of the lines, that have a much shallower depth, maybe due to economic reasons)
Soil in the city center is an engineer's nightmare. You have to dig deep, if you want subway to last long, and even after that you have to be very careful… Like with unfortunate “Lesnaya” - “Ploschand Muzhestva” tunnels, which inspired a first Soviet disaster film :)
What reason you have to compare your metropolitane railways with Romanian motorway?,your country it’s full of mafia, corruption, shit Lada cars and very poor economy, from American economic embargo!!!!
Liviu Diaconescu well, Romania is unfortunately the poorest country of Europe and it must be taken as a good reason to improve. And as I hear someone who is talking about sanctions I know perfectly sure he's got a very vague idea what's going on in Russia. In brief they have almost no effect. Just come and see yourself: Moscow has got in fact one of the best and most modern transportation systems (and what's important - one of the biggest) in the world
i had no idea of any of the details, the details about WWII, I am really surprised this is not discussed more. Amazing art and amazingly precise, and for sure if the USA had something like this, they'd never STFU about it!
The "Moscow" trains are so freaking cool. I mean this red and blue model is really called "Moskva" if translated correctly are so quiet and smooth and very informative if you don't know where to go next. Hope they will be used on all lines soon cause now they are used only on the most loaded ones♥️
After ive played the Metro games Metro 2033, Last light and Exodus I've been fascinated about the metro. I actually didn't think it was as big it is in the games/books but it really is huge.

Hi, I'm planning to go to Wien with my wife in December. What should I do, which routes should I take to get the best experience of Viennese tram system? Thanks.
@@themorris5620 oh thank you! I come from a land where the only trams you have are the few remaining routes left from the Soviet era, with railcars 30 to 40 years old, and rails in extremely poor condition. Riding a modern tram is a treat to us.
@@johndavidson4127 In Switzerland the delays for intercity trains are quite common on a daily basis. The light metro versions in the Swiss cities, or trams, run more reliably. But still, the short intervals between the trains/trams, like in Moscow metro are a dream. This, of course, have to take into the account, that the transportation system in Switzerland is not underground, except for transit tunnels, thus more susceptible to the external factors, causing delays. The only European metro system, that is close in its efficiency, elegancy and cleanliness to Moscow metro is in Athens. It is very small, and is not comparable in scale, but for such a small system Greeks made it almost as perfect, as in Moscow. Switzerland is amazing for it's mountain trains and funiculairs, that is for sure. There are small metros at high altitude ski stations, entirely built in the mountains, with very steep angles. So - no uniform comparison could be made. Each country has it's best in something, then it comes to transport. I do not know, if it helps to maintain the stereotypes with these details, though :-).
The most incredible things is even moscow metro trains and system itself is every aged, but they are running at such small interval-90s is still impossible even we use CBTC moving block and ATO automatic train operation in HK and Beijing, which we can only achieve around 100s~120s interval.
Most of the Metro trains have been replaced with new ones. Aircondition, TV, fair enough with City related things and advertising. USB loading docks. And of course FREE WIFI on the whole system, never mind how deep it is..
@@fhs7838 There was ATO prototype for PSDs in Petersburg, but now it is turned off because drivers were watching in their phones while ATO is operating the train. But yeah, this is great that system like that which is not a high tech metro operating on time.
Moscow metro trains are equipped with a system similar to ATO/ATP. Its called ALS-ARS (Automatic locomotive signalisation with automatic speed reduce). This system allows the train to travel at rated speed and at the same time ensures safety.
Simply impressive! Thanks for making this documentary. Congrats to all the employees making this possible. Hope to visit Moscow someday & ride its metro.
It’s fairly easy actually. Horizontal axis is a time axis, Vertical grid lines are stations along the metro line, so actual graphs (diagonal zig zags) are each individual train’s schedule and actual time of arrival.
Moscow is other city that's in my travel plan, I hope it draw me out as well as what I'm watching it seem an excellent city, one important thing to a city to be beautiful is the traffic solution and the clean what represents. Congratulations Moscow.

There was a thing with Line 5's Komsomolskaya station that they didn't explain. One of the escalators to the ground was taken apart for the maintenance. That's why the staff had to close the exit completely - they usually leave one escalator to the ground at this time. Same with the evening rush hour. One escalator is normally available for the entrance, but at that time, they had to route people through Line 1's station.
No, they close it anyway. During the rush hours all escalators work in one direction despite one is on maintenance or not. Komsomolskaya is really very crowded and they really have to make those restrictions. Trust me, I have used this transport hub for more than a year:) Cheers!

Really interesting!. I always admired the Moscow metro and love seeing vids of it online. it is nice to see the behind the scenes as to the people that make it run efficiently.
Some of the voice over voices are priceless on these shows.
It's much preferred to having subtitles though. For me anyway.
I genuinely despise the woman responsible for that high-pitch voice-over. Can't remember the womans name in the Doc, but oh my god her voice-over made me wanna commit.

(200+ Stations) The scale of that system is just Magnificent.
The documentary is old, because at moment of publication Moscow metro contains 269 stations, not 212
It's not that big if you think that for example the Munich metro has 100 stations for about 1.5 million inhabitants, while Moscow only has 269 for about 12 million (thank you Ivan) residents. However only the amount of stations isn't a measurement of magnificentness of a metro network - for example the Moscow metro has wider platforms and a higher frequency of trains than the Munich one
@@connectingwings7212 You have a point. I also learnt that Paris has about 300 stations so there is a lot more to this.
@@connectingwings7212 11.98 millions in Moscow itself + 10 millions in 100 km radius
I love the old train, it makes me remind my childhood in Budapest, where they use blue painted trains operated in M3
same
Those trains are named "Ev" or "Ev3", and were made specially for Budapest by the same factory, what produced old moscow trains.

@@Snakeclaw7 I should probably do some research for it. After my exams.

Such a feel-good documentary. Thank you!
i had no idea of any of the details, the details about WWII, I am really surprised this is not discussed more.
It will take 5-6 years i think, to change all old trains. They buy 500-600 new cars every year. And there are about 3000 old cars now.
Aha! I knew it! This documentary is 1 year old cus Savelovskaya station has already opened in December 31,2018.
May be they gathered information and filmed for a year.........
And the number of stations is bigger than 212
December 30, 2018 actually.
I have already seen it, but I am not sure if in English or German
After ive played the Metro games Metro 2033, Last light and Exodus I've been fascinated about the metro. I actually didn't think it was as big it is in the games/books but it really is huge.
Well, it's approximately the size of the city (:

20:46 As a viennese tram driver I have to agree. Get on the bloody thing or don't, but do not block the doors, it's causing a lot of delay!
There is delays in Austria ? If you tell me that Switzerland also have delays - I will loose all my trust to stereotypes about Europe's nations.
Hi, I'm planning to go to Wien with my wife in December. What should I do, which routes should I take to get the best experience of Viennese tram system? Thanks.
It doesn't really matter which tram you take, but the most beautiful lines in my opinion are 1 and 2 around the Ring-Street
Drivers having checkups before each run just shows a high set of standards by the Russians.
They are just making sure they are sober because if they didn't check they would all be drunk.
I love my metro. Incredible convenience, cleanliness, safety and speed. Sometimes it is 2 times faster to get by metro than by car.
There is no ATO in Moscow. But so many things were in St. Peterburg. For example platform screen doors were installed in 70s there.
@@megalifts Even without ATO, still reached 90s, that's incredible!

No ads on the trains and the stations? Amazing!!

Но без знания русского делать нечего, английский никто не знает.
Beautiful system
75 cents per trip, that's a very good price

wonder indeed why the shot is blurred. because the inside of the station is indeed that time. that is when the Metro is opening... there could be one thing though, the clock on the tower is not working and might give therefore a wrong impression. Greetings from Moscow.
