You brought back memories to me, of when I gigged for almost a year with an Artist 3203 in the early 90s. This hybrid amp (though it's not hybrid like a Valvestate is [tube pre-amp, solid state power amp], but hybrid like a Music Man [solid state pre-amp, tube power amp [EL34s]), sounded great when cranked, but blah at lower volumes. I had to get rid of mine, because I was destroying the rest of the band onstage ("geez Ellen! you're killing us! TURN IT DOWN!"). Unfortunately, when I turned mine down, it sounded weak, and muddy, with none of the low end, and grind it had at higher volume (even with the gain control cranked). But back then, none of us considered boosting the high gain channel for more oomph - you either went with the dirt the amp could dish out (boosting only for extra volume during solos), or you used a dirt pedal through the clean channel (ugh!). So, I sadly got rid of mine.

These were Marshall's answer to musicans complaining that their tube amps sound different from night to night.
So Marshall kept the core foundation from the JCM800 but lowered it power and made it to where it would sound almost identical night after night even with dirty power running which let's be honest is a majority of mid level clubs and venues.
This was to keep it the same tone night after night.

I’ve had one of these for awhile. Great amps.the 3210 and 3310 lead 100 mosfets are great too. I have a couple 3310’s and one 3210 also. Thrash Metal is easy with these 80’s sleepers. My 3203 is modded to have a triangle of knobs that give it actual Treble, Middle, and Bass separate controls. I picked it up for $500. My 3210 was $500 also and I got one 3310 for $400, then found a pristine condition 3310 for $250 shipped. I use SD-1 in front of all of them and EQ in the loop too so I can fine tune the tones. 3210 and 3310 also have fx loops. All of them the same 80’s SS preamps.

It is my understanding that this amp was built starting in 1990 - at least that is what I found about mine. I’ve owned one since the early 90’s, buying it 2nd hand. I’ve tried to sell it for 20 years and got nowhere, so it got shelved - trying to use it again and don’t have any guitars with the kind of pickups being showcased here, so I am thinking that makes a huge difference.
Took it out live once in the late 90’s and it sounded great for classic rock, but now I am trying to use it for a punk group and it just doesn’t quite get to what I am hearing here…

It was my first amp head and I had a lot of fun with it until I upgraded to a JCM2000 DSL100 several years later. The Mosfets are still pretty affordable on the used market but I'm not sure if they sound the same as the Artist 3203 even they look very similar. Incidentally, the Mosfet also has an effects loop. Maybe you could do a comparison video if you get ahold of a Mosfet. Anyway, thanks for the demo.

For a surprise, crank the "normal" (clean) channel all the way...dime everything, including the master volume. Be careful though, 35 tube watts is very loud. I use a Weber Mass attenuator.
Not surprisingly, dimed out the "Boost" channel gets real messy. It sounds best the way you've got it dialed in here.

Wow I’m surprised. Sounded rad. I didn’t even know about this amp. You know how to tweak em bro.
Wondering if you’d ever be interested in playing and dialing in viewers amps? Like ones you’ve never played or custom/modded amps. I have a modded point to point 800 with switchable clipping diodes, resonance pot, and hot mod. It would just be cool to see what sounds you could come up with and what you thought about it. Cheers bro

I just got an offer for an artist for 300 bucks. Of course I bought it. Do I have to do a bias setup for changing the tubes? Or is it plug an play because of a fixed bias?

Anyone have the 3203 owners manual? I have searched the web extensively and still can't find it. No luck with Marshall either.

Do a demo of the marshall haze 15, i own it. Its a mini jcm800 with built in effects. It rips.

Can you change the 12AX7 Tube for a 5Y3 rectifier tube since it is a solid state hybrid?

Had one of these and it didn’t really do it for me. Was very middy and lacking in low end. Needed an eq in the loop.

Wondering if this is actually my old 3203 that I traded in towards something at WoM back in the mid 2000s (I think I was trading up for a JCM 900 Mk III). There could only be so many of these kicking around in Erie. Anyhow, I loved the 3203, but I needed something that got a bit louder at the time. It’d probably be a great amp to have around now, though, especially for home recording.

Hey Joe! Could be, but unfortunately I sold it a while ago so I wouldn't be able to send you any pictures to confirm. it was a great amp, for sure though. parametric EQ in the loop and it definitely would have been an awesome recording amp, for sure

Theres one for sale locally, for $400. Tempting! I already have a JCM600 and a Master Lead Combo, so another Marshall isnt on the list unless its an upgrade. JCM 900 or 800. Buuut still… tempting!

Not really digging this one. It sounded a little too muffled in the high-end with every combination that you threw at it. The best tone was with the first guitar and the MXR boost. The way the amp is voiced, I bet it would be killer for doom metal.
