The Ocean Hunter Full Walkthrough (Supermodel r680 demonstration)

- This was one of my favorite games to play at the arcade as a child and it finally works nearly flawlessly in emulator! I used the Supermodel Model 3 emulator's revision 680 to record this and it worked like a charm. Areas beyond the 4:3 resolution can look slightly off, but this is a natural result of most games that aren't native 16:9 being forced into it. The only really big graphical issue, which is unfortunately pretty big is the MEDUSA MINIBOSS IS RUINED BY A SCREEN COVERING EFFECT. Aside from that and a few minor issues, the game looks as I remember it.
This game plays a bit funny with a mouse since it was originally designed for two turret-esque light guns in its arcade cabinet, but when you get used to it, it's not terrible. It also lets you shoot much faster than the arcade version and I'm not sure if this is because of the emulator making a mistake or the original hardware's limitations.
Still pretty fun though and works surprisingly well. Wasn't sure I would ever see this working properly on PC. Huge props to the team behind the emu. Thread with download is here: www.emuline.org...

As far as playing it, after putting a dump of the ROMs in a zip and putting it in the same folder as the emu, you can open a command prompt there and type, say "supermodel.exe oceanhun.zip". You'll have to touch the config file to get 1080p, but that's just changing lines that mention the resolution in Supermodel.ini.
As for the ROM set itself... I can't legally tell you, but google probably will. There's a site that's a paradise of sorts for emu lation.

Hi. What Power PC Frequency setting you used for this game? Did you had to calibrate the controllers in the Test Menu before? Do you still have the NVRAM file to share?

Here's my folder sans my game dumps. I'm not sure when the NVRAM is from. I also did not set the Power PC Frequency. I did not calibrate the controllers ingame, the only input settings I messed with were within the config file.
Every once in a while when I hear the *Kraken* in this game I think of the new *NHL team* from *Seattle, Washington*
If Sega was smart; they'd gather all its excellent rail shooters (HoTD, Virtua Cop, Ocean Hunter, etc), remaster them, and release them on Steam for a reasonable price as Microsoft did with Halo. However, Sega is stupid as it's too busy milking Yakuza, crapping out phoned-in Sonic games that only furries like, (and that's not for the gameplay believe you me) and whoring out the Genesis whose library fewer and fewer people give 2 fucks for.

Ornstein Sulyvahn Are you using the latest version? That issue plagued older revisions iirc. The only settings I changed from default upped the resolution to 1080p, essentially.
I'm using the one on the supermodel website but that site hasn't been upped since 2013, is there some other site to get this "r680" version you are using? Sorry if I sound kinda doofus it's been a while since I been in the emulation game haha!

SWEET IT WORKED! All I did was extract it, put Ocean Hunter in the Roms folder and run the UI and not alter anything!

I only ever saw this cabinet as a kid when I was broke and thus couldn't play it, in a Walmart arcade..... Or was it a pricechopper? Either way, they had already gotten rid of it by the time I could afford to play and beat it...... Same thing with CarnEvil in the movie theatre that I saw it in. If I ever run into either game ever again, I got like $30 minimum going to beat it.

Why did they just call three separate Moray eels a hydra , a shark a leviathan and Scylla (she's described to be in the straid of Messina to have a woman's body with dogs growing out of her, and multiple snake heads , but more popular is her depiction as a full monster like a hydra with multiple snake heads. ) Why is Skylla a cephalopod here. Doesn't make sense. Also leviathan myth started because of whales and fossils. So it should be at least s mammal.
Outside of the gigantism and aggression/offensive capabilities, every creature in the game aside from the final boss is closely based on real marine life, extinct or not.
Within the game world, the name references could be interpreted as either being based on the legends or perhaps the legends themselves being exaggerated from the admittedly monstrous, in their own way, versions encountered ingame.
Leviathan is a bit strange, but whales and sharks are confused somewhat with those not in the know so perhaps it's playing on that.
Also worth keeping in mind this was made by Japanese devs well before the net really took off. If there were few resources in English then, one can only imagine even fewer existed in Japanese.
And at the end of the day, it's just kind of a silly light gun game. It's neat and a nice change up from the usual games of the time shooting up humanoid enemies, but it's certainly not high literature.

I think that's the idea; that multiple unrelated mythos reference this one creature due to its immense influence. Just my 2 cents though.
