Hey, this is Goldhand Drawings, Today's video is about
    Comparing 7 iconic pencils
I have tested and compared 7 pencils by gradient shading, lines and writings.
    7 pencils I've selected are
    Tombow Mono 100 HB
    Mitsu-Bishi Hi-Uni HB
    Palomino Blackwing 602
    Prisma Turquoise HB
    Faber-Castell 9000 HB
    Staedtler Mars Lumograph HB
    Caran d'Ache Swisswood
They all have their own characteristics so I think it would be nice to tell you guys their performance so you have will have a better idea what pencil to buy.
Have fun watching and always thanks,
    Jun

For drawing Faber Castell is No1, no other comes close, not even Staedtler. Mitsubishi Hi Uni are great for nice looking handwriting but they need sharpening much more often than Faber Castell.
For drawing, I use a set of Faber Castell TK9071 2mm/3.15mm leads (2H,HB,2B,6B), loaded in TK4600/TK9400 lead holders, for the darkest black, I use a Pitt Matt graphite 12B.
For quick sketches, my favorite are Faber Castell Aquarelle graphite pencils, they are awesome.
For charcoal drawing, General's charcoal pencils set and for classic Red Chalk/Sepia etc I use Koh-I-Noor either wooden pencils or their 5.6mm leads loaded in 5347/5344 lead holders.
Those are the best pencils for drawing/sketching in my humble opinion.

Thanks for the pencil review. I wanted to ask where you picked up that pencil box? I have been looking for a pencil box that is just the size of pencils like the one you showed.

the video I was looking for..I often use the 9000 (better quality/price)....for now the best pencils I've tried have been Tombow Mono 100 and Caran d'Ache Grafwood..They seem very similar to me, I'm waiting to try the hi university...very good video

But the Blackwing graphite core is made in Japan by Kitaboshi. So then is the pencil truly American?

thats a very good question ( i didnt know the lead is from kitaboshi)

I did not realize CalCedar confirmed this partnership. Glad to read your comment, as I logged on to finally order some Kitaboshi pencils. As I do not like the Palomino Blackwing - at all - I’ll redirect to another manufacturer.
      Thank you!

@@Luzanne.My only problem with CalCedar Blackwing is that they've ruined the reputation of the 602 AND the Blackwing name by pairing the 602 designation with an inferior version of the pencil. The "REAL" 602 is probably best represented by their Pearl/Balanced core, but even then it's not the original. Yet they insist on calling a B grade pencil the 602, when the original 602 was closer to the 3B of the Pearl, or the 4B of the Matte, but the 4B Matte has an awful smudging problem, so the Pearl is actually the closest to the original 602.

Although I lack your knowledge of the Palomino line of “blackwings”, I know that you are spot on about the impostor “602” being an inferior product. I could not agree more!
The other day I was at an art shop looking for a new long point pencil sharpener. While perusing, I noticed that Blackwing sold a dual pencil sharpener for about $15. It looked exactly like my $5 KUM with a sleek black exterior. Lo and behold, it was the $5 KUM that had been repackaged by Blackwing and sold for 3x more. Very on brand.

@@Luzanne. I just use Tombow Mono 2B or Staedtler Lumograph 2B/4B. High quality graphite and less expensive. Never used Blackwings.

Do you have a genuine Blackwing 602 by Eberhard Faber (EF)? I’d love to know where you would place it with this esteemed company. I’ve also been experimenting with Microtomic 603s and Van Dyke 601s to see which comes closest to the Blackwing 602. For writing, not sketching, I prefer the Microtomic B.
As I have a journal full of comparison testing, it was fun watching someone else do it with a couple pencils that are new to me. It’s not easy to find the words to describe how a pencil feels, but you did a terrific job!

hi there🙂 sorry i dont think i can get Eberhard Faber ( old ver of faber castell??) i am
happy my video was fun to watch, appreciated 😊😊
ps : yes it was not easy to explain how i felt 😅

If ever I get a new box, I promise to send you a genuine Blackwing if you do a comparison video! You will understand the hype around the genuine Blackwing 602. I use it and Microtomic 603 B for writing. It’s wild how long I can write without sharpening.
A cursory review of Palomino Blackwing’s advertisements make one think Steinbeck, Shamus Culhane, et al., were advocates of their pencil. In fact, they were advocates of the genuine Eberhard Faber Blackwing 602.
No hate intended. I’m grateful CalCedar/Palomino have kept Faber’s Blackwing 602 aesthetic form alive, but the function is incomparable. Palomino’s buttery core, nonstop sharpening, poor weigh distribution are not at play in the genuine Blackwing 602.

I like more whe the pencil is more dark and soft I'm a heavy hand, the bad side is the stamping effect , mechanical pencil I use 2b lead, I have to remenber to buy some b lead to try, I never enjoy the hb lead, my favorites leads that I bought here in brasil is pilot and pentel, I don't like faber castell lead , cis and tris also not a great lead.

@@penpencilpaint I love the selection of items that you review, I own many of them myself, so if you could research them a bit more and give the video some direction / narrative I think your channel will blow up! Production is awesome and the hardest thing to get right for most!
