I love how candid, vulnerable, honest, and brave you were in these posts. I am a 50+ year-old woman, who never rushed in college, and always felt like maybe I missed something. But watching this, I truly feel like I probably dodged a bullet and your experience has helped me advise my college-bound daughter in what is truly important for her success and self-esteem in this new chapter of her life. She is precious to me, and is truly a delightful young woman who happens to be on the autism spectrum. This process sounds so unbelievably high stress and alienating. Thank you for taking the time to lay it out in such detail. I never knew it was like this. I rushed a gender-inclusive fraternity at Dartmouth after my Junior year (Phi Tau), and listening to your experience, I'm just struck by how ritualized and not-fun the sorority rush process sounds vs. rushing the gender-inclusive houses. I hope you find what you are looking for with your second round or sorority rush, but if you don't, I hope you will look at Phi Tau (we're just off frat row, north of the Kemeny, the barn-like building with the blue door). I also came to Dartmouth to study science/engineering and was initially really alienated by the whole Greek system. But at Phi Tau, I found everything I was looking for (friends who shared my interests, a social life, community, a support structure) and the rush process was entirely relaxed, low stress and fun. You can visit the house as much or as little as you like whenever you like, and if you feel ready, sign the house book to let us know you're interested. Bids are debated and granted on a rolling basis. Greek life isn't supposed to suck or stress you out, and you deserve to find a house that acknowledges that 😊 phi-tau.org/public/recruitment.php

I remember being a junior in HS, back in 2002 (don’t judge) and looking into undergrad programs in the US as an international student. I automatically rejected any and each college where Greek life was a) featured as one of the highlights on the website or b) came up frequently in my random searches. I really believe that identity shaping as a young adult needs to happen in various different spaces and with different groups of people in order for you to really find out who you are and what you aspire to become. I am sorry for what happened to you, but I believe that the PTSD will go away and the whole experience will make you stronger.
So I am a first year at the University of Virginia and my parents made me stay while while the majority of my class went on campus. I have been feeling suffocating foo and I have O sense of community. It it really sucks I do not know how I am going to last. Since I MA EXTROVERT who gets my energy from people.
As a college graduate, I met so many college friends at the clubs on campus. Some clubs charge a small annual fee or its free and I found more genuine friendships that way. I found people who were truly interested in what I was interested in. For example, an engineering club or habitat for humanity club. Find something that you are passionate about or you just want to explore in. Join a business club, investment club or intramural sport. I think the pressure of having to "Fit in" decreases. Use this time to explore your options don't pigeon hole yourself only to Greek life.
As someone in a stereotypical white boy fraternity, I can say that people in Greek life have the ability to build you up so much but they can also tear you down to shreds. I’ve been through it all and I can understand
I got dropped by all the good houses as sophomore transfer due to grades. I preffed two houses: a bottom tier with homely weird girls and a house with girls I liked but it had half the members of other houses. I only put down the decent girl house, got a bid and left within a week. My BFFs were in sororities in their schools and loved it so I told a girl I wanted to move into the house right away. They were just chapter dorms, not beautiful mansions and they usually had rooms open. The girl dropped to her knees and screamed, “thank god!!!” so I promptly figured out their numbers sucked and they were in danger of losing their “dorm house.” I wasn’t about to pay money to be in a sorority that no one wanted to be in. I don’t think it was a bad house; it just vaguely existed, barely being acknowledged by anyone in Greek life. I also figured the house wouldn’t even last because it was most likely going broke due to lack of members paying dues. I remember bid day and was bummed watching the pretty girls who got into the house I loved walk past, in their cute little baby t’s walking past to go do something fun with a frat while I was in a giant oversized shirt as I was whisked away to eat delicious Mexican food in a park. Which would’ve been ok I guess, if it wasn’t dark by the time we got there and the park had no lights so we were trying to eat in pitch black nighttime. The charter got yanked by my senior year sill so I’m glad I never wasted my time and money on it
I went to a tiny college with 5 sororities. On my Pref card, I ranked a risky but possible house as #1, and a "safe" house as #2. It turned out that it was a limited recruitment year and one of the other houses couldn't actually take any members, but had to go through the whole process as if they could. So, everyone who picked them first got their second choices, and the other houses only took girls who ranked them first. In other words, the house I wanted first filled up, and the "safe" house didn't match me back because I only ranked them second. It made a lot of girls angry and one house almost lost all their members and their charter for that year!

There are other councils besides Panhellenic and there are also academic and service Greek organizations that could be a better fit as well.
