- Our unbeaten start to the season came to an end at St James’ Park as Anthony Gordon’s strike gave Newcastle United victory.
A scrappy game was decided by a scrappier goal, as the former man poked home from close range after a scramble on the goalline on 63 minutes that was scrutinised by VAR for numerous issues, but the Geordies survived to ultimately take the three points.
It was a frustrating evening for Mikel Arteta’s side who failed to really test Nick Pope in the Magpies goal throughout, with the best chance falling Gabriel Martinelli’s way just before half-time but that was a routine stop for the home goalkeeper.

Arsenal did not play good enough to win the game but equally did not deserve to lose the game by such a dubious goal. The lack of cutting edge in our play serves as a brutal reminder how we actually lack depth in quality in our front 3 and playmaker position .Saka and Martinelli were clearly having a stinker but Arteta had no confidence to replace them off the bench. Same with Odegaard's position no player in the team can replicate the same level of quality as him when injured. Nketiah is a fast track bully we need an elite striker like Toney if we are to truly challenge for silverware this season.

As a neutral I don't think the ball went out, but I did think it was a foul on Gabriel, and it also looked offside. (That said I don't know if I know what the offside rule even is anymore).

@@sebasbanderaThe above two cases are different because in both the cases the ball clearly went inside the goal and in one case it was wrongfully not given and in another it was wrongfully given. Wolves could have missed the penalty even if awarded, so these two cases are more clear cut as to the bad use of VAR affecting the outcome of a match.

Artetta made excuses for the fact his team did not put two balls on target the whole game. I'm an Arsenal fan and frustrated with the talk of bad VAR. VAR is great and catches a lot of BS the game used to have on the regular and now, occasionally, you get some questionable call or lack of calls. It's still an improvement. Trossard should have been started because he scores goals.I think Arteta coached the game wrong not making changes until too late and not starting with the strongest team to score. Thought Tommy A played great. Kia Havartz played really well and fought hard. Trossard in the beginning would have made the difference.
My love for this team can get no higher, but I love Arsenal & my manager ❤ .. also havertz really gave everything this game I would like him to start cf until jesus returns

Every team is gonna get wrong decisions against them... Technically VAR is percise when looking at a ball and line but a push and a shove is people watching Nat Lofthouse 1950s goals on TH-cam and thinking that's a clear goal, it's a contact sport at the end of the day.... In as much as I love and respect Mikel arteta, I think he's part of our problem this season. He's forcing in Kai Havertz and David raya in the team. I understand it was a shameful VAR decision, but Arteta should learn from his tactical mistakes as well, we had over 30 mins after the VAR to atleast get a result from this game but we didn't, our better substitutions came in the 80th min, Mr. Arteta has failed to justify why Raya is still ahead of Aaron despite the recurring errors costing us points, I just cant tell how his gonna deal with Harvetz coz honestly this guy more of a liability than an asset given his lucrative contract.. Selling Xhaka to buy Harvertz £65 at over £300k weekly wages instead of getting a good competition (striker) for G.Jesus is a squad strenthening no-brainer strategy 😢

Regardless of all that VAR concerns, we deserved to lose this game. We didn't look like scoring ever. Only few good things were our defense, Kai Havertz being better than most attackers. We were never able to put Martinelli or Saka through/behind the Newcastle's defense, not even once. I understand Newcastle has one of the solid defense, But we are supposed to be the best or 2nd best attacking team in the league.

Newcastle's goal was a goal caused by a foul... Actually, I'm a Tottenham fan, but I doubt the level of EPL referees and Var referees who recognized this as a goal.
If you're a real Tottenham fan I'm sure you didn't forget when Romero decapitated cucurella and you scored against Chelsea and VAR didn't disallowed the goal also didn't give a Red card to your player.

I wish us arsenals fans would stop being negative all the time. Going to Newcastle along with Liverpool are probably the hardest fixtures because of the atmosphere. We controlled the game but yes I admit attacking wise we just are not there yet.
But give the team credit , they worked hard and fought for every ball. We were putting 100% effort in.
