'When the Shropshire Union Canal was constructed 200 years ago the shelf was cutting-edge technology used to reduce wash and protect the embankment. Working boats at the time stopped at wharfs overnight so the shelf itself was not a problem' But I find them a pain

Nice solo trip - perhaps practise locks solo when Benny's on board to help if you get into trouble ? When going up, Country House Gent, puts the nose against the cill and weirdly, the undercurrents keep it there rather than pushing it back (IIRC - double check) Wisteria seeds !? Maybe ,one day the Stratton Aqueduct will get a lick of paint .Some boaters moor up under those large motorway bridges to paint their boats but a dock would be nice .looks like the birthday bash went well and thanks for inspiring me to order some brew stuff online 😊
@21:45 Oh no! Pick them! These two are Parasol mushrooms, and they are delicious! And the ones @21:26 look like Wood Ear. They are very good and healthy as well. But identifying mushrooms over a video... is tricky. But it makes me thing. You forage for wood, and that's where the mushrooms are :) So, free food! :) I'd only probably avoid picking them on the tow path. Dogs are being walked there, they like to pee on things... and small kids... and drunk people... Sry for commenting on older videos. Just found your channel recently (since Cruising the Cut is not on the boat anymore, Foxes afloat are farmers now...), so i'm slowly making my way through the lot.
Another lovely episode! Benny’s music is just the perfect accompaniment to your videos. So much admiration for you stepping out of your comfort zone and going it alone! I still haven’t managed to do that. And Petes also going to give me a lesson on changing the gas bottle, as I know that’s definitely going to need doing one day when he’s gone. The noise sounds like a female fox barking, calling out to males. Its quite regular in the countryside but usually earlier in the year.

The shelf is there to stop bank erosion/ footings for concrete shuttering for repaired sides. Was a sort of 2 in one jobby
