I know this isn't going to be a crazy popular video but I really hope it helps the small number of competitors out there who wanted to learn more about protecting your ankles/feet during a fight.
@@herculesmt3558 then you need to check out the Knees over toes guy! He has videos and info about the ankles and a bunch of other stuff that's helped me tremendously 💪
I actually broke my ankle and severely sprained it in a BJJ comp in April; and have been taping my ankle when training! I’ve been taping it differently, and I’m definitely trying this way next time
So I just started watching Karate Combat, and might I say that I could picture you doing incredibly well over there man. You also have an extensive karate back-round so it would come naturally to you. ✌️
He’s levels above those guys. Most of them never had full contact fights and only point fighting before entering Karate Combat, since most are Shotokan. Still would be awesome though
Thank You... I've been doing muay thai for a few months now and I haven't been wrapping my ankles/feet. I'm going to start doing so each and every time I plan on kicking. Thank you, Champ... 🙏
i'd like a video on protecting hands because, even with 12 oz glove and bandage, i managed to mess by thumbs while hitting my opponents. It's very annoying to be scared to hit your opponent because you don't want to hurt/suffer your hands! thanks for all your vids :)
Nothing wrong with your tape job nor gloves. I would suggest 16oz for sparring though, that first. You need to work on your punch technique if you are hitting with the thumb. A hook should be a hook, elbow 90 degrees more or less is fine too depending on distance, land with your middlefinger to pinky knuckles. it is not a swing with a stretched arm and hit with thumb. Also if you are hitting the thumb with an overhead punch, make sure you position your thumb down and hit with the index and middlefinger knuckles. Yes your elbow will turn up, but its an overhead, you punch slightly downwards. If you are hitting the thumb with straight punches... I'm not sure if that is possible, ask jesus for help.
Yea you should never hurt your “thumbs” when hitting ANYTHING. so you needa work on form and technique not wraps. And 12oz gloves are not for sparring unless your doing hard rounds in camp w mma gloves. You need 16 or AT LEAST 14oz gloves.
These are the types of videos that fighters need, but they don't know it. Thank you for the uploads as always! edit: Biting the tape doesn't make you a savage, being an internationally decorated kickboxing champion makes you one.
Oh man! How did I miss this video? I had a K-1 rules fight two Saturdays ago… I won but ended up hurting my right ankle throwing all those leg kicks. Then I stupidly went back to training within a few days without taping it and hurt it further. I’m still hurting.
Thank you for sharing this incredibly helpful video! I personally wouldn’t want to use regular compression Muay Thai ankleguards during fights because I feel that it diminishes the satisfying slap I get when kicking my opponents' inside leg with my bare foot. It adds an extra level of impact and intensity to my strikes. It's interesting to note that even boxing legend Mike Tyson never wore socks during his fights, and that might have influenced my preference as well
As a former TKD WTF fighter who had to leave it due to an ankle injury (back when I practiced it was way more decent and aggresive than what it is now) because adding protection to your feet was forbidden (back on those days you where only allowed to have thin shinguards) and now I tend to struggle with my mobility and kicks in my kickboxing classes, I don't know how organizations have not made taping or bandaging your ankles the same way you do your hands actually mandatory, hell my ankle sometimes hurts even from walking too much and I find myself having to bandage or tape it just to go for a hike. To all the fighters out there, take good care of your ankles and follow this tips whenever you are allowed to for a competition or if you can, always do it even for your regular training.
Fully agree. Wrapping ankles should be normal, the same way wrapping hands is. I always atleast use ankle braces on both feet. The kind that you see normally in MT and kickboxing. Only issue for using this in MMA and Grappling is that it makes the ankle much easier to grip for single legs and ankle picks. Ankle locks are harder to escape too.
I have a fight in 5 days and this video couldn't have been more helpful or come at a better time. LOVE this channel. It's by far the most "real" and I rave about it to all the martial artists that will listen down here in New Zealand! Keep 'em coming mate!!
My ankle right now is very tender along the ligaments which was shown and i was looking for a wrap i could do when im training because my ankles take a beating because i do kickboxing and football (soccer) great vid ✌
Sometimes in Muay Thai and regularly in Lethwei they completely wrap the foot as if wrapping the hands. This should be common practice IMO, i know too many people who get foot and ankle injuries
Hey Gabriel, as someone who has weak ankles due to gout/arthritis, pivoting can often really aggravate my ankles. I'm going to try this out! I really appreciate it.
Well firstly baki is a no equipment fighter so having support on wrists and ankles is more than enough for him when he puts them on, that's how it'd make sense lore wise, we all know it's for looks cause it looks good
@@Meta_Meech well actually 🤓mf fell from a building into a car and was just fine, i don't think he's in that much danget + i already said that besides the lore it's for the looks cuz it looks cool

I snapped my ankle in 6th grade, started training in 2013! Now im 23 but no mobility in my ankle, this is such a useful video to me, thank you.

U kidding? Ive search for guides on this exact topic week after week lol
A lot of the time I do a lot of light Sparring in training
Following on for the last comment . But I have trouble doing big technique like a tornado kick can any one help or got any advice?

Get bigger gloves. How are you wrapping your hands? Also you shouldn’t be hitting that hard if it’s in sparring

I really need to know how do you TAPE your arches if your flat footed and want to do TKD or kick boxing, can you please cover this !
Thanks, I've been wondering how to properly tape.
(That one thumbs down guy just sprained his ankle. 😳)

Perfect!
What kind of tape is that?
Could be wrong but it looks like medical tape. I bet there is a style specifically made for combat sports too
