    Now I have a crazy question for you from the 2017 F150 to the 2018 F150 what has been changed to get that 13000 tow rating?

  • @caedom21
    @caedom21 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    This news is amazing. I drive a F150 and bought a 5.0. I just want to say that this is the golden age of trucks. GM, Dodge and Toyota are gonna try to one up Ford next year and am sure all will put out some fantastic products. Competition is a great thing. It's even better that we have TFL will be covering every single minute of it. All we need now is a Ford Diesel engine and a 5.0 Ecoboost V8. I almost forgot about a Jeep truck! Life is good.

      "this is the golden age of trucks" -- This is also a golden era of truck pricing for the Big Three.

    • @KB-bh9hp
      @KB-bh9hp 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      mountainhobo You can still buy a relatively cheap work truck for like 28k for a f250 so it's not that bad, better now because consumers have more options.

    • @caedom21
      @caedom21 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      More like the "platinum" era of truck pricing? It's biggly. I know trucks, that I can tell you. We're going to make American Trucks Great and Pricey again. This I know. It's real easy. We're going to build great trucks and have the Mexicans pay for it. You'd better believe it.

      stephen yoo Yea right mate and I seriously they'll outlast my 96 Ford F150 with a 5.0L (302) Windsor V8. Trucks today are not only overpriced but they look hideous and ugly, so complicated to work on, made out of plastic, and lack soul and character as well.

    I have had both the 5.0 and the 3.5 ecoboost. The Ecoboost performance is amazing. The 5.0 was good and they both got close to the same gas mileage. The prices are HIGH on both but I do keep mine for 5+ years and they seem to hold up very well. They get used on and off road and handle everything I can dish out. The Ecoboost has a great tow rating and has an edge in gas mileage. The 2018 is intriguing as they have upped the tow anti.

    Test the 2.7 L MPG. I'm getting around 16 on combined and the sticker says I should be getting closer to 20. I will admit I do like my sport mode. Just wondering what you guys have found out on your 2.7 MPG runs

  • @53bigmikejones

    OK, I purchased a 2018 Ford F-150 crew cab with the 2.7 Eco, 10 speed transmission and 3.55 rear end. According to the manual I can tow 11,300 . . . . BUT, in talking to Ford, they say 9000. I purchased a Sunset Trailer Grand Reserve, Dry weight 7500. Loaded it up, weighed it, 8154. I just took it on its maiden voyage of 516 miles which included several 6 and 7 percent grades and pulled and handled great. MPG was 11.5 and even in the windy conditions in SoCal, (had Santa Ana winds on Friday) no sway or problems. Only thing I did to the truck was Firestone Airbags to help stabilize handling. Overall, well pleased with my Ford. Towing, running 11-12 MPG, around town, 17-19 MPG and highway without a trailer, 20-22 MPG.

    If you are going to need to tow 13,200 pounds, you should just get a 3/4 ton. Especially when the half ton costs about the same as the 3/4 ton truck.

    I hope you get to drive the 5.0! I currently have a '16 2.7 6 speed Ecoboost and almost immediately stopped driving it to keep miles down becaus I knew I would be trading it in shortly after the '18 5.0 10 speed would be released. I tow a 5500 lb travel trailer and feel that 2.7 has to "flex" its muscles the whole time causing my poor mpg's. My thoughts are the 5.0 10 speed won't need to work as hard giving me better fuel economy whether I'm towing or not. What do you think? I feel bad for my 2.7 because she just sits in the garage and still has that new car smell. I can't wait to see you all tow realistic weight with ALL the trucks. I want naturally aspirated again because I don't want to deal with any turbo issues down the road. Thanks and can't wait until tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @hwyfools

    1/2 ton Fords are very capable these days with payload and towing capacities. The trans cooler included with the Tow Options is key. Loaded down you can definitely tell your in a 1/2 ton but they will get it done. Loading everyday a set of airbags helps the stance. 2.7 is impressive loaded and has plenty of TQ. IMO 2.7 tow package 3.55 rear end with Fords 36 gallon optional gas tank is the ticket. Unloaded the 2.7 sips fuel.

    If the truck is equipped to handed a max towing of 13,200 lbs, SAE Compliant, that just means pulling your 7,000 lbs boat is going to be that much better! I don't think too many folks out there would be thrilled to be driving a half-ton towing 13,000 lbs, but, if it can safely handle it, you know towing the toys is going to a breeze.

If one wants to complain about the payments then they probably shouldn't have bought it in the first place. But of course its the "industrial complex's" fault that I just had to buy a new vehicle I couldn't afford. As one of the best selling vehicles in the world, it seems plenty of folks think they can afford F150s.

      Supa Doopa Demand would drop, incentives would increase, and markets for cheaper vehicles would flourish. You're ignoring the fact that under $5 or $6 a gallon gas, the economy would be in shambles and new car sales for poor fuel economy vehicles would drastically drop. You can raise prices in this time if you provide a necessity like food, fuel, water, etc but as a car manufacturer, people will run to other cheaper more fuel efficient vehicles, buy on the used market, or maintain their own vehicles for as long as possible.

Best in class 1/2 ton, best in class diesel engine (Ram), best in class turbo gas engine or V6 (Ford). They do this for everything so it shouldn't be your deciding factor to buy one over the other it's all marketing

  • @Lawrosa1
    @Lawrosa1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah and the tow hitch on the 2018.s are not rated more then 12,200 lbs..( from my research) So tell me how your going to get 13000 plus? I assume when someone complains they will start throwing new stickers on the hitches..
    But theres more...
    Also the GCWR on a truck I was looking at was 18400. That means if I towed 13000 the truck can only weight 5400 lbs... Ha ha ha.. The 13000 is calculated with a sae j2807..
    New calculations for trailer weight ratings: In addition to the performance standards, SAE J2807 also uses a specific set of assumptions to calculate maximum trailer weight ratings:
    For light-duty full-size pickups (GVWR < 8,500 lbs.), SAE J2807 assumes that the tow vehicle includes any options with higher than 33 percent penetration;
    It assumes there is both a driver and passenger in the vehicle, each weighing 150 pounds;
    It assumes that tow vehicles also include up to 70 pounds of aftermarket hitch equipment (where applicable); and
    For conventional trailer towing, SAE J2807 assumes that 10 percent of the trailer weight is on the tongue.
    Wow!!!! Lets put this togther here..
    With an 18400 GCWR - 13000 max trailer lbs your truck cant weigh more then 5400 lbs...
    WHAT!!!
    Take out the two drivers 300 lbs, 70 lbs cargo, and 10% TW 1300lbs.
    So your truck empty needs to weigh 3,730 lbs...
    No way something is flawed... I bet no one has an answer!!! And I think my math is somewhat correct..

    Wouldn't matter that y'all make a 20-30 minute live video for each press release or top 10, but since y'all moved to a lower quality more live unedited videos it gets hard to watch your videos. If there was a normal video on the other channels it would be fine but this is the only way to get this information from y'all so I'm looking at others instead of watching these long rambling videos

      CAMARO_KYLE in what world does a half ton chevy or dodge tow 12k? Last time someone did a real world test of 9k on a ram it shit it's pants and had nowhere near the power needed to tow it. And the chevy was just as bad. But the ford loved it

      Franz it is about the same until the turbo is under a load. One of my friends had both 3.5 and the 5.0 he had the 5.0 with the older body style before the aluminium style with 4x4 king ranch bigger tires and wheels traded it in for the new body style king ranch 4x4 3.5. He said the 3.5 is MUCH faster before adding the exact same tires, but the fuel economy changed a great deal when he added the tires compared to when he did it to the v8. He lost ALOT more mpg on the turbo 6 than he did with 5.0. With that being said he says the 3.5 still feels like it is still a little bit faster than his old 5.0 BUT he would buy the 5.0 because he did get a bit more mpg with those tires than the 3.5 and the 5.0 is VERY MUCH CHEAPER to fix the the turbo charged v6.

    • @hambone8826
      @hambone8826 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      danny neal, how strong the 5.0L feels depends on the gearing. Also, gearing impacts mileage, but if you have a lot of power demands, then MPG won't be as different as you'd think. Ford configured most F150 5.0s with very tall gears and small final drives, making them less suited for towing and hauling. Ford has really neglected the 5.0L, but I'm hoping the updates will make it a better option for people that expect towing and hauling power.

    • @larry8065
      @larry8065 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Can only imagine 3.73? How about 3.93, 4.10 or 4.30? If you're going to tow, you should have the right gear for the right job. That's how it should be done, not with complicated forced induction. And with the right gearing keeping you in the power band, your MPG won't bit hit so hard because the engine won't be laboring to keep up. Beyond brakes, gearing is more important with towing than anything.

    13000 pounds ? Funny because a rental company doesn't care if you're ecoboost can tow that they will consider it a 1500 series. And won't let you leave with a trailer of 8500 pounds. And people want to pull that much just buy a diesel.

      What makes these turbos any different than those on a diesel that everyone praises for reliability. The answer is nothing, other then they typically see less heat than a diesel which will only help, and less soot to plug them up. As long as the engine is built for boost and not just a n/a gas, its every bit as good as its v8 and diesel engines of the same power range, except the 3.5l ecoboost makes ALOT better and broader torque curve than any v8 i have driven. They feel just like a diesel or electric motor, they dont need to be screaming to pull a load.

      Still better than having a big v8 thats always "boost" with the bad fuel mileage when your not towing. And my experience with them is towing over 6500lbs they still put out the same or 1-2 mpg better than a v8 of the same torque, except when you unhook the trailer i personally get 17.5 mpg only driving in town and it averages 21 on long freeway trips. Its been as high as 24 but not very often.
