Lisa - my 2.5 year old daughter LOVES your cooking videos. She will randomly come up to me and ask “Can we watch the mama cook?”
That is so sweet.
So precious
How sweet !! 💕
Super cute daughter ! 🤩
My daughter asks for "cooking shows" while I do her hair. 🥰
I learned recently that your onions and potatoes should be separate because the onions will make the potato sprout faster!
Every night after the kids go to bed, I tidy up, prep food for the next day and put my kitchen to bed - I always find a video of yours (old or new!) to keep me company while I work, taking care of my home and family, as you care for yours. Thank you for your sweet example and joy!💛
Thanks for sharing!!
My beloved mother-in-law (1928-2017) was an ingredient cook, for sure. One family joke is that my father-in-law (who didn’t cook) would open the refrigerator to look for a snack and exclaim, “This fridge is full, but there’s nothing for me to eat!” He would then chuckle and make himself some toast to tide him over.
Farmhouse living requires so much organization
Youve become a staple in my home 😅...well, your videos, to be more exact! I absolutely LOOOOVE your channel!!
I just came across your channel and I’m obsessed!! I really enjoy seeing you and your family. Especially bringing back the simplicity in life that is rarely seen these days! God bless you and your family and I look forward to watching all of your videos 😊
Thank you so much!!
Have you tried making a sauerkraut chocolate cake? We made that a lot while growing up. It's absolutely delicious, and the sauerkraut ends up taking on the texture of coconut. No one can tell there is sauerkraut in it.
We also made a chocolate mayonnaise cake, that is delicious and super moist. And finally, we made tomato soup cake, with raisins and cloves. We put chocolate frosting on it! One time my sister accidently used whole cloves, and the cake was so spicy, it was not edible, but she learned not to do that again!
I grew up in the 60s & 70s, with 3 brothers and 5 sisters, in a house, next to our grandparent's farm. We learned to use ingredients we had, and to search the old recipe books for things to make. 5 of the 6 girls, still enjoy making family recipes, in large quantities. I've learned a lot from watching young mother's, about making more than you need, and freezing a meal, for those days you don't want to cook. I also learned, because my husband loves baked good when they are fresh and warm from the oven, to make a triple batch of cookies, and I freeze most of the dough balls, to pull out later to bake fresh, when we want something sweet, late at night, or when our grandkids come to visit. My grandchildren LOVE to help me in the kitchen. It takes so much longer, and there's always a mess, but it delights my heart to see them excited to help me in the kitchen. My 2-year old granddaughter has become quite the kitchen boss! If I try to help her stir something, she moves my hand and announces, "I DO IT!".
You should consider adding a segment of trying very old recipes, like the cakes I mentioned above, that our ancestors lived on. It would be to honor our parents and grandparents, and the wonderful food they managed to make, when they had very little to live on.
thanks so much for sharing!
Seriously, I could watch your vlogs all day.
Another story: When I was single in my 20s, I had a roommate who was an excellent cook. Every so often, she would search out the random ingredients, leftovers, and stuff to be thrown away. She would fling open the fridge and, in her best Monty Python voice, cry, “Bring out yer dead!” We laughed our heads off, and now, 30+ years later in my own home, my husband and sons will exclaim, as I pull things out of the fridge, “Bring out yer dead!” and, “I’m not dead yet!” 😆
Haha!!!
I hate having to clean out my fridge 😅😅
I genuinely enjoyed this video. Please make one of these everytime you clean out your fridge/pantry.
We are also an ingredient family! I am a homemaker and enjoy cooking and creating meals for my family:)
I can't believe you're on your sixth baby boy in a row! Wow. Congrats!
Off course I love your videos. When I make my baguettes I put the pan of boiling water but I spray my entire oven with water . It really makes for a beautiful bread with a crispy outside.
Hi Lisa!I love your videos,So so nice!Wishing you luck honey!We love you!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much!!
Lisa you are a true kitchen Queen. It looks like you can touch an ingredient and it will turn into a meal.🥰
haha...thank you!
The meat thawing pan in the fridge is a game changer. I usually bring five meats in from the freezer and put three in the pan to thaw. Two in the inside freezer. As I use it I replace with a meat from the fridge freezer.
Thank you for sharing. You have given me many ideas. I need more baskets and I need to donate a lot. Enjoy your shows, thanks.
You can do it!
Omg I missed the announcement! Expecting again?
yes, I announced it on a previous video
Lisa, today I learned I'm an ingredient Mom/Grandmother. I always called myself a "pantry cook" because I could make a meal out of whatever was in my pantry when my sons were growing up. Very rarely did we break out a recipe from one of our dozens of cook books-loved to read them and have them around "just in case," and I'm sure they influenced my cooking but I hate shopping for recipe meals. You are glowing in this video--:-) When you get my age, you get to glow with the inner furnace called menopause! LoL. Y'all have a great week on the farm and stay warm!
We're definitely an ingredient family too partially thanks to you! Since we both work outside the home full-time I make things when I have time so we have some prepared food on hand (I make your sourdough waffle recipe all the time and freeze them and I also make homemade granola weekly for quick breakfasts). Our dream is to buy a homestead and for me to be a homemaker, but for now we are in the process of saving for that!
Love that!
Just LOVE these videos where you show how to use things up!! We are all guilty of “finding” things we forgot we had! I hate wasting so these are great videos!!!! Thank you, Lisa!!
I was raised by older parents who lived through the depression. So, when I cook a meal, we eat on it until it is all gone or I freeze it for another meal at another time. We did not eat out much and when I got married 40 years ago, we did not have the money to eat out every week. When we had our two children, we did not eat out because they never ate all their food. I stayed home for 5 years before going back to work and I cooked alot. I enjoy cooking unless I am in the middle of something else and then I do not want to think about cooking a meal, but everyone gets fed at my house no matter what. I would hate to see anyone leave hungry. Your meals looks so delicious!
You are my inspiration and hero for homemaking. You actually put me in the mood to clean and do better cleaning!
I like to make “oyako donburi” when I have a lot of eggs. Also eggs salad and/or deviled eggs
Hello! Thanks for that video! It is a good reminder that we still have so much food even when we think we don’t!… I just wanted to say that milk should not be stored in the fridge door because it is the “hottest” spot in the fridge and it reduces the conservation length. Maybe you could put the sauerkraut in the door instead and put back the milk in the coldest part of the fridge…. Sorry for my English it is not my first language.
My father-in-law, used to call cleaning out of left overs, a must-go dinner. Meaning everything had to be eaten!!
I love cleanout videos. So Interesting. Thanks for another great video. 🙂
Thanks for watching!
Frozen bananas are so good for banana bread!
For the Large drawer in the fridge you can get tension rods from dollar store and make dividers length wise and separate your items that way as well.
I noticed you were writing on the lid. I discovered about 10 years ago that you can use a sharpie to write on glass jars & using Dawn with a scrubber, it comes right off.
I have a little basket like the one you were putting onions in. I use mine for garlic, onions, a few potatoes and avocados when they are not yet ripe. I keep it on my pantry shelf so I can easily grab these ingredients. Made some roasted potatoes last night with a leftover shallot and half an onion I found in the fridge. I love this way of cooking, helps use up what is just sitting around. 😋
Hi Lisa! I would love to see more of this type of video. I recently discovered Jennifer from Three Rivers Homestead and she does a pantry challenge every year. It is fascinating to see how creative one can be with what they have in stock without buying more. Thank you for showing how you've challenged yourself. It has given me lots of great ideas!
You were born to be a mother, and you’re a good one. I wish I knew how to make sour dough.
you can do it! I have all the step by step instructions on my blog. I'll link it for you..www.farmhouseonboone.com/make-sourdough-starter-scratch
that is the starter...once you have that you can make sourdough recipes which I have on my blog too.
I love that the boys are cooking, too 👏👏👏
Wow!! That is amazing how you used what you had
Thank you! 😊
Frozen cherries are really good in a chocolate smoothie - it tastes like red velvet cake.
Love the delay of running to the store - starting out with cleaning the fridge is so motivating. Also, where did you get your dress?
bit.ly/3kQH0r5
If u put your frozen meats in zipper bag and put it in room temperature water large bowl or sink it will defrost in about 2 hrs
I do so enjoy watching your videos. As usual, such wonderful day to day that you do inspires so many of us. Add to that, I could listen to you talk all day. Your voice is almost as soothing and mesmerizing to listen to as you are beautiful. Thanks for taking us along on your journey.
Thank you so much!
Hi Lisa! I really enjoy your channel. When I was in cooking school our chef instructor told us to add ice to the lower heated pan to create a lot of steam quickly. 🙂
You are such an inspiration even to us Nonnas who have an empty nest but makes me want to have a tidy kitchen...bc I still work part time and can use time saving ideas. Someone named you the Kitchen Queen and she was right. We try to run our home as a homestead too...minus the chickens
Pantry challenge was founded by Jessica from Three Rivers Homestead. Perhaps mention her since the challenge came from her? 🤗👍🏼🥰
I try to keep my refrigerator organized because I believe we actually waste less food. One shelf is for our fresh fruits and veggies, another for small dairy like cottage cheese, yogurt, sour cream, etc. one of our drawers is for eggs, lunch meat, bacon and cheese. It is a daily struggle, though.
IM SO EXCITED FOR THE MULTIGRAIN BREAD RECIPE 😍😍😍😍 YAY!!!!! Also your son sounds like my husband lolol the more cheese the better
😂 omg I love it, I laughed so hard, I’m not a tick tacker either , I am definitely going to keep that one. 😉
Love this! We are ready to do a No Spend April and using up items in our freezers, pantry and fridge are used up as much as possible so I can do a deep clean of the kitchen, pantry, 2 fridges and freezers by the end of April and begin fresh for the next year. One of the bulk foods we buy is at potato harvest where we can purchase 50lb bags of potatoes for $10, we clean about 45lbs of potatoes and parboil them, either cube, dice or slice for French fries and then we freeze them on sheet pans and then pack them for 2 people in vacuum seal bags- we can use them for anything requiring potatoes, hash browns, for potatoe soup, fries or just regular mashed potatoes by thawing them out then allowing to drain/fry on a absorbent cotton towel and then cook them per the meal requirement. Menu planning, meal prep and bulk meal freezing has been a staple in our home for almost 30 years of our 40 year marriage because we were and are still full time employees outside the home and like to save $ by doing the menu plan, prep and freeze to stop buying processed foods that are quick to make and to stop the take out habit. Making from scratch is so much better because you can season things to you and your family’s tastes and know it’s so much more nutritional for you! And my kitchen is always cleaned in the evening before bed and ready to go when we wake up.
Awesome homemaking! You are a culinary Wonder Woman! Now, I'm off to dust my kitchen shelves!
I need to be better about planning meals and thawing my meat for the week like you do. It’s such a great idea!
hey girl- loved the video😀 enjoyed seeing your cleanout. Yummy food! Y'all have a great weekend🥰
We are an Ingredient Family too.👏🏻 I do like to have chicken nuggets on hand for busy, homeschool mornings, and for a quick lunch.🥰
That was so fun to watch!
Some great ideas! I’m taking this challenge up.
My big downfall is usually running out of milk. We drink a lot of it so when I need to get more in I usually just end up restocking anyway. Time for a family cow!
Thanks so much for this! Your vlogs are so calming and I learn so much.
Have you tried savory oatmeal? Some people are completely turned off to the idea because they think oatmeal = sweet. However, as someone who has more of a savory than sweet palate preference, I like it...switches things up a bit. For instance, oatmeal cooked with spinach and herbs, and then throw a fried egg on top. :)
Not yet!
Loved watching this video. I don't know why but I love watching people organize their kitchen.. It's relaxing but also gives me ideas for my own kitchen. The multigrain bread sounds amazing. Can't wait to see that post...I'm planning to try and make your sandwich bread this weekend. We shall see how it turns out. Have a great day
I do this about once every three months. It is amazing the meals you can come up with. I also want to say I love how you let the kids help in the kitchen. Such valuable memories you are creating.
lol shout out from Ireland , I just saw you have a shelf load of Kerrygold butter in your fridge shelf.
It's so good!
Another great video Lisa, the multigrain bread looks so soft and with the Kerrygold butter, I would imagine it was delicious.?Being Irish Kerrygold is in my opinion, the best butter in the world. Have a lovely weekend 😊
We are getting closer and closer to being an ingredient family. It is so much better!
I just did a good clean out of my small double door fridge…and I like to also take frozen food to defrost..but I normally try to make a meal last another day.,maybe serving it differently 🥘
LOVED the use it up video!
thank you!
Enjoyed so much.
Take care.😊
This is beyond helpful. So many great ideas and motivation. My kids love it when I fry leftover rice with eggs and eat it with wraps and cheese.
Can’t wait to try this multigrain sourdough bread!!
www.farmhouseonboone.com/soft-multigrain-sourdough-bread
Love your dress!
Thank you!!
Watching you tear into the roast & chicken had me drooling!
Oh sausage and sauerkraut and apples sounds so good
The blessings of the Lord 🙏👑✝💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
Whew I got nervous when I saw the babe walking toward you pouring boiling water in a 500 degree oven 😬😅
I don’t know how you do all that you do, very impressive and inspiring
Looks like he has learned to stop when the oven is hot!
Lisa, great meals. Loved this video. Ty.
I'm obsessed with kefir with frozen cherries, kefir and stevia, so good
I have the same ref. Did the same thing
We have almost no convenience stuff. I love it... until sickness hits then Im like "why didn't I buy some nuggets or Mac n cheese!?" Ha. Generally though, no regrets for not keeping package food in the house ☺️
Hey Lisa! I’ve noticed you have been using tap water instead of the berkey. Did you get a new water filtering system? If so, I’d love to hear about it!
No, my Berkey is in my pantry....we have well water that has been tested and my sourdough does great with it however many people with a city water source report trouble with their starter...often its because the water has bleaching agents that inhibit the growth of the good bacteria needed
Great video! I have to make your sausage, sourkraut & apple dinner! The baguetts look wonderful. My next sourdough item to try!
I have always read you shouldn't keep whole, unpeeled potatoes, onions and garlic in the fridge. I keep them in 3 stacking baskets (onions on top so they don't make my yellow and sweet potatoes go bad) in my pantry or cool, dim or dark room, but not a fridge.
By not adding to your supply in not bothering with this week's grocery shopping, is a good way to begin cleaning out the food stores in your home and using up items that remain in plentiful supply. I love having an inter-shelf space that is high enough to put a pot of stew on for reheating later, but not so much later that it should really be repackaged and frozen. What proportion of white vinegar to water do you use for cleaning in the kitchen? I'm not on Tik-Tok, but from what you said it seems we are an ingredient family. We make classic dishes and we make up stuff and we alter recipes from others. And we eat some basic, simple things that we like that way. The corn tortillas with eggs & a lot of veggies mixed in is a great way to get veg into kids.
one cup of vinegar to one cup of water aprox.....
How lucky your husband is to have found you !💓 I was an assistant chef & house husband for 8 years ! Cooking, cleaning, gardening, putting laundry on the line. Although I am now a widower a few years ago 9/11, my wife died in accident. Although I still grieve, I wouldn't hesitate to marry a woman like you in a heartbeat ! 🥰☝️🤗
Good luck finding a woman like Lisa! I know they are out there, but few and far between.
@@cynthiafisher9907
I guess I'm a dreamer and I'll keep the dream alive for some time before I get too old. 🫠
@@SweetChicagoGator Im sorry you lost your wife, that must have been very difficult.
@@cynthiafisher9907
Still difficult being a widower. Life is both Joy & Pain. Yet, what can we do but carry on. Thx for carimg ! 🫠
I live what you e done to the kitchen. Did I miss the announcement?
I made it on a previous video...
Oh my God WOMEN. My Mother used to do the same thing about 1x a week just before shopping, I am not complaining some of the food came out the BEST concoctions, tasty too!
You reminded me to go thru my freezer, challenge accepted 😊
Love your videos!
I make a bacon-apple-onion fry-up. It's great! Give it a try. I like the sound of sausage-apples-sauerkraut fry-up too!
This is inspiring me to clean out my fridge and pantry 😅 Thank you so much for always inspiring and educating me 🥰❤️🙏🏼
Yum!
I want to buy a birch mattress soo bad lol maybe when I get a house lol 😊
Everything looks delicious!
Loved this pantry clean out
Thank you 😊
I want to know where you got that beautiful dress!!

We had a hard time using up things. So I cleaned it all out recently and tried making as many meals with them as I could with the things that were still good. We do mealplan so I only buy things I know we are going to use. if something is on sale and it keeps a while I'll buy it but after putting it away at home immediately write down a meal we can make with it. I used to simple have a list of things in stock but kept forgetting to look at that so that didn't work for us. The system now really keeps grocery shopping and budget under control, and we don't waste as much as we used to. You can say that is my Nwe Years resolution this year, keeping on top of what we have and use it hahaha.
Here many people put apple in their cooked sauerkraut. And some even add banana. We never did that though. Growing up it was cooked sauerkraut with cooked potatoes, smoked sausage and bacon bits. Or my mom would make an casserole with mashed potatoes, browned sausage meat and onions, sauerkraut and bacon bits. Now sometime I make an oven dish for myself that adds roased peppers and pineapple to the sauerkraut. I am trying to make sauerkraut myself for the first time. My last attempt failed as the cabbage got above the water so it molded. Bought some fermenting weights (and a challenge to try and find wide mouth jars that fit the weights) and made a new batch yesterday. Fingers crossed it will work this time. As a kid I loved raw sauerkraut, but nobody at it raw here so people found that really strange.
I really have a hard time to get my daughter to drink smoothies. She loves the idea, loves making them but takes just one sip and refuses to drink the whole glass. I think it's a texture thing. For my husband I often make a banana coffee smoothie so I do get through the frozen bananas that way. As well as the instant coffee we bought for a trip.
@tamara4557 if it IS a textural issue perhaps letting her try eating the smoothie she produced would work. Pour out the smoothie into a glass, let her drink what she will then give her a spoon to try continuing to finish it. This could be tasty, especially if the mixture is on the thick side.
I also put the smoothie in a popsicle container and suddenly my one kid who hates smoothies will eat it in popsicle form 🤷🏽♀️
Great video Lisa, i am going through the same sort of cleaning right now. I was told not to keep potatoes and onions in a fridge.
I was wondering too.
i only put mine in frig once cut
I was taught not to store onions or potato in the frig. So I looked it up to see if that had changed. The suggestion was to place them in a cool dry place like a pantry. They will last longer.
Great video Lisa. I love cooking apples in kraut and some sort of pork. It just goes so good together. 🇨🇦🌷
Yes it does!
Everything looks so delicious!! I live by myself and I try to use up everything before I go to the store. It’s a good time to clean the fridge too!!
Your baguettes look great!
We like frozen cherries in oatmeal or in banana "nice cream" (blended frozen bananas and other frozen fruit if desired)
I keep Potatoes onions and garlic in the pantry they don't need to be in the refrigerator
Lisa, I’d love a link to your dress!
bit.ly/3kQH0r5
Curious to know if you make your own baby food or if that's something you purchase? I don't have any baby's (my youngest is 13 haha) but I'd love to see how you make and store it, if you in fact make it.
I did the same with my ref. drawer. Got rid of the divider etc. It gave me the same problem as you.
use plastic shoebox containers if they fit
