This is pure greed, stupidity and false hope to long term wealth.. This is a great logical, well informed video on what to expect when trying to sell in the future. Keep up the great content 😊
This. This is not a hot take at all. Parents do not want to shill out hundreds for a product that sells at half or three time less its retail value. Pokemon is for everyone, children do not have enough money for the tcg if they want to be serious about it. If you are not a consumer, you are actively stealing products away from people who actually want them.
I wish I had this foresight as a kid. For whatever reason, I bought 33 Team Rocket packs for $100 off of Ebay and put them away sealed as a kid before I stopped collecting. Despite my entire collection being sold by my dad and 12+ moves as a kid these packs stayed with me and I found them again during the pandemic lockdown. I sold most of them from anywhere between $180 and $375. I doubt any current sets will ever reach that price but something even doubling 4 times in 20 years will beat the average stock market return. So a $3 pack today being worth $48 in 20 years will be a great return even with fees and shipping costs.
@ Absolutely. And I think most who are buying it up in hoards are going to try to flip it, and they are paying retail which is taxed, then you have to likely pay fees, shipping, materials when you sell, then taxed again on your gains on your income tax, and pay interest on it if you can’t move it. Just seems like a lot of work for all those tins and collection boxes. I hold booster boxes and PC ETBs only as a hobby investment, but any gains I have just go right back into the hobby, and I’ve written it off as fun money. Most of my wealth is through traditional investments, real estate and farm land rentals I bought on fire sale during the 2008-2009 recession.

I saw a video of adults fighting over them at Costco. It is so disheartening to watch and see this. take them and hand them out to sick kids at the hospital. Child life is always accepting donations to give out to kids that are in the middle of cancer Treatments or other life altering sickness. It was one of the few things my son got to look forward to when we had to stay in the hospital. (he is 5 years out and doing well). seeing how much some of these cards go for ya it would be nice to have that money now but the memories playing with friends is not something i would want to trade in for some bills payed off now.
