I love how when they transition from color to B&W, he is immediately in a tux, and it takes her awhile to morph into the gown. I think it means that she's taking a little time to adapt to the idea of being with him. Wonderful artistic choice!

I love using "little girl" as a compliment for her and an insult to himself. Its shows the unconscious process behind that kind of "compliment" in a really smooth and smart way.

Possible influences for this song:
1. The melody line from 0:00 to 0:14 is strikingly similar to the refrain from "A Foggy Day" (1937) by Gershwin & Gershwin.
2. The melody line from 0:30 to 0:42 reminds me of "Mean To Me" (1929) by Ahlert & Turk.
3. Obviously, the dancing & clothing style is a direct tribute to Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers, as well as other performers from the Great American Songbook era.
4. The lyrics, which humorously acknowledge the possibility of imperfect relationships, call to mind "A Fine Romance" (1936 by Kern & Fields) and "Let's Call The Whole Thing Off" (1937 by Gershwin & Gershwin) and "Until the Real Thing Comes Along" (1936 by Cahn and others) as well as the verse from "I've Got A Crush On You" (1928 by Gershwin & Gershwin) (I'm referring to the part that goes "How glad the many millions...")

I have too many album recommendations to list them here... But if you only listen to ONE, I recommend "Ella Sings Gershwin" (1950), which features - you guessed it - Ella Fitzgerald singing the music of the Gershwins, in intimate piano + vocal style.
Interesting thing I picked up, obviously this song is a tribute to Astaire and Rogers, but Rogers was actually a far more skilled dancer than Astaire.
She had to perform the entire routine, backwards in heels, while he may have been ‘leading’ the dance, she was leading the show. That makes perfect sense when you consider that in this song it’s Rachel who has to pick whether she wants to pursue Josh or Greg

I love this using fred astair and Ginger Rodgers for this number was so smart because they were so elegant together and watching these two make mistakes in a beautiful number shows that they are trying to be elegant but will fall short not to mention the whole "baby cakes" and "sugar juggs" wording was also cool since back into the old times those qords would be used with no problem and last but not least the dip the smartest hint of all was that dip because one thing you should know if you don't already is that Ginger was such a good dancer she was able to lead dancing backwards in high heels and in this dance there are times where you think Fred is leading her when in actuality sometimes she was leading him and that dip proved that fact excellently thank you Cxg for one of the most thoughtful numbers of all time
