  • Installing a new tailpiece to try out on the Stone Banjo. It’s a Pisgah Hawk Tail or Tail Hawk (can’t remember the name, LOL). Did you hear a difference? NOT a sponsored item at all, I purchased this directly from Pisgah.

    I think the individual notes are more distinctive with the new tailpiece. Healilly also makes a tailpiece that is adjustable. Saga uses them.

    If you like the Pisgah HawkTail Tailpiece, you might want to try their 3d printed Pisgah Eclipse Moon Bridge. I found that the combination of the too was amazing. Really improved the sound of my banjos so much. The extra pressure on the bridge seems to transfer more vibrations to the head, increasing volume, At the same time the increased pressure seems to increase clarity as well. A win win. And the with their Eclipse Bridge, really good intonation, and more volume and clarity. So they are a great combo for overall sound improvement.

    Thats a beautiful banjo, and the tunnelled 5th string is a great British idea 😊. Great content as usual Mandy,
    Merry Christmas & God bless you from across the pond.🙏🤗

    I had the standard no knot tailpiece on my Gold Tone and switched it to their "vintage style", which looks similar to the Pisgah Hawk Tail, because I like that look. I ended up switching it back to the no knot because I liked the sound better. Funny thing. Yours sounds a little more crisp with the Hawk Tail, to me.

      Yeah it’s funny how that works. All those different things make up the sound and what sounds good with one may not on another. Haha

    Rather than pressing down more, the new tailpiece shortens the distance from the tailpiece to the bridge which changes the angle of the strings behind the bridge.

    great video Mandy. I am picking up my Stone banjo this weekend! i have a no knot tail piece and a fiberskyn head, hope its not too quiet. if so i guess my options are a bridge change, hawk tail piece and maybe a head change? i recently tried a goat skin head on a wood tone ring banjo and it was sooooo quiet! i am used to my Vega with the Dobson ring so it was a major difference lol

      I wouldn’t worry about it one bit. It won’t be too quiet. I personally prefer the quieter tones. I’d play it for awhile before making any changes. But strings, bridge, and head are the major things for the sound. Blessings, and enjoy your new Stone!!

      I think it looks cool for sure, so I’m leaving it. But in person I do think I hear a less cloudy tone.

      If you can hear the difference through an mp3 and youtube compression, it must be a big difference in person!

    Can one use the hwak tailpiece with nylon strings?

    • @BanjoLemonade
      @BanjoLemonade  11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      maybe, not positive. You’d have to tie it and there’s not much real estate to tie on with.

    What changes have you made since it was built, Jane you settled on a bridge

    • @BanjoLemonade
      @BanjoLemonade  ปีที่แล้ว

      Changes I’ve made, lowered the action. I like super low action. I’ve switched out 10 or so bridges and find they make very little difference but currently I’m running the moon bridge. I’ve added that tailpiece, very slight difference, but I like it. That is it. I absolutely love this banjo and will never sell it.

    Is it important to loosen the strings before adjusting the tail piece
