Should You Want to Live Forever?

Most people think it would be good to live forever. After all, even though it's unclear if heaven exists, lots of people hope it exists. But some philosophers aren't so sure immortality would be a good idea. In this video, I discuss an argument from Bernard Williams and how it connects to The Good Place.

I wouldn't want to live forever, even in heaven. At some point I'd just go insane. Everything would be boring. Perhaps I'd lose my sense of morality and hurt people. Either way, I'd prefer to disappear after awhile. Also, if I didn't go to some after life and stayed on earth, soon the earth would get eaten by the sun. I wouldn't exactly want to be stuck in space, and in the burning hot sun for millions or billions of years before that.

That's reasonable! Forever is a really long time.
