Agreed, but at lest some of the other viaducts from the DL&W are still being used. Next time I am up in Pennsylvania I hope to take a look at the Tunkhannock Creek Viaduct.

The viaduct is abandoned for now, but rail service will likely be restored at some point in the future. And it's still property of the State of New Jersey.

From what I understand New Jersey have approved funding to restore the line as far as Andover, and there are tentative plans to restore the entire line. There is also talk about Amtrak establishing a rout from NYC to Scranton which would use this rout.

I appreciate your optimism and I hope you are right. But I don't think restoration of the Lackawanna Cutoff will happen anytime soon. It is like herding cats. Trying to get the federal and state politicians including NJ and PA to come to a funding consensus will be very difficult. In addition, the years of neglect have taken their toll where the Delaware River Viaduct alone will be very costly to restore. Also, the right of way accommodates a two track system and having double track is the best for solving congestion problems in the future to allow needed freight tax revenue. But once again this will be trying to herd cats. I am 64 and I remember as a kid when the Cutoff was vibrant. Why the state of New Jersey allowed it to be abandoned and dormant in 1981 is beyond comprehension. But all you have to do is go to High Point State Park and see the neglect of maintaining the monument and the destruction of the Kuyser Mansion and realize this incompetent management of assets in New Jersey has been systemic for decades. Sorry for the pessimism but this is an honest reflection.

"Art" is a crime if you're defacing someones else's property!! If it's your property, then have at it, but if it's someone else's property it's wrong. Just like all the rail cars. I would LOVE to catch people defacing rail cars, then follow them home, and start spray painting their automobiles all in the name of "art". They would have a whole different attitude then!!

This make sense, although the other side of it is that the owner needs to maintain their property so it doesn't become an eyesore or worse unsafe.
