One of the most interesting & ingenious implementations of a chat mascot I've seen is with GEEGA, who has her viewers pick between one of 3 factions (creatures, mosters & undead) who compete to earn points through various community activites such as participating in events, making fanart, being funny™, etc.
It genuinely checks off so many boxes it's insane! Recognizable color scheme, unusual yet iconic irl animal, easy to draw, easy to plushify, easy to customize... I agree, it has so many great qualities!
@@Deviciara I'm so happy to hear that Devi, thank you!! The mascot aspect will give you a lot of flexibility; I wish you the absolute best with your pet design! 💙
Luckily i already have a mascot design (born from a quick drawing i made years ago in school, because german class was boring af) and i was surprised when Koseki Bijou came up with the idea of opening them up for the community to take their own personalized spin on them, because that was something ive planned to do too. ;D (A little long-term dream would be to set up a site where people can create their own mascot versions and upload new assets for others to use. I think that opens up many cool possibilities to bring the community together. :) ) That said... i also want to encourage people to also take a look at mascots that dont go so hard for the "baby-scheme". Like for example Appa from The Last Airbender, Totoro from Studio Ghibli or something like Kurama from Naruto might count too. Of course the very cute mascots are easier to turn into merchandise, but the possibilities for recognizable mascots are much bigger than just those. Also because it becomes increasingly hard to create simple designs that are not already used. Even among big VTubers we already have multi-uses, like the shrimps of Gura but also Shylily (which utilizes and incudes them imo much better into their streams and identity).
Funny enough I've had something similar to Koseki Bijou even earlier, the idea of customizable mascots is something I've developed for months and am still fine-tuning haha (hinted in that little "Stargazers" sheet in the video). I agree mascots can definitely come in all bigger shapes and sizes! Smaller mascots really are best for merch and easier community works though, (and on stream it's hard to fit bigger sizes accurately) but that's not to say you can't have something Charizard-sized while other people have Pikachu. At the end of the video you'll see I have a more detailed dragon mascot I did for someone as well c: (come to think of it, Momo in ATLA might've been added as a size counterpart to Appa, and possibly the different sized Totoros as well, but that's just a guess).
it was dumb of me to create a mascot first and then watch the videos later. oh well, having a simplyfied me and a more complicated mascot is also a nice pair. xD
@@Absbor Haha, if it makes you feel any better, this video is a reflection of my own learning and I did the same! Even though my personal mascot is in this video, she's actually since been redesigned a bit simpler and more 'mascot-like' But I've also done more complex mascots for people like that dragon you see at the end. There's nothing wrong if you find having something that looks more like a legendary Pokémon works with your lore and brand c: 💙

Compete to earn points? Oh dang I'll definitely have to look into that! Sounds like similar to the Art RPG I was trying to figure out earlier ^^:
the takodachi is probably the best vtuber mascot in its simplicity and ease of merch using it

Such an insightful video! I been wanting to design my own mascot but always had trouble approaching it

@@StarlightAkari thank you for the comment :-)
Hmmm... maybe I need a mascot. >.>
Would be fun to see what that would look like X3
